POSTER: Privacy-preserving Indoor Localization
Upcoming WiFi-based localization systems for indoor environments face a
conflict of privacy interests: Server-side localization violates location
privacy of the users, while localization on the user's device forces the
localization provider to disclose the details of the system, e.g.,
sophisticated classification models. We show how Secure Two-Party Computation
can be used to reconcile privacy interests in a state-of-the-art localization
system. Our approach provides strong privacy guarantees for all involved
parties, while achieving room-level localization accuracy at reasonable

Software Defined Media: Virtualization of Audio-Visual Services
Internet-native audio-visual services are witnessing rapid development. Among
these services, object-based audio-visual services are gaining importance. In
2014, we established the Software Defined Media (SDM) consortium to target new
research areas and markets involving object-based digital media and
Internet-by-design audio-visual environments. In this paper, we introduce the
SDM architecture that virtualizes networked audio-visual services along with
the development of smart buildings and smart cities using Internet of Things
(IoT) devices and smart building facilities. Moreover, we design the SDM
architecture as a layered architecture to promote the development of innovative
applications on the basis of rapid advancements in software-defined networking
(SDN). Then, we implement a prototype system based on the architecture, present
the system at an exhibition, and provide it as an SDM API to application
developers at hackathons. Various types of applications are developed using the
API at these events. An evaluation of SDM API access shows that the prototype
SDM platform effectively provides 3D audio reproducibility and interactiveness

Distributed and adaptive location identification system for mobile devices
Indoor location identification and navigation need to be as simple, seamless,
and ubiquitous as its outdoor GPS-based counterpart is. It would be of great
convenience to the mobile user to be able to continue navigating seamlessly as
he or she moves from a GPS-clear outdoor environment into an indoor environment
or a GPS-obstructed outdoor environment such as a tunnel or forest. Existing
infrastructure-based indoor localization systems lack such capability, on top
of potentially facing several critical technical challenges such as increased
cost of installation, centralization, lack of reliability, poor localization
accuracy, poor adaptation to the dynamics of the surrounding environment,
latency, system-level and computational complexities, repetitive
labor-intensive parameter tuning, and user privacy. To this end, this paper
presents a novel mechanism with the potential to overcome most (if not all) of
the abovementioned challenges. The proposed mechanism is simple, distributed,
adaptive, collaborative, and cost-effective. Based on the proposed algorithm, a
mobile blind device can potentially utilize, as GPS-like reference nodes,
either in-range location-aware compatible mobile devices or preinstalled
low-cost infrastructure-less location-aware beacon nodes. The proposed approach
is model-based and calibration-free that uses the received signal strength to
periodically and collaboratively measure and update the radio frequency
characteristics of the operating environment to estimate the distances to the
reference nodes. Trilateration is then used by the blind device to identify its
own location, similar to that used in the GPS-based system. Simulation and
empirical testing ascertained that the proposed approach can potentially be the
core of future indoor and GPS-obstructed environments
Performance Evaluation of Mobile U-Navigation based on GPS/WLAN Hybridization
This paper present our mobile u-navigation system. This approach utilizes
hybridization of wireless local area network and Global Positioning System
internal sensor which to receive signal strength from access point and the same
time retrieve Global Navigation System Satellite signal. This positioning
information will be switched based on type of environment in order to ensure
the ubiquity of positioning system. Finally we present our results to
illustrate the performance of the localization system for an indoor/ outdoor

Visual Localisation of Mobile Devices in an Indoor Environment under Network Delay Conditions
Current progresses in home automation and service robotic environment have
highlighted the need to develop interoperability mechanisms that allow a
standard communication between the two systems. During the development of the
DHCompliant protocol, the problem of locating mobile devices in an indoor
environment has been investigated. The communication of the device with the
location service has been carried out to study the time delay that web services
offer in front of the sockets. The importance of obtaining data from real-time
location systems portends that a basic tool for interoperability, such as web
services, can be ineffective in this scenario because of the delays added in
the invocation of services. This paper is focused on introducing a web service
to resolve a coordinates request without any significant delay in comparison
with the sockets
