    Overview of compressed sensing: Sensing model, reconstruction algorithm, and its applications

    With the development of intelligent networks such as the Internet of Things, network scales are becoming increasingly larger, and network environments increasingly complex, which brings a great challenge to network communication. The issues of energy-saving, transmission efficiency, and security were gradually highlighted. Compressed sensing (CS) helps to simultaneously solve those three problems in the communication of intelligent networks. In CS, fewer samples are required to reconstruct sparse or compressible signals, which breaks the restrict condition of a traditional Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem. Here, we give an overview of recent CS studies, along the issues of sensing models, reconstruction algorithms, and their applications. First, we introduce several common sensing methods for CS, like sparse dictionary sensing, block-compressed sensing, and chaotic compressed sensing. We also present several state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithms of CS, including the convex optimization, greedy, and Bayesian algorithms. Lastly, we offer recommendation for broad CS applications, such as data compression, image processing, cryptography, and the reconstruction of complex networks. We discuss works related to CS technology and some CS essentials. © 2020 by the authors

    Deep Learning Aided Data-Driven Fault Diagnosis of Rotatory Machine: A Comprehensive Review

    This paper presents a comprehensive review of the developments made in rotating bearing fault diagnosis, a crucial component of a rotatory machine, during the past decade. A data-driven fault diagnosis framework consists of data acquisition, feature extraction/feature learning, and decision making based on shallow/deep learning algorithms. In this review paper, various signal processing techniques, classical machine learning approaches, and deep learning algorithms used for bearing fault diagnosis have been discussed. Moreover, highlights of the available public datasets that have been widely used in bearing fault diagnosis experiments, such as Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Paderborn University Bearing, PRONOSTIA, and Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS), are discussed in this paper. A comparison of machine learning techniques, such as support vector machines, k-nearest neighbors, artificial neural networks, etc., deep learning algorithms such as a deep convolutional network (CNN), auto-encoder-based deep neural network (AE-DNN), deep belief network (DBN), deep recurrent neural network (RNN), and other deep learning methods that have been utilized for the diagnosis of rotary machines bearing fault, is presented

    Fault diagnosis of a rotor-bearing system under variable rotating speeds using two-stage parameter transfer and infrared thermal images

    Current fault diagnosis methods for rotor-bearing system are mostly based on analyzing the vibration signals collected at steady rotating speeds. In those methods, the data collected under one operating condition cannot be accurately used for diagnosis under a different condition. Moreover, in vibration monitoring, installing the necessary sensors will affect the equipment structure and hence the vibration response itself. The present paper proposes a new method based on two-stage parameter transfer and infrared thermal images for fault diagnosis of rotor-bearing system under variable rotating speeds. The method of parameter transfer enables the use of data (or parameters) acquired under one operating condition (called the source domain) to be extended for use in a different operating condition (called the target domain). First, scaled exponential linear unit (SELU) and modified stochastic gradient descent (MSGD) are used to construct an enhanced convolutional neural network (ECNN). Second, a stacked convolutional auto-encoder (CAE) trained based on unlabeled source-domain thermal images is employed to initialize a source-domain ECNN. Third, model parameters from the pre-trained source-domain ECNN are transferred to the target-domain ECNN to adapt to the characteristics of the target domain. The collected thermal images for a rotor-bearing system under variable speeds are used to test the transfer diagnosis performance of the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate the performance improvement and the advantages of the proposed method

    Artificial Intelligence Supported EV Electric Powertrain for Safety Improvement

    As an environmentally friendly transport option, electric vehicles (EVs) are endowed with the characteristics of low fossil energy consumption and low pollutant emissions. In today's growing market share of EVs, the safety and reliability of the powertrain system will be directly related to the safety of human life. Reliability problems of EV powertrains may occur in any power electronic (PE) component and mechanical part, both sudden and cumulative. These faults in different locations and degrees will continuously threaten the life of drivers and pedestrians, bringing irreparable consequences. Therefore, monitoring and predicting the real-time health status of EV powertrain is a high-priority, arduous and challenging task. The purposes of this study are to develop AI-supported effective safety improvement techniques for EV powertrains. In the first place, a literature review is carried out to illustrate the up-to-date AI applications for solving condition monitoring and fault detection issues of EV powertrains, where recent case studies between conventional methods and AI-based methods in EV applications are compared and analysed. On this ground this study, then, focuses on the theories and techniques concerning this topic so as to tackle different challenges encountered in the actual applications. In detail, first, as for diagnosing the bearing system in the earlier fault period, a novel inferable deep distilled attention network is designed to detect multiple bearing faults. Second, a deep learning and simulation driven approach that combines the domain-adversarial neural network and the lumped-parameter thermal network (LPTN) is proposed for achieve IPMSM permanent magnet temperature estimation work. Finally, to ensure the use safety of the IGBT module, deep learning -based IGBT modules’ double pulse test (DPT) efficiency enhancement is proposed and achieved via multimodal fusion networks and graph convolution networks
