    Get PDF
Objectives: This research developed and evaluated the effectiveness of an innovative mobile application for wellness tourism destination competitiveness and also studied the adoption effectiveness of this application. Methods/Analysis: A mixed-methods research and development approach was applied to construct a wellness tourism destination competitiveness evaluation model for qualitative research using in-depth interviews, followed by quantitative research using a questionnaire. Weighted scores of criteria and indicators for wellness tourism destination competitiveness were evaluated by the DEMATEL method. The cut-off points for classifying the competitiveness level were set by K-means cluster analysis, while the internal and external accuracy of the model were validated by the confusion matrix technique and the Kruskal-Wallis test. The innovative mobile application was developed using a linear waterfall conceptual design consisting of five software development phases: requirement, design, implementation, verification, and maintenance. A questionnaire was also used to assess the adoption and commercialization of the innovative mobile application. Findings: Results showed that 1) the model gave high accuracy with the confusion matrix technique at 85.42% and the Kruskal-Wallis test classified destination competitiveness at a significance level of 0.0001; and 2) the level of adoption of the innovative mobile application was high. Target users were interested in purchasing a license as the commercial mode of the program. Novelty/Improvement:This research provides a tool to assess the overall competitiveness of wellness tourism destinations. Results can be used to support decision-making and provide practical suggestions for wellness tourism cluster users to adapt when conducting their own competitiveness assessment. The competitiveness assessment results were accurate and in line with the research objectives. Doi: 10.28991/HIJ-2023-04-03-010 Full Text: PD

Background: The aim of this study was presenting a human resource auditing model strategies in hospitals affiliated to social security organization. Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative method. The statistical population of the study included audit and human resources elites in hospitals affiliated with social security in Kerman, ten of them were selected using purposeful (non-probabilistic) sampling method. During the study and survey of experts, 106 indicators for the implementation of functional and macro level strategies were identified and were placed in the form of 15 concepts. The content validity index of the questionnaire was confirmed with a value of larger than 0.79. The developed questionnaire was submitted to 10 human resources experts. Kappa coefficient index has been used to determine the reliability, Fuzzy Delphi technique and cognitive mapping method are used to analyze the data of this study. The data in the final cross-matrix questionnaire were used as input data for the Ucinet and NetDraw system to design the pattern. Results: 106 Indicators were determined under 15 categories including mental, psychological, physical and scientific skills, interaction, allocation, organization, supervision, thinking, professional, cognitive, individual, interpersonal, strategic and managerial. It was individual skills. Management skills were identified as a focal node called the ego with nodes directly connected to the alter. Conclusion: The results of the present study can be used by managers to the rules, goals and macro policies of related organizations

Myths of the West : lessons from developed countries for development finance

Over the years, World Bank missions recommended establishing development finance companies (DFCs) to provide long term financing for worthwile ( primarily industrial ) projects. The author reviews the DFCs performance and states that in general, it has been disappointing. Few are self supporting; a third are in serious difficulty, and by 1983 half of the banks had arrears on a quarter of their loans. By the early 1980s, the Bank's wisdom in establishing DFCs was being questioned. From the recent experience of a group of developed countries, the author concludes that : 1) an efficient banking system is central to the promotion of economic growth, 2) the performance of financial markets is not necessarily furthered by artificially lengthening the maturity of bank lending, 3) economic growth is not promoted through the financing of projects, 4) corporate organization, not project activity, is what distinguishes developed from developing countries. Economic growth relies on the structure and quality of financial institutions., and 5) financial assistance is only part of what is needed to create an appropriate institutional structure. Prepared by and for policy-makers, leaders of public sector research establishments, technology transfer professionals, licensing executives, and scientists, this online resource offers up-to-date information and strategies for utilizing the power of both intellectual property and the public domain. Emphasis is placed on advancing innovation in health and agriculture, though many of the principles outlined here are broadly applicable across technology fields. Eschewing ideological debates and general proclamations, the authors always keep their eye on the practical side of IP management. The site is based on a comprehensive Handbook and Executive Guide that provide substantive discussions and analysis of the opportunities awaiting anyone in the field who wants to put intellectual property to work. This multi-volume work contains 153 chapters on a full range of IP topics and over 50 case studies, composed by over 200 authors from North, South, East, and West. If you are a policymaker, a senior administrator, a technology transfer manager, or a scientist, we invite you to use the companion site guide available at http://www.iphandbook.org/index.html The site guide distills the key points of each IP topic covered by the Handbook into simple language and places it in the context of evolving best practices specific to your professional role within the overall picture of IP management

A new comparative approach to macroeconomic modeling and policy analysis

    Get PDF
In the aftermath of the global financial crisis, the state of macroeconomic modeling and the use of macroeconomic models in policy analysis has come under heavy criticism. Macroeconomists in academia and policy institutions have been blamed for relying too much on a particular class of macroeconomic models. This paper proposes a comparative approach to macroeconomic policy analysis that is open to competing modeling paradigms. Macroeconomic model comparison projects have helped produce some very influential insights such as the Taylor rule. However, they have been infrequent and costly, because they require the input of many teams of researchers and multiple meetings to obtain a limited set of comparative findings. This paper provides a new approach that enables individual researchers to conduct model comparisons easily, frequently, at low cost and on a large scale. Using this approach a model archive is built that includes many well-known empirically estimated models that may be used for quantitative analysis of monetary and fiscal stabilization policies. A computational platform is created that allows straightforward comparisons of models’ implications. Its application is illustrated by comparing different monetary and fiscal policies across selected models. Researchers can easily include new models in the data base and compare the effects of novel extensions to established benchmarks thereby fostering a comparative instead of insular approach to model development
