Integration of decision support systems to improve decision support performance

    Get PDF
Decision support system (DSS) is a well-established research and development area. Traditional isolated, stand-alone DSS has been recently facing new challenges. In order to improve the performance of DSS to meet the challenges, research has been actively carried out to develop integrated decision support systems (IDSS). This paper reviews the current research efforts with regard to the development of IDSS. The focus of the paper is on the integration aspect for IDSS through multiple perspectives, and the technologies that support this integration. More than 100 papers and software systems are discussed. Current research efforts and the development status of IDSS are explained, compared and classified. In addition, future trends and challenges in integration are outlined. The paper concludes that by addressing integration, better support will be provided to decision makers, with the expectation of both better decisions and improved decision making processes

A Survey on Economic-driven Evaluations of Information Technology

The economic-driven evaluation of information technology (IT) has become an important instrument in the management of IT projects. Numerous approaches have been developed to quantify the costs of an IT investment and its assumed profit, to evaluate its impact on business process performance, and to analyze the role of IT regarding the achievement of enterprise objectives. This paper discusses approaches for evaluating IT from an economic-driven perspective. Our comparison is based on a framework distinguishing between classification criteria and evaluation criteria. The former allow for the categorization of evaluation approaches based on their similarities and differences. The latter, by contrast, represent attributes that allow to evaluate the discussed approaches. Finally, we give an example of a typical economic-driven IT evaluation

Association Rules Mining Based Clinical Observations

Healthcare institutes enrich the repository of patients' disease related information in an increasing manner which could have been more useful by carrying out relational analysis. Data mining algorithms are proven to be quite useful in exploring useful correlations from larger data repositories. In this paper we have implemented Association Rules mining based a novel idea for finding co-occurrences of diseases carried by a patient using the healthcare repository. We have developed a system-prototype for Clinical State Correlation Prediction (CSCP) which extracts data from patients' healthcare database, transforms the OLTP data into a Data Warehouse by generating association rules. The CSCP system helps reveal relations among the diseases. The CSCP system predicts the correlation(s) among primary disease (the disease for which the patient visits the doctor) and secondary disease/s (which is/are other associated disease/s carried by the same patient having the primary disease).Comment: 5 pages, MEDINFO 2010, C. The developing field of integrated vehicle health management

The goals that are being set for aviation growth in the near future, combined with the growth in service provision, are unattainable without active health management of airplanes. Numbers associated with door to door travel time and accident rates, coupled with availability demands to provide cost-effective transport, simply do not allow time for unscheduled maintenance. We are therefore going to experience a step jump in the take up of Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) on these platforms in order to give accurate warning of sub-system and component degradation, allowing for maintenance to be carried out in a timely, scheduled, manner. This paper describes the development of IVHM, covering emerging services, standards, technology and IVHM as used in various industry sectors. This will lead to the commercial picture of today with the top level goals that are being set, providing the business push for technology and its adoption. Examples of research being conducted in the field will be shown, to support the claim that real progress is being made, with implementation of this technology on the horizon.http://www.aerojournalindia.com/journal.htm
