African vulture optimizer algorithm based vector control induction motor drive system
This study describes a new optimization approach for three-phase induction motor speed drive to minimize the integral square error for speed controller and improve the dynamic speed performance. The new proposed algorithm, African vulture optimizer algorithm (AVOA) optimizes internal controller parameters of a fuzzy like proportional differential (PD) speed controller. The AVOA is notable for its ease of implementation, minimal number of design parameters, high convergence speed, and low computing burden. This study compares fuzzy-like PD speed controllers optimized with AVOA to adaptive fuzzy logic speed regulators, fuzzy-like PD optimized with genetic algorithm (GA), and proportional integral (PI) speed regulators optimized with AVOA to provide speed control for an induction motor drive system. The drive system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and laboratory prototype is implemented using DSP-DS1104 board. The results demonstrate that the suggested fuzzy-like PD speed controller optimized with AVOA, with a speed steady state error performance of 0.5% compared to the adaptive fuzzy logic speed regulator’s 0.7%, is the optimum alternative for speed controller. The results clarify the effectiveness of the controllers based on fuzzy like PD speed controller optimized with AVOA for each performance index as it provides lower overshoot, lowers rising time, and high dynamic response

Intelligent Active Vibration Control for a Flexible Beam System
YesThis paper presents an investigation into the
development of an intelligent active vibration control
(AVC) system. Evolutionary Genetic algorithms (GAs)
and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference system (ANFIS)
algorithms are used to develop mechanisms of an AVC
system, where the controller is designed on the basis of
optimal vibration suppression using the plant model. A
simulation platform of a flexible beam system in
transverse vibration using finite difference (FD) method
is considered to demonstrate the capabilities of the AVC
system using GAs and ANFIS. MATLAB GA tool box for
GAs and Fuzzy Logic tool box for ANFIS function are
used for AVC system design. The system is then
implemented, tested and its performance assessed for GAs
and ANFIS based design. Finally a comparative
performance of the algorithm in implementing AVC
system using GAs and ANFIS is presented and discussed
through a set of experiments
Adaptive interval type-2 fuzzy logic controller for autonomous mobile robot
A Type-2 Fuzzy logic controller adapted with genetic algorithm, called type-2 genetic fuzzy logic controller (T2GFLC), is presented in this paper to handle uncertainty with dynamic optimal learning. Genetic algorithm is employed to simultaneous design of type-2 membership functions and rule sets for type-2 fuzzy logic controllers. Traditional fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs), often termed as type-1 fuzzy logic systems using type-1 fuzzy sets, cannot handle large amount of uncertainties present in many real environments. Therefore, recently type-2 FLC has been proposed. The type-2 FLC can be considered as a collection of different embedded type-1 FLCs. However, the current design process of type-2 FLC is not automatic and relies on human experts. The purpose of our study is to make the design process automatic. Moreover, to reduce the computation time of T2GFLC an efficient type-reduction strategy for interval type-2 fuzzy set is also introduced. The evolved type-2 FLCs can deal with large amount of uncertainties and exhibit better performance for the mobile robot. Furthermore, it has outperformed their type-1 counterparts as well as the adaptive type-1 FLCs
Assembly and Disassembly Planning by using Fuzzy Logic & Genetic Algorithms
The authors propose the implementation of hybrid Fuzzy Logic-Genetic
Algorithm (FL-GA) methodology to plan the automatic assembly and disassembly
sequence of products. The GA-Fuzzy Logic approach is implemented onto two
levels. The first level of hybridization consists of the development of a Fuzzy
controller for the parameters of an assembly or disassembly planner based on
GAs. This controller acts on mutation probability and crossover rate in order
to adapt their values dynamically while the algorithm runs. The second level
consists of the identification of theoptimal assembly or disassembly sequence
by a Fuzzy function, in order to obtain a closer control of the technological
knowledge of the assembly/disassembly process. Two case studies were analyzed
in order to test the efficiency of the Fuzzy-GA methodologies
A Review on Energy Consumption Optimization Techniques in IoT Based Smart Building Environments
In recent years, due to the unnecessary wastage of electrical energy in
residential buildings, the requirement of energy optimization and user comfort
has gained vital importance. In the literature, various techniques have been
proposed addressing the energy optimization problem. The goal of each technique
was to maintain a balance between user comfort and energy requirements such
that the user can achieve the desired comfort level with the minimum amount of
energy consumption. Researchers have addressed the issue with the help of
different optimization algorithms and variations in the parameters to reduce
energy consumption. To the best of our knowledge, this problem is not solved
yet due to its challenging nature. The gap in the literature is due to the
advancements in the technology and drawbacks of the optimization algorithms and
the introduction of different new optimization algorithms. Further, many newly
proposed optimization algorithms which have produced better accuracy on the
benchmark instances but have not been applied yet for the optimization of
energy consumption in smart homes. In this paper, we have carried out a
detailed literature review of the techniques used for the optimization of
energy consumption and scheduling in smart homes. The detailed discussion has
been carried out on different factors contributing towards thermal comfort,
visual comfort, and air quality comfort. We have also reviewed the fog and edge
computing techniques used in smart homes
Intelligent systems in manufacturing: current developments and future prospects
Global competition and rapidly changing customer requirements are demanding increasing changes in manufacturing environments. Enterprises are required to constantly redesign their products and continuously reconfigure their manufacturing systems. Traditional approaches to manufacturing systems do not fully satisfy this new situation. Many authors have proposed that artificial intelligence will bring the flexibility and efficiency needed by manufacturing systems. This paper is a review of artificial intelligence techniques used in manufacturing systems. The paper first defines the components of a simplified intelligent manufacturing systems (IMS), the different Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to be considered and then shows how these AI techniques are used for the components of IMS
Adaptive neuro-fuzzy technique for autonomous ground vehicle navigation
This article proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for solving navigation problems of an autonomous ground vehicle (AGV). The system consists of four ANFIS controllers; two of which are used for regulating both the left and right angular velocities of the AGV in order to reach the target position; and other two ANFIS controllers are used for optimal heading adjustment in order to avoid obstacles. The two velocity controllers receive three sensor inputs: front distance (FD); right distance (RD) and left distance (LD) for the low-level motion control. Two heading controllers deploy the angle difference (AD) between the heading of AGV and the angle to the target to choose the optimal direction. The simulation experiments have been carried out under two different scenarios to investigate the feasibility of the proposed ANFIS technique. The simulation results have been presented using MATLAB software package; showing that ANFIS is capable of performing the navigation and path planning task safely and efficiently in a workspace populated with static obstacles
Evolution engine technology in exhaust gas recirculation for heavy-duty diesel engine
In this present year, engineers have been researching and inventing to get the optimum of less emission in every vehicle for a better environmental friendly. Diesel engines are known reusing of the exhaust gas in order to reduce the exhaust emissions such as NOx that contribute high factors in the pollution. In this paper, we have conducted a study that EGR instalment in the vehicle can be good as it helps to prevent highly amount of toxic gas formation, which NOx level can be lowered. But applying the EGR it can lead to more cooling and more space which will affect in terms of the costing. Throughout the research, fuelling in the engine affects the EGR producing less emission. Other than that, it contributes to the less of performance efficiency when vehicle load is less
Self-tuning run-time reconfigurable PID controller
Digital PID control algorithm is one of the most commonly used algorithms in the control systems area. This algorithm is very well known, it is simple, easily implementable in the computer control systems and most of all its operation is very predictable. Thus PID control has got well known impact on the control system behavior. However, in its simple form the controller have no reconfiguration support. In a case of the controlled system substantial changes (or the whole control environment, in the wider aspect, for example if the disturbances characteristics would change) it is not possible to make the PID controller robust enough. In this paper a new structure of digital PID controller is proposed, where the policy-based computing is used to equip the controller with the ability to adjust it's behavior according to the environmental changes. Application to the electro-oil evaporator which is a part of distillation installation is used to show the new controller structure in operation
