'Sense and respond' and 'autonomic' logistics: a review of US and UK developments
Until recently, platform-based, logistics applications required data to be physically downloaded and transferred between systems so that analysis could estimate the status of key components. In both the Sense and Respond Logistics (S&RL) and Autonomic Logistics (AL) systems, prognostics have been added to monitoring functions, effectively extending the reach of Combat Service Support (CSS). The scope the supply chain has also been expanded with the potential inclusion of some classes of supply within the AL approach. The real time and predictive aspects are relatively new logistics developments facilitated by the real-time communication of data while platforms are in operation.
While the (Australian) Military Integrated Logistics Information System (MILIS) proposes to extend the reach of supply chain information to sub-unit level, it falls short of crossing the gap to link Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS), platform-based, data into the logistics continuum to provide end-to-end visibility, a foxhole-to-factory-to-foxhole perspective, of the supply chain.
This paper will review developments in recent military applications of Autonomic Logistics and Sense & Respond Logistics in the United States Defense Forces and the military in the UK while also considering a selection of Australian Defence Force programs. It will state the case for application of Autonomic Logistics and Sense & Respond Logistics to the ASLAV and Bushmaster platforms, in a similar fashion to those employed in the US and the UK, as a source of accurate and up-to-date CSS information for the various levels of command

Sustainable development strategies for product provision and manufacturing approaches
Manufacturing firms are under many pressures both financially and competitive which focus attention on the performance of their manufacturing processes. In this paper the opportunities for improving the environmental impact of products within the constraints of existing manufacturing infrastructure are examined. Approaches which support sustainability in two aspects are proposed, firstly, the provision of products to the users in ways which extend the product life and secondly, manufacturing approaches which reduce resource usage. The provision and manufacture of products in ways that are truly sustainable are inhibited by three issues: firstly, decisions are predominantly made solely from the perspective of the âvendorâ (and do not consider the wider perspective); secondly, that generally the scope of business planning is still rooted in production/manufacturing costs (and not consumption costs) and thirdly, the current performance measures (e.g. KPIs) mainly focus on profitability. The rationale for this conference paper is the argument that there is a need to raise the awareness during the earliest stages of business planning that there may be alternative approaches which are more sustainable. The concepts presented here will underpin further research into performance measures which encompass sustainability and resulting business planning implications
State of the Industry 4.0 in the Andalusian food sector
The food industry is a key issue in the economic structure of Andalusia, due to both the weight and position of this industry in the economy and its advantages and potentials.
The term Industry 4.0 carries many meanings. It seeks to describe the intelligent factory, with all the processes interconnected by Internet of things (IOT). Early advances in this field have involved the incorporation of greater flexibility and individualization of the manufacturing processes.
The implementation of the framework proposed by Industry 4.0. is a need for the industry in general, and for Andalusian food industry in particular, and should be seen as a great opportunity of progress for the sector. It is expected that, along with others, the food and beverage industry will be pioneer in the adoption of flexible and individualized manufacturing processes.

Stochastic multi-period multi-product multi-objective Aggregate Production Planning model in multi-echelon supply chain
In this paper a multi-period multi-product multi-objective aggregate production planning (APP) model is proposed for an uncertain multi-echelon supply chain considering financial risk, customer satisfaction, and human resource training. Three conflictive objective functions and several sets of real constraints are considered concurrently in the proposed APP model. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be uncertain and handled through a two-stage stochastic programming (TSSP) approach. The proposed TSSP is solved using three multi-objective solution procedures, i.e., the goal attainment technique, the modified Îľ-constraint method, and STEM method. The whole procedure is applied in an automotive resin and oil supply chain as a real case study wherein the efficacy and applicability of the proposed approaches are illustrated in comparison with existing experimental production planning method
