    CANDLE: Decomposing Conditional and Conjunctive Queries for Task-Oriented Dialogue Systems

    Domain-specific dialogue systems generally determine user intents by relying on sentence-level classifiers which mainly focus on single action sentences. Such classifiers are not designed to effectively handle complex queries composed of conditional and sequential clauses that represent multiple actions. We attempt to decompose such queries into smaller single-action sub-queries that are reasonable for intent classifiers to understand in a dialogue pipeline. We release CANDLE (Conditional & AND type Expressions), a dataset consisting of 3124 utterances manually tagged with conditional and sequential labels and demonstrates this decomposition by training two baseline taggers

    Use of a Fast Information Extraction Method as a Decision Support Tool

    Ad-hoc extraction of information from documents can ensure the transparency of decisions made by an organization. Different Information Extraction methods have been applied to extract information from various domains. Most widely known methods use manually annotated training documents that require high development time. The automated training methods are not scalable to large application domains. We have developed a semi-automated knowledge-engineering method for building the knowledge-base with minimal efforts. Because our method reduces manual processing of the training data, the development process is very fast. We have developed a prototype application to extract information from the project-reports of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The fast development process of our system, its scalability to large application domains, and its high extraction effectiveness will help the transparency of management decisions by extracting and mining relevant information

    Architecture-Based Unit Testing of the Flight Software Product Line

    This paper presents an analysis of the unit testing approach developed and used by the Core Flight Software (CFS) product line team at the NASA GSFC. The goal of the analysis is to understand, review, and reconunend strategies for improving the existing unit testing infrastructure as well as to capture lessons learned and best practices that can be used by other product line teams for their unit testing. The CFS unit testing framework is designed and implemented as a set of variation points, and thus testing support is built into the product line architecture. The analysis found that the CFS unit testing approach has many practical and good solutions that are worth considering when deciding how to design the testing architecture for a product line, which are documented in this paper along with some suggested innprovennents

    Change Support in Process-Aware Information Systems - A Pattern-Based Analysis

    In today's dynamic business world the economic success of an enterprise increasingly depends on its ability to react to changes in its environment in a quick and flexible way. Process-aware information systems (PAIS) offer promising perspectives in this respect and are increasingly employed for operationally supporting business processes. To provide effective business process support, flexible PAIS are needed which do not freeze existing business processes, but allow for loosely specified processes, which can be detailed during run-time. In addition, PAIS should enable authorized users to flexibly deviate from the predefined processes if required (e.g., by allowing them to dynamically add, delete, or move process activities) and to evolve business processes over time. At the same time PAIS must ensure consistency and robustness. The emergence of different process support paradigms and the lack of methods for comparing existing change approaches have made it difficult for PAIS engineers to choose the adequate technology. In this paper we suggest a set of changes patterns and change support features to foster the systematic comparison of existing process management technology with respect to process change support. Based on these change patterns and features, we provide a detailed analysis and evaluation of selected systems from both academia and industry. The identified change patterns and change support features facilitate the comparison of change support frameworks, and consequently will support PAIS engineers in selecting the right technology for realizing flexible PAIS. In addition, this work can be used as a reference for implementing more flexible PAIS
