Developing and Delivering a Data Warehousing and Mining Course
This paper describes the content and delivery of a Data Warehousing and Mining course that was developed for students in the Eberly College of Business at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This elective course introduces students to the strategies, technologies, and techniques associated with this growing MIS specialty area. Students learn what is involved in planning, designing, building, using, and managing a data warehouse. Students also learn about how a data warehouse must fit into an over-all corporate data architecture that may include legacy systems, operational data stores, enterprise data warehouses, and data marts. In addition, students are exposed to the different data mining techniques used by organizations to derive information from the data warehouse for strategic and long-term business decision making
Feasibility of Warehouse Drone Adoption and Implementation
While aerial delivery drones capture headlines, the pace of adoption of drones in warehouses has shown the greatest acceleration. Warehousing constitutes 30% of the cost of logistics in the US. The rise of e-commerce, greater customer service demands of retail stores, and a shortage of skilled labor have intensified competition for efficient warehouse operations. This takes place during an era of shortening technology life cycles. This paper integrates several theoretical perspectives on technology diffusion and adoption to propose a framework to inform supply chain decision-makers on when to invest in new robotics technology
Regional Warehouse Trip Production Analysis: Chicago Metro Area
This research report provides primary research data and analysis on heavy truck trip generation and characteristics from regional
distribution centers (RDC) and similar facilities in an effort to facilitate future public policy making regarding roadway transportation needs
as well as land-use and economic development decisions. The report also provides secondary data and information on intermodal freight
transportation - its growth and its economic impacts ??? to provide a regional, national, and international context for the research.
The primary data was obtained from a field survey of 12 distribution centers of various scales (7 of them regional) in Northeast Illinois.
The 12 facilities and their supervisory personnel were visited by the research team and analyzed in depth for their general business
characteristics (e.g. type of goods, number of employees, hours of operation etc.), property characteristics (e.g. location, facility size,
ceiling height) and their truck trip productions (e.g. number of arrivals-departures, geographic distribution of inbound-outbound movement,
volume per quarter etc.).
The findings of this research project in reference to the 12 facilities indicate the uniqueness and significant complexity of the distribution
centers. There is clear evidence of an increase in size (sq. ft & ceiling) and automation (racking systems) of the newer facilities as well as
24-hour operations. The comparison of daily heavy truck movement shows significant arrival concentration between 8am-10am and 8pm-
6am. In contrast the heaviest departure activity is between 4-6pm. The majority of originating freight is from the Midwest with the
outbound distributions also being allocated regionally then nationally and internationally (minimal allocation). Another result was the
increased volume concentration in the third quarter of each year between July and September.
The above results along with the significant expansions of RDC facilities in the last few years indicate the additional need for studying the
locations of the various facilities and the heavy truck traffic volume they generate. The results should also be useful in determining the
economics benefits/costs and impacts of these facilities for purposes of making infrastructure investment, economic incentive, and land
use decisions.Illinois Center for Transportation R27-15published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe
Drug Management Reviews in District Drug Management Unit and General Hospital
Drug is one of the essential elements in healthcare that should be effectively and efficiently managed. Following the decentralization in 2001 in Indonesia, drug management has changed in district drug management units and also in District General Hospitals. Certainly this condition influences the sustainability of drug access in primary health care such as in Community Health Center and District General Hospital, especially in drug financing policy. A cross sectional descriptive study to obtain information on drug management in public healthcare in district had been carried out between July and December 2006 in 10 District Public Drug Management Units from 10 district health offices and 9 district general hospitals as samples. Data were collected by interviewing heads of Drug Section in District Health Offices and heads of Hospital Pharmacies using structured questionnaires and observing drug storage in District Drug Management Units, Community Health Centers, and Hospital Pharmacies. Results of the study show that drug planning in District Health Offices and General Hospitals did not meet the basic real need in some districts nor District Hospitals. The minimum health service standards had not been achieved yet. Furthermore, drug procurement, storage and recording as well as reporting was not good enough either, such as shown by the existence of expired drugs. Lead time for drug delivery to community health centers in some districts was longer than the average of lead time in the past 3 years
The Role of Maintenance and Facility Management in Logistics: A Literature Review
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to provide a literature review on the different ways of carrying out Facility Management and related topics in order to uncover that there is limited research regarding the impact of Facility Management on the logistics and operational performance of warehouses. Design/methodology/approach - Four different focus areas have been identified and for each one different methodologies and streams of research have been studied. Findings - The study underlines the importance of Facility Management for the logistics operations; therefore it supports the notion that investments aiming at preserving the status of the building and service components of warehouses are crucial. Originality/value - This paper aims to suggest to Facility Management managers that they can contribute to enhance business performance by designing effective Facility Management strategie

EVALUATION INFORMATION SYSTEM DELIVERY PT. RST CARGO INTERNATIONAL
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the application of general controls and application controls on the sale of information systems as a basis to support and produce accurate information in decision-making.
The research methodology used was the literature research, field research consisting of interviews and observations, questionnaires, analysis and auditing method that I use is Auditing Around the Computer. The research literature sourced from reference books, interviews conducted by asking questions to the audit, the observation is done by making a list of questions intended for the use of the system and the analysis is done by analyzing the findings of the evaluation and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of internal control. From this analysis, the findings obtained advantages and disadvantages of internal control. Weaknesses are found to be expressed in the form of finding problems, risks and recommendations as a follow- improvement.
Conclusions derived from the results of the evaluation for management control and operational security in information systems delivery PT. RST International Cargo are still some shortcomings , while in applications such as boundary control, input and output can meet and support the delivery of PT. RST Cargo Internationa
