SLAM research for port AGV based on 2D LIDAR
With the increase in international trade, the transshipment of goods at international container ports is very busy. The AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) has been used as a new generation of automated container horizontal transport equipment. The AGV is an automated unmanned vehicle that can work 24 hours a day, increasing productivity and reducing labor costs compared to using container trucks. The ability to obtain information about the surrounding environment is a prerequisite for the AGV to automatically complete tasks in the port area. At present, the method of AGV based on RFID tag positioning and navigation has a problem of excessive cost. This dissertation has carried out a research on applying light detection and ranging (LIDAR) simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to port AGV. In this master's thesis, a mobile test platform based on a laser range finder is developed to scan 360-degree environmental information (distance and angle) centered on the LIDAR and upload the information to a real-time database to generate surrounding environmental maps, and the obstacle avoidance strategy was developed based on the acquired information. The effectiveness of the platform was verified by the experiments from multiple scenarios. Then based on the first platform, another experimental platform with encoder and IMU sensor was developed. In this platform, the functionality of SLAM is enabled by the GMapping algorithm and the installation of the encoder and IMU sensor. Based on the established environment SLAM map, the path planning and obstacle avoidance functions of the platform were realized.
Low Cost Swarm Based Diligent Cargo Transit System
The goal of this paper is to present the design and development of a low cost
cargo transit system which can be adapted in developing countries like India
where there is abundant and cheap human labour which makes the process of
automation in any industry a challenge to innovators. The need of the hour is
an automation system that can diligently transfer cargo from one place to
another and minimize human intervention in the cargo transit industry.
Therefore, a solution is being proposed which could effectively bring down
human labour and the resources needed to implement them. The reduction in human
labour and resources is achieved by the use of low cost components and very
limited modification of the surroundings and the existing vehicles themselves.
The operation of the cargo transit system has been verified and the relevant
results are presented. An economical and robust cargo transit system is
designed and implemented.Comment: 6 pages, 9 figures, 1 block diagra
Component-based control system development for agile manufacturing machine systems
It is now a common sense that manufactures including machine suppliers and system
integrators of the 21 st century will need to compete on global marketplaces, which are
frequently shifting and fragmenting, with new technologies continuously emerging.
Future production machines and manufacturing systems need to offer the "agility"
required in providing responsiveness to product changes and the ability to
reconfigure. The primary aim for this research is to advance studies in machine
control system design, in the context of the European project VIR-ENG - "Integrated
Design, Simulation and Distributed Control of Agile Modular Machinery"
Design and development of autonomous guided vehicle (AGV)
The technologies running fast we ever imagined before. The implementation
of computer chip can be seen anywhere in every parts of this world. Humans are
looking for automatic system that will make their life easier. This paper describes a
project of design and development of autonomous guided vehicle (AGV). An AGV
is a vehicle that uses no operator to drive that often used in material transportation in
an automated production line or in automatic storage and retrieval system. This AGV
running through the electronic programmed to drive the material or parts product to
the specific destination. Sometimes this vehicle programmed to move to follow the
line on the floor. This project required the student to build a prototype of an AGV in
smaller scale but have the basic function as the real AGV where this prototype of
AGV are able to move to the specific workstations and waiting for the task to
accomplished. This project requested to complete the process of technical study,
design, analysis, parts machining, assembly as well as testing and refinement of an
AGV in the two-semester course. The four-wheeled AGY is driven by a stepper
motor, move and steered by a different rotation of the motor. This AGV controlled
by PlC microcontroller and TJLN2803AG integrated circuit. Through this project,
students are able to learn how to innovate the technological product through the
small scopes of project
AGV RAD: AGV positioning system for ports using microwave doppler radar
Automation and intelligence have become an inevitable trend in the development of container terminals. The AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) positioning is a primary problem to build the automated ports. Although the existing Ultra-High Frequency(UHF) RFID technology has good measurement accuracy and stability in the port AGV positioning, the exposed magnetic tags are easy to damage under the common heavy load, and its construction and maintenance cost is unbearable to most ports.
Among the candidate technologies for the AGV positioning, microwave Doppler radar has a strong penetrating ability, and can work well in a complex environment (day and night, foggy, rainy). Therefore, the microwave Doppler radar-based AGV positioning system has attracted a lot of attention.
In this thesis, a test system using the above technique was established, together with a NI myRIO real-time Wi-Fi compatible computation platform. Several computation algorithms were implemented to extract the accurate values of range and velocity. Wavelet denoising with the adapted threshold function was considered to filter noise contained in radar signals. In the frequency domain analysis, FFT and Chirp-Z Transform (CZT) joint algorithm was proposed to suppress the influence of fence effects and also improves real-time performance. In addition, 2D-FFT is used to calculate velocity of AGV. According to the port-like environment, the suitable AGV positioning algorithm and communication method based on microwave Doppler radars and NI myRIO-1900s also be proposed.
The effectiveness of the proposed system was experimentally tested and several results are included in this thesis.

Sustainable supply chain management in the digitalisation era: The impact of Automated Guided Vehicles
Internationalization of markets and climate change introduce multifaceted challenges for modern supply chain (SC) management in the today's digitalisation era. On the other hand, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems have reached an age of maturity that allows for their utilization towards tackling dynamic market conditions and aligning SC management focus with sustainability considerations. However, extant research only myopically tackles the sustainability potential of AGVs, focusing more on addressing network optimization problems and less on developing integrated and systematic methodological approaches for promoting economic, environmental and social sustainability. To that end, the present study provides a critical taxonomy of key decisions for facilitating the adoption of AGV systems into SC design and planning, as these are mapped on the relevant strategic, tactical and operational levels of the natural hierarchy. We then propose the Sustainable Supply Chain Cube (S2C2), a conceptual tool that integrates sustainable SC management with the proposed hierarchical decision-making framework for AGVs. Market opportunities and the potential of integrating AGVs into a SC context with the use of the S2C2 tool are further discussed
