Design of Europeana Cloud technical infrastructure
In this paper, we present the overview of Europeana Cloud system, which is a new undertaking of Europeana Foundation and partnering institutions aimed to provide shared, cloud-based infrastructure for aggregation and exchange of cultural heritage metadata and content for European institutions
LODE: Linking Digital Humanities Content to the Web of Data
Numerous digital humanities projects maintain their data collections in the
form of text, images, and metadata. While data may be stored in many formats,
from plain text to XML to relational databases, the use of the resource
description framework (RDF) as a standardized representation has gained
considerable traction during the last five years. Almost every digital
humanities meeting has at least one session concerned with the topic of digital
humanities, RDF, and linked data. While most existing work in linked data has
focused on improving algorithms for entity matching, the aim of the
LinkedHumanities project is to build digital humanities tools that work "out of
the box," enabling their use by humanities scholars, computer scientists,
librarians, and information scientists alike. With this paper, we report on the
Linked Open Data Enhancer (LODE) framework developed as part of the
LinkedHumanities project. With LODE we support non-technical users to enrich a
local RDF repository with high-quality data from the Linked Open Data cloud.
LODE links and enhances the local RDF repository without compromising the
quality of the data. In particular, LODE supports the user in the enhancement
and linking process by providing intuitive user-interfaces and by suggesting
high-quality linking candidates using tailored matching algorithms. We hope
that the LODE framework will be useful to digital humanities scholars
complementing other digital humanities tools

Europeana Creative. EDM Endpoint. Custom Views
The paper discusses the Europeana Creative project which aims to
facilitate re-use of cultural heritage metadata and content by the creative industries. The paper focuses on the contribution of Ontotext to the project activities.
The Europeana Data Model (EDM) is further discussed as a new proposal for
structuring the data that Europeana will ingest, manage and publish. The advantages of using EDM instead of the current ESE metadata set are highlighted.
Finally, Ontotextâs EDM Endpoint is presented, based on OWLIM semantic repository and SPARQL query language. A user-friendly RDF view is presented in order to illustrate the possibilities of Forest - an extensible modular user interface framework for creating linked data and semantic web applications
New Renaissance (The)
Les sages de ce comité ont procédé à l\u27étude du projet de numérisation de l\u27ensemble du patrimoine culturel européen et proposent dans ce rapport une série de recommandations visant à encadrer cet ambitieux programme afin de :
-partager notre patrimoine commun, dans toute sa richesse et sa diversité ;
- relier notre passé à notre présent ;
- préserver cet héritage pour les générations futures ;
- protĂ©ger les intĂ©rĂȘts des crĂ©ateurs europĂ©ens ;
- favoriser la créativité, celles des professionnels comme celles des amateur
Crowds for Clouds: Recent Trends in Humanities Research Infrastructures
Humanities have convincingly argued that they need transnational research
opportunities and through the digital transformation of their disciplines also
have the means to proceed with it on an up to now unknown scale. The digital
transformation of research and its resources means that many of the artifacts,
documents, materials, etc. that interest humanities research can now be
combined in new and innovative ways. Due to the digital transformations, (big)
data and information have become central to the study of culture and society.
Humanities research infrastructures manage, organise and distribute this kind
of information and many more data objects as they becomes relevant for social
and cultural research
Electronic Imaging & the Visual Arts. EVA 2012 Florence
The key aim of this Event is to provide a forum for the user, supplier and scientific research communities to meet and exchange experiences, ideas and plans in the wide area of Culture & Technology. Participants receive up to date news on new EC and international arts computing & telecommunications initiatives as well as on Projects in the visual arts field, in archaeology and history. Working Groups and new Projects are promoted. Scientific and technical demonstrations are presented
A Web GIS-based Integration of 3D Digital Models with Linked Open Data for Cultural Heritage Exploration
This PhD project explores how geospatial semantic web concepts, 3D web-based visualisation, digital interactive map, and cloud computing concepts could be integrated to enhance digital cultural heritage exploration; to offer long-term archiving and dissemination of 3D digital cultural heritage models; to better interlink heterogeneous and sparse cultural heritage data.
The research findings were disseminated via four peer-reviewed journal articles and a conference article presented at GISTAM 2020 conference (which received the âBest Student Paper Awardâ)
