General guidelines for designing bilingual low cost digital library services suitable for special library users in developing countries and the Arabic speaking world

The World is witnessing a considerable transformation from print based-formats to elec-tronic-based formats thanks to advanced computing technology, which has a profound impact on the dissemination of nearly all previous formats of publications into digital formats on computer networks. Text, still and moving images, sound tracks, music, and almost all known formats can be stored and retrieved on computer magnetic disk. Over the last two decades, a number of special libraries and information centres in the Arab world have introduced electronic resources into their library services. Very few have implemented automated and integrated systems. Despite the im-portance of designing digital libraries not merely for accessing to or retrieval of information but rather for the provision of electronic services, hardly any special library has started the design of digital library services. Managers of special libraries and information centres in developing countries in general and in the Arab world in particular should start building their local digital libraries, as the benefit of establishing such electronic services is considerably massive and well known for expansion of re-search activities and for delivering services that satisfy the needs of targeted end-users. The aim of this paper is to provide general guideline for design of special low cost digital library providing ser-vices that are most frequently required by various categories of special library users in developing countries. This paper also aims at illustrating strategies and method approaches that can be adopted for building such projects. Seeing the importance of designing an inexpensive digital li-brary as basic principle for the design accordingly, the utilisation of today's ICTs and freely avail-able open sources software is the right path for accomplishing such goal. The paper intends to de-scribe the phases and stages required for building such projects from scratch. It also aims at high-lighting the barriers and obstacles facing Arabic content and how could such problems overcome

Designing for Meaningfulness in Life: creating new meaning in products and services to enhance psychological meaningfulness

In a world of breathtaking material affluence with ever-increasing diversity of values and options in life, people easily lose meaning in life and pursue meaningfulness stemmed from more psychological desires such as purpose, transcendence and spiritual fulfillment. This paper aims at investigating into the approach of designing new meaning in product and service which enhance psychological meaningfulness in life. As theoretical bases for empirical study, this paper reviewed two theoretical realms: a) meaningfulness in life from positive psychology as an ideal psychological state, b) design-driven innovation which strategically makes new meaning in product or service. In empirical part, the semi-structured interviews were conducted with six design experts to investigate how designers create new meaning in product or service for meaningfulness in an end-user’s life. The finding suggests that designing meaningfulness is not as straightforward as design-driven innovation which deepens internal vision in future (inside-out) and unlike design thinking model which emphasizes on empathetic understanding of users (outside-in). It’s a hybrid approach of outside-in approach exploring the existing meaning in an end-user’s life and inside-out approach envisioning the possible future life scenario and meaningful experience in the envisioned context. The literature review revealed six core elements of meaningfulness constituted of purpose, value, significance, engagement, narrativity and connectivity. The finding implies the possibility of enhancing meaningfulness in end-users’ life if core elements of meaningfulness are used in conceptualizing ideal meaningful experience in future. It was also found that designing new meaning in product or service requires the behavioral change of end-users toward the envisioned ideal state. To drive a change, the behavioral science could be utilized to inspire the short-term motivation, and it needs to be balanced with the true meaning to the end-user in the long-run

Strategic management and demarketing in UNESCO WHSs: a comparative analysis of two Croatian tourist destinations

This paper studies the protected cultural property strategic management conducted by UNESCO, the World Heritage Sites (WHS). Its purpose is to explore the measure to which the system of such cultural property management is developed, since its meaning goes beyond the touristic purpose and indicates the world’s cultural property. Two Croatian tourist destinations are examined – Dubrovnik and Poreč. At the end of the paper, a comparative analysis of the two investigated cases is presented with the aim of presenting the research results and designing a personal model and conceptual frame of action to create a more efficient management system for protected heritage at all levels

Evaluating possible innovative and sustainable approach of mosque in contemporary world

Mosque is one of the major establishment within a Muslim community in countries with Muslim majority as well as countries where Muslims are minority. It is almost inevitable that every Muslim community would have at least one mosque within the locality. For most of the cases in Muslim major countries, there are more than one mosque to be found in any locality. These carries the sign of different ideologies and isms of architecture according to their contextual variance. In contemporary world, where environmental issues are given high priority, identifying sustainable approach for designing mosques are strongly recommended. This paper aims to analyze the principles of Islamic teachings toward attaining a balanced built environment and its implication on developing a sustainable language for mosque architecture in contemporary world. It analyzes the indigenous characteristics of the Prophet's (pbuh) mosque and draws lessons from therein. It also presents discussion on the contemporary Polder Mosque in Netherlands and its innovative sustainable features. Recommendations are made consequently regarding sustainable approach of mosque design in the contemporary world at the end of this paper

Computational model for neural architecture search

A long-standing goal in Deep Learning (DL) research is to design efficient architectures for a given dataset that are both accurate and computationally inexpensive. At present, designing deep learning architectures for a real-world application requires both human expertise and considerable effort as they are either handcrafted by careful experimentation or modified from a handful of existing models. This method is inefficient as the process of architecture design is highly time-consuming and computationally expensive. The research presents an approach to automate the process of deep learning architecture design through a modeling procedure. In particular, it first introduces a framework that treats the deep learning architecture design problem as a systems architecting problem. The framework provides the ability to utilize novel and intuitive search spaces to find efficient architectures using evolutionary methodologies. Secondly, it uses a parameter sharing approach to speed up the search process and explores its limitations with search space. Lastly, it introduces a multi-objective approach to facilitate architecture design based on hardware constraints that are often associated with real-world deployment. From the modeling perspective, instead of designing and staging explicit algorithms to process images/sentences, the contribution lies in the design of hybrid architectures that use the deep learning literature developed so far. This approach enjoys the benefit of a single problem formulation to perform end-to-end training and architecture design with limited computational resources --Abstract, page iii

Is Virtual Marriage Acceptable? A Psychological Study Investigating The Role of Ambiguity Tolerance and Intimacy Illusion in Online Dating among Adolescents and Early Adults

Marriage is one of the most important topics in the education field since life in this world is structured by interaction among families and between families and other social institutions. Dissatisfaction and unsustainability of marriage have led the urgency of premarital education in various countries. The problem is that the spread of virtual reality has made marriage itself to become more complex and experience reinterpretation and reconfiguration, moreover with the emergence of new kind of marriage in the digital era, i.e. virtual marriage. Everybody who has observed, known, or even tried, certainly asks the question, “Could (or: should) I accept virtual marriage?” . This study was aimed to investigate the role of tolerance of ambiguity and illusion of intimacy in online dating in predicting the acceptance of virtual marriage. There were 420 adolescents and young adults (212 males, 208 females; Mage=21.10 years old, SDage=1.459 years; 338 students, 82 employees or entrepreneurs) in the Greater Jakarta, Indonesia, participated in this study. It was found that the acceptance was not predicted by the ambiguity tolerance, but by the illusion of intimacy in online dating. The psychometric issues, substantive discussion, and recommendation are presented at the end of this article. The trend of virtual marriage should not be allowed to roll away, by autopilot, without loaded by strategies in designing an online game as one of the pivotal educational technologies that needs to shape appropriate character and attitude for it
