Background: SCOR is a worldwide accepted and renowned process reference model that is developed and endorsed by the non-profit organization Supply Chain Council. It’s a cross-industry diagnostic tool for supply chain management. Consafe Logistics wanted to know if a performance measurement system for warehouse activities could be developed based on the SCOR model, and how it could be applied in their organization to offer enhanced customer satisfaction. Research issue: Previously, there’s been no standardized model used to define warehouse metrics at Consafe Logistics. If more relevant and standardized metrics would be used, Consafe Logistics could arguably be more efficient, give better support to customers and consequently generate greater customer satisfaction. The research should investigate if the SCOR framework can be applied to the company’s services within warehouse management. Furthermore, Consafe Logistics would like to gain a comprehensive picture of what metrics their customers currently measure in order to identify if metrics from the SCOR portfolio are applicable. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a performance measurement system for warehouse activities; the system should be based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model. Method: The method used in this study was a combination of many elements. First a situation analysis were performed to clarify the initially vague information and to be able to construct the research issue, the purpose and the delimitations for this study. Then a literature study was conducted to make sure enough knowledge was gained about warehouse management, performance measurements and the SCOR model. The empirical data was gathered in a combinatory approach between a qualitative pre-study and a quantitative and qualitative web-based survey. The main purpose of the prestudy was to gain relevant and in depth information from practitioners. The survey was a broader investigation and thereby gave more opportunity for generalization. The information was then analyzed and a performance measurement system for warehouse activities was developed. Conclusions: This study has reached its purpose to develop a performance measurement system based on SCOR. A process model that focuses on the operational tasks within warehousing was designed. If Consafe Logistics implements this warehouse process model, a relevant set of metrics can be achieved for each customer. In this way Consafe Logistics could save a lot of resources in trying to figure out what clients want to measure

    Ecomspaces: Warehouse Workflow Optimization

Ecomspaces specializes in fulfillment services for e-commerce businesses, providing as a full-service provider for storage, shipping, and rental office space solutions. RelayShopUSA focuses on parcel forwarding services to both domestic and French international customers. The two services operate under the same roof and utilize near-identical resources. For the sake of simplicity, both services will be referenced throughout this document as Ecomspaces. Ecomspaces has been experiencing difficulty in accepting and handling a greater volume of clients due to infrastructure-related problems within their warehouse. Management is seeking the development of both scalable and sustainable systems to cut costs and achieve long-term growth for their operation. This summarizes the strategies that have been proposed and implemented by the Optimized Brain E-spaces team to benefit the overall warehouse operation through (1) the implementation of layout changes to optimize workflow and to regain floor space throughout the facility, (2) the standardization of the safety, housekeeping, and maintenance of the warehouse, (3) the development of accessible and robust key performance indicators and standard operating procedures necessary for process improvement. These goals have been accomplished through the collection and statistical analysis of time and motion study data, alongside raw historical data obtained from reports generated by Ecomspaces warehouse management systems. Several tools and methodologies have been utilized in this scenario which include (1) project management tools such as project charter, work breakdown structure, Gantt chart, financial planning/budgeting, and economic analysis, (2) Six Sigma tools such as pareto charts, process flowchart, critical to quality, key process indicators, cause and effect diagram, and the DMAIC process, and (3) traditional industrial and systems engineering tools such as time and motion studies, spaghetti diagram, and system modeling/simulation. Our team’s design proposal is based on the evaluation of both current-state and possible future-states of the warehouse through computer modeling with ARENA simulation. This information was supplemented with on-site visits to conduct interviews for management and employees, completed audits for OSHA requirements pertaining to warehouse safety and maintenance, and foundational understanding of the work-processes within the operation to develop baseline productivity levels and standard times for each station. Regarding our team’s three suggested facility layout changes, we recommend the implementation of our proposed solution A, involving the consolidation of oversized/palletized inventory to be placed adjacent to the wall between the receiving and loading docks, and to add a fourth shipping in the dock 2 area (not being utilized previously). This optimal solution was identified through TOPSIS analysis

The assignment for this thesis was to further develop OlapCon Oy’s financial reporting to include a customer-specific gross margin. The main objective of the assignment was to get the calculation of the gross margin to a reliable level and allocated to customers so that it could be used as support in making decisions that affect the business. In addition to customers, also other dimensions were included The first stage of the project was to develop a data warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 that included fact and dimension tables. Fact tables included calculated revenues and costs allocated to customers and other dimensions. Dimension tables included basic information about the dimensions like customer names. Another stage of the project was to develop a Business Intelligence solution which in this case was an OLAP-cube based on the data warehouse. IBM Cognos products were used in the Business Intelligence process. The result of this assignment was an OLAP-cube where gross margin was calculated based on the revenue and costs. Gross margin was allocated to customers and other required dimensions in the cube. The management can use the cube as a data source in multidimensional analysis with IBM Cognos Analysis Studio to make different reports. Some further development ideas for this project include expanding the data warehouse and OLAP-cube to include other important measures
