    Accelerating supply chains with Ant Colony Optimization across range of hardware solutions

Although, useful for benchmarks and new idea comparison, the algorithmic dynamics does not always transfer to complex real-life problems, where additional meta-data is required during solution construction. This paper looks at real-life outbound supply chain problem using Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and its scaling dynamics with two parallel ACO architectures - Independent Ant Colonies (IAC) and Parallel Ants (PA). Results showed that PA was able to reach a higher solution quality in fewer iterations as the number of parallel instances increased. Furthermore, speed performance was measured across three different hardware solutions - 16 core CPU, 68 core Xeon Phi and up to 4 Geforce GPUs. State of the art, ACO vectorization techniques such as SS-Roulette were implemented using C++ and CUDA. Although excellent for TSP, it was concluded that for the given supply chain problem GPUs are not suitable due to meta-data access footprint required. Furthermore, compared to their sequential counterpart, vectorized CPU AVX2 implementation achieved 25.4x speedup on CPU while Xeon Phi with its AVX512 instruction set reached 148x on PA with Vectorized (PAwV). PAwV is therefore able to scale at least up to 1024 parallel instances on the supply chain network problem solved

    An economic development model analyzes the adoption of alternative strategy capable of leveraging the economy, based essentially on RES. The combination of wind turbine, PV installation with new technology battery energy storage, DSM network and RES forecasting algorithms maximizes RES integration in isolated islands. An innovative model of power system (PS) imbalances is presented, which aims to capture various features of the stochastic behavior of imbalances and to reduce in average reserve requirements and PS risk. Deep learning techniques for medium-term wind speed and solar irradiance forecasting are presented, using for first time a specific cloud index. Scalability-replicability of the FLEXITRANSTORE technology innovations integrates hardware-software solutions in all areas of the transmission system and the wholesale markets, promoting increased RES. A deep learning and GIS approach are combined for the optimal positioning of wave energy converters. An innovative methodology to hybridize battery-based energy storage using supercapacitors for smoother power profile, a new control scheme and battery degradation mechanism and their economic viability are presented. An innovative module-level photovoltaic (PV) architecture in parallel configuration is introduced maximizing power extraction under partial shading. A new method for detecting demagnetization faults in axial flux permanent magnet synchronous wind generators is presented.     This chapter 10 carried out the exceptional implementation of ART-1 neural network in the analysis of the manufacturing similarity of the cylindrical parts within the group technology design. Established concept of the group technology design begins from the complex part of the group or the group representative. Group representative has all the geometrical elements of the parts in group, and manufacturing procedure may be applied to the machining of any part in the group. The complex part may be realistic or a hypothetical one. The ART-1 artificial neural network provided manufacturing classification according to the geometrical similarities of work-pieces for the group of cylindrical parts. For the manufacturing similarity identification within the group technology design, software package "ART Simulator" is developed and presented in this chapter
