Robust Visual Tracking Revisited: From Correlation Filter to Template Matching
In this paper, we propose a novel matching based tracker by investigating the
relationship between template matching and the recent popular correlation
filter based trackers (CFTs). Compared to the correlation operation in CFTs, a
sophisticated similarity metric termed "mutual buddies similarity" (MBS) is
proposed to exploit the relationship of multiple reciprocal nearest neighbors
for target matching. By doing so, our tracker obtains powerful discriminative
ability on distinguishing target and background as demonstrated by both
empirical and theoretical analyses. Besides, instead of utilizing single
template with the improper updating scheme in CFTs, we design a novel online
template updating strategy named "memory filtering" (MF), which aims to select
a certain amount of representative and reliable tracking results in history to
construct the current stable and expressive template set. This scheme is
beneficial for the proposed tracker to comprehensively "understand" the target
appearance variations, "recall" some stable results. Both qualitative and
quantitative evaluations on two benchmarks suggest that the proposed tracking
method performs favorably against some recently developed CFTs and other

The Effectiveness of Vestibular Rehabilitation on Balance Related Impairments among Multiple Sclerosis Patients: A Systematic Review
Background: Balance related dysfunction remains a debilitating clinical manifestation among people with Multiple Sclerosis (pwMS) causing significant morbidity and reduced quality of life. Imbalance is found to stem primarily from neurophysiological causes. Current management strategies have shown to have small but clinically insignificant results with little consideration towards vestibular sources of postural instability. Vestibular rehabilitation (VR) provides a promising treatment strategy to mediate balance dysfunction among people with pwMS.Design: Systematic Review, guided by PRISMA guidelines and presenting a best evidence synthesis.Data sources: 10 electronic databases were searched from inception until September 2019.Eligibility criteria for study selection: Article of original research, population of patients with multiple sclerosis aged over 18, interventions detailing VR protocols, measurement of outcomes pre-VR/post-VR.Results: Seven articles satisfied the eligibility criteria. 6/7 studies were rated as high quality and regarded as level one evidence. 5 studies consisted of standardised VR protocols while 2 studies consisted of customised VR. All studies identified improvements of mixed significance in balance, fatigue and dizziness outcomes post VR. Heterogeneity among VR prescription patterns limited optimal prescription guidelines.Conclusions: The available evidence shows promise that VR is a safe and ef- fective strategy to provide short term benefits in balance related dysfunction in pwMS. Recommendations of mixed strength are made based on the quality of current literature. Current evidence for optimal prescription and long-term effects of VR is limited. Further high-level studies evaluating the effects of VR in patients with multiple sclerosis with vestibular and/or balance dysfunction are required
i-JEN: Visual interactive Malaysia crime news retrieval system
Supporting crime news investigation involves a mechanism to help monitor the current and past status of criminal events. We believe this could be well facilitated by focusing on the user interfaces and the event crime model aspects. In this paper we discuss on a development of Visual Interactive Malaysia Crime News Retrieval System (i-JEN) and describe the approach, user studies and planned, the system architecture and future plan. Our main objectives are to construct crime-based event; investigate the use of crime-based event in improving the classification and clustering; develop an interactive crime news retrieval system; visualize crime news in an effective and interactive way; integrate them into a usable and robust system and evaluate the usability and system performance. The system will serve as a news monitoring system which aims to automatically organize, retrieve and present the crime news in such a way as to support an effective monitoring, searching, and browsing for the target users groups of general public, news analysts and policemen or crime investigators. The study will contribute to the better understanding of the crime data consumption in the Malaysian context as well as the developed system with the visualisation features to address crime data and the eventual goal of combating the crimes
Self Paced Deep Learning for Weakly Supervised Object Detection
In a weakly-supervised scenario object detectors need to be trained using
image-level annotation alone. Since bounding-box-level ground truth is not
available, most of the solutions proposed so far are based on an iterative,
Multiple Instance Learning framework in which the current classifier is used to
select the highest-confidence boxes in each image, which are treated as
pseudo-ground truth in the next training iteration. However, the errors of an
immature classifier can make the process drift, usually introducing many of
false positives in the training dataset. To alleviate this problem, we propose
in this paper a training protocol based on the self-paced learning paradigm.
The main idea is to iteratively select a subset of images and boxes that are
the most reliable, and use them for training. While in the past few years
similar strategies have been adopted for SVMs and other classifiers, we are the
first showing that a self-paced approach can be used with deep-network-based
classifiers in an end-to-end training pipeline. The method we propose is built
on the fully-supervised Fast-RCNN architecture and can be applied to similar
architectures which represent the input image as a bag of boxes. We show
state-of-the-art results on Pascal VOC 2007, Pascal VOC 2010 and ILSVRC 2013.
On ILSVRC 2013 our results based on a low-capacity AlexNet network outperform
even those weakly-supervised approaches which are based on much higher-capacity

Challenging Party Hegemony: Identity Work in China’s Emerging Virreal Places
The Chinese Communist Party has chosen to base the legitimacy of its rule on its performance as leading national power. Since national identity is based on shared imaginations of and directly tied to territory – hence place, this paper analyses both heterodox models for identification on the national and potentially competing place-based collective identities on the local level. This analysis, based on communication within a number of popular communication forums and on observation of behavior in the physical reality of today’s urban China, shows that communication within the virtual and behavior in the real world are not separated realities but form a new virreal spatial continuum consisting of imagined places both online and offline. I argue that ties to place are stronger and identities constructed on shared imaginations of place are more salient the more direct the experience of place is – be the place real, virtual or virreal. E-mail and Direct Participation in Decision Making: A Literature Review
This paper reviews the literature on the effects of the use of e-mail on direct participation in decision making (PDM) in organisations. After a brief review of the organisational literature on participation the paper distinguishes e-mail theories on direct participation in three different theoretical perspectives. Then the paper focuses the attention on the role of e-mail in affecting task type, vertical and horizontal communication and their consequences for PDM.
