In order to enhance student satisfaction, many services have been provided in order to meet student needs. A recommendation system is a significant service which can be used to assist students in several ways. This paper proposes a conceptual framework of an Intelligent Recommendation System in order to support Student Relationship Management (SRM) for a Thai private university. This article proposed the system architecture of an Intelligent Recommendation System (IRS) which aims to assist students to choose an appropriate course for their studies. Moreover, this study intends to compare different data mining techniques in various recommendation systems and to determine appropriate algorithms for the proposed electronic Intelligent Recommendation System (IRS). The IRS also aims to support Student Relationship Management (SRM) in the university. The IRS has been designed using data mining and artificial intelligent techniques such as clustering, association rule and classification

The Information Technology world is developing so fast and it is been reported that Open Source tools will eventually take over proprietary tools in no to distant future. The Open Source Community is integrating its products with that of the proprietary ones and the integration of Windows machines into Linux network is evident of such practices. The purpose of this project is to implement Samba with OpenLDAP in a simulated environment. This implementation is conducted within a virtual environment by simulating the setup of Linux and Windows Operating systems by reducing physical setup of machines. Samba will act as an interface between Linux and Windows, files will be accessible to both server and client. OpenLDAP stores the user accounts and configuration files. A performance test carried out on Samba determining effect on CPU power and Memory usage shows a decrease in the CPU power and an increase in Memory usage

Directory services facilitate access to information organized under a variety of frameworks and applications. The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol is a promising technology that provides access to directory information using a data structure similar to that of the X.500 protocol. IBM Tivoli, Novell, Sun, Oracle, Microsoft, and many other vendor features LDAP-based implementations. The technology’s increasing popularity is due both to its flexibility and its compatibility with existing applications. A directory service is a searchable database repository that lets authorized users and services find information related to people, computers, network devices, and applications. Given the increasing need for information — particularly over the Internet — directory popularity has grown over the last decade and is now a common choice for distributed applications. Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) accommodates the need of high level of security, single sign-on, and centralized user management. This protocol offers security services and integrated directory with capability of storage management user information in a directory. Therefore at the same time the user can determine application, service, server to be accessed, and user privileges. It is necessary to realize files sharing between different operating systems in local area network. Samba software package, as the bridge across Windows and Linux, can help us resolve the problem. In this paper, we try to explore previous literature on this topic and also consider current authors work then come out with our views on the subject matter of discussion based on our understanding

This study aims to determine the acceptance of e-commerce among top management in Small and Medium Industries in Sabah from perspective behavioural intention to use e-commerce. E-commerce refers to the process of preparing, buying and selling information, products or services with the help of computer and telecommunications networks that use Internet technology for commercial purposes. The theory of this study was adapted from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by inserting the two independent variables and one dependent variable. Independent variables include the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. While the dependent variable is the behavioural intention to use e-commerce. Data obtained using a questionnaire instrumen involving 550 respondents consisting of senior management Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) in Sabah. However, only 281 received questionnaires completed and taken into account for analysis. Response rates were 51.1% of respondents. Analysis is performed using a descriptive test, correlation, regression and multiple regressions. Descriptive test is to determine the frequency and percentage of respondents profiles. Correlation test was to determine the relationship between two independent variables. While multiple regressions used to test the effect of the two independent variables on the dependent variable. Results of the study showed 37.4 percent of respondents have behavioural intention to use e-commerce. In addition, the perceived ease of use has significant relationship with the perception of usefulness. Multiple regression test results indicate that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have positive effect on behavioural intention to use e-commerce. Results of the study findings, several discussions and recommendations were put forward in this project paper

Cloud Computing and Internet of Things: Issues and Developments

    Get PDF
Cloud computing is a pervasive paradigm that is growing by the day. Various service types are gaining increased importance. Internet of things is a technology that is developing. It allows connectivity of both smart and dumb systems over the internet. Cloud computing will continue to be relevant to IoT because of scalable services available on the cloud. Cloud computing is the need for users to procure servers, storage, and applications. These services can be paid for and utilized using the various cloud service providers. Clearly, IoT which is expected to connect everything to everyone, requires not only connectivity but large storage that can be made available either through on-premise or off-premise cloud facility. On the other hand, events in the cloud and IoT are dynamic. This paper aims to provide an understanding of cloud and IoT. In addition, the paper discusses current trends in terms of industry activities. It also examines the prospects of cloud and IoT trends in cloud application management. This will be of benefit to prospective cloud users and even cloud providers

    From Models to Simulations

This book analyses the impact computerization has had on contemporary science and explains the origins, technical nature and epistemological consequences of the current decisive interplay between technology and science: an intertwining of formalism, computation, data acquisition, data and visualization and how these factors have led to the spread of simulation models since the 1950s. Using historical, comparative and interpretative case studies from a range of disciplines, with a particular emphasis on the case of plant studies, the author shows how and why computers, data treatment devices and programming languages have occasioned a gradual but irresistible and massive shift from mathematical models to computer simulations

Digital Ecosystem - A next generation of the collaborative environment

Abstract Digital ecosystems transcend the traditional, rigorously defined, collaborative environments from centralised, distributed or hybrid models into an open, flexible, domain cluster, demand-driven, interactive environment. A digital ecosystem is a new-networked architecture and collaborative environment that addresses the weakness of client-server, peer-to-peer, Grid and web services. In this keynote, we will provide a detailed explanation of digital ecosystems, their analogy to ecological systems, their scientific innovation, technical exploration including architecture, swarm intelligence, design and implementation, their comparison to existing networked architecture, social, cultural and economic impact the networked economy. We will also provide several practical examples as well as demonstration of swarm intelligence-based self-organised digital ecosystems
