    Business-to-Business integration (B2Bi) is considered to be not merely an IT-issue, but also a business problem. This paper draws attention to the challenges companies within an Extended Enterprise are confronted with when integrating their systems. We primarily pay attention to coordination problems that may arise. To overcome these problems we propose the use of Enterprise Architecture descriptions. We discuss the powers of using Enterprise Architecture descriptions in integration exercises. It will become clear that doing Enterprise Architecture is no longer an option; it is mandatory. Furthermore, we present the FADEE, the Framework for the Architectural Description of the Extended Enterprise.     Discovering Business Models of Data Marketplaces

    The modern economy relies heavily on data as a resource for advancement and growth. Data marketplaces have gained an increasing amount of attention since they provide possibilities to exchange, trade and access data across organizations. Due to the rapid development of the field, the research on business models of data marketplaces is fragmented. We aimed to address this issue in this article by identifying the dimensions and characteristics of data marketplaces from a business model perspective. Following a rigorous process for taxonomy building, we propose a business model taxonomy for data marketplaces. Using evidence collected from a final sample of twenty data marketplaces, we analyze the frequency of specific characteristics of data marketplaces. In addition, we identify four data marketplace business model archetypes. The findings reveal the impact of the structure of data marketplaces as well as the relevance of anonymity and encryption for identified data marketplace archetypes

    BUSINESS REPUTATION SYSTEMS BASED ON BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY—A RISKY ADVANCE

    Reputation is indispensable for online business since it supports customers in their buying decisions and allows sellers to justify premium prices. While IS research has investigated reputation systems mainly as review systems on online platforms for business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, no proper solutions have been developed for business-to-business (B2B) transactions yet. We use blockchain technology to propose a new class of reputation systems that apply ratings as voluntary bonus payments: Before a transaction is performed, customers commit to pay a bonus that is granted if a service provider has performed a service properly. As opposed to rival reputation systems that build on cumulated ratings or reviews, our system enables monetized reputation mechanisms that are inextricably linked with online transactions. We expect this system class to provide more trustworthy ratings, which might reduce agency costs and serve quality providers to establish a reputation towards new customers, building on second-order trust

    Data Sovereign Humans and the Information Economy: Towards Design Principles for Human Centric B2C Data Ecosystems

    The ever-growing amounts of data offer companies many opportunities for data-driven-value generation which, in turn, can be multiplied by leveraging data across company boundaries in evolving data ecosystems. However, while such systems increasingly emerge in B2B environments enabling systematic sharing and utilization of “industrial data”, comparable concepts in B2C ambits have not yet prevailed. Despite the rising importance of personal data in the information economy, B2C data ecosystems represent a widely unexplored research area. To remedy this gap, the study generates design principles for human centric B2C data ecosystems to aid in their development. For this purpose, a qualitative interview study with experts of interdisciplinary domains and a structured literature review are conducted both embedded into a methodology for generating design principles. On this basis, derived design principles help to understand peculiarities of data ecosystems in B2C ambits and provide solutions to overcome their obstacles identified in the empirical investigation

    A Comparative Study on Blockchain-based Electronic Health Record Systems: Performance, Privacy, and Security Between Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum Frameworks

    Traditional data collection, storage, and processing of Electronic Health Records (EHR) utilize centralized techniques that pose several risks of single point of failure and lean the systems to a number of internal and external data breaches that compromise their reliability and availability. Addressing the challenges of conventional database techniques and improving the overall aspects of EHR application, blockchain technology is being evaluated to find a possible solution. Blockchain refers to an emerging distributed technology and incorruptible database of records or digital events which execute, validate, and maintain by a ledger technology to provide an immutable architecture and prevent records manipulation or alterations. However, there are multiple frameworks emerged in recent years where identifying the advantages and limitation is crucial. This thesis focuses on (i) introducing electronic health records systems using two widely used blockchain frameworks, Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum. (ii)aims to provide a comparative study on both frameworks from the performance, privacy, and security perspectives. Based on two different introduced EHR systems, we identify the strength and weaknesses of both frameworks and present the challenges and limitations of these systems. According to a comparative study, the Hyperledger Fabric framework demonstrates advanced features including private and consortium networks that can facilitate EHR systems from both security and performance perspectives. Taking the experience into consideration, we aim to extend our study in software engineering domain to evaluate the limits to developing blockchain-based software applications and highlight the way to improve current SE practices in future studies

In this regard, inter-organizational data sharing shines in a new light prompting businesses to leverage their potential. However, it is still unclear what data sharing actually entails, i.e., what it means, what its potentials are, and what barriers one must overcome. In short, it lacks conceptual clarity and a clear description of its characteristics. The conceptual ambiguity and the synonymous use with data exchange in the literature are particularly problematic, which prevents a targeted conceptualization and use. The paper starts precisely at this point as it proposes a unifying definition and characteristics of data sharing.     A Reference System Architecture with Data Sovereignty for Human-Centric Data Ecosystems

    Since the European information economy faces insufficient access to and joint utilization of data, data ecosystems increasingly emerge as economical solutions in B2B environments. Contrarily, in B2C ambits, concepts for sharing and monetizing personal data have not yet prevailed, impeding growth and innovation. Their major pitfall is European data protection law that merely ascribes human data subjects a need for data privacy while widely neglecting their economic participatory claims to data. The study reports on a design science research (DSR) approach addressing this gap and proposes an abstract reference system architecture for an ecosystem centered on humans with personal data. In this DSR approach, multiple methods are embedded to iteratively build and evaluate the artifact, i.e., structured literature reviews, design recovery, prototyping, and expert interviews. Managerial contributions embody novel design knowledge about the conceptual development of human-centric B2C data ecosystems, considering their legal, ethical, economic, and technical constraints
