Transparency in Port-Hamiltonian-Based Telemanipulation
After stability, transparency is the major issue in the design of a telemanipulation system. In this paper, we exploit the behavioral approach in order to provide an index for the evaluation of transparency in port-Hamiltonian-based teleoperators. Furthermore, we provide a transparency analysis of packet switching scattering-based communication channels
Robust H8 design for resonant control in a CVCF inverter application over load uncertainties
CVCF (constant voltage, constant frequency) inverters are electronic devices used to supply AC loads from DC storage elements such as batteries or photovoltaic cells. These devices are used to feed different kinds of loads; this uncertainty requires that the controller fulfills robust stability conditions while keeping required performance. To address this, a robust H8 design is proposed based on resonant control to track a pure sinusoidal voltage signal and to reject the most common harmonic signals in a wide range of loads. The design is based on the definition of performance bounds in error signal and weighting functions for covering most uncertainty ranges in loads. Experimentally, the H8 controller achieves high-quality output voltage signal with a total harmonic distortion less than 2%Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
On the Design of LQR Kernels for Efficient Controller Learning
Finding optimal feedback controllers for nonlinear dynamic systems from data
is hard. Recently, Bayesian optimization (BO) has been proposed as a powerful
framework for direct controller tuning from experimental trials. For selecting
the next query point and finding the global optimum, BO relies on a
probabilistic description of the latent objective function, typically a
Gaussian process (GP). As is shown herein, GPs with a common kernel choice can,
however, lead to poor learning outcomes on standard quadratic control problems.
For a first-order system, we construct two kernels that specifically leverage
the structure of the well-known Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR), yet retain
the flexibility of Bayesian nonparametric learning. Simulations of uncertain
linear and nonlinear systems demonstrate that the LQR kernels yield superior
learning performance.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, to appear in 56th IEEE Conference on Decision and

A power consensus algorithm for DC microgrids
A novel power consensus algorithm for DC microgrids is proposed and analyzed.
DC microgrids are networks composed of DC sources, loads, and interconnecting
lines. They are represented by differential-algebraic equations connected over
an undirected weighted graph that models the electrical circuit. A second graph
represents the communication network over which the source nodes exchange
information about the instantaneous powers, which is used to adjust the
injected current accordingly. This give rise to a nonlinear consensus-like
system of differential-algebraic equations that is analyzed via Lyapunov
functions inspired by the physics of the system. We establish convergence to
the set of equilibria consisting of weighted consensus power vectors as well as
preservation of the weighted geometric mean of the source voltages. The results
apply to networks with constant impedance, constant current and constant power
loads.Comment: Abridged version submitted to the 20th IFAC World Congress, Toulouse,

Comparison of different repetitive control architectures: synthesis and comparison. Application to VSI Converters
Repetitive control is one of the most used control approaches to deal with periodic references/disturbances. It owes its properties to the inclusion of an internal model in the controller that corresponds to a periodic signal generator. However, there exist many different ways to include this internal model. This work presents a description of the different schemes by means of which repetitive control can be implemented. A complete analytic analysis and comparison is performed together with controller synthesis guidance. The voltage source inverter controller experimental results are included to illustrative conceptual developmentsPeer ReviewedPostprint (published version
