Microelectronics Process Engineering at San Jose State University: A Manufacturing-Oriented Interdisciplinary Degree Program
San Jose State University\u27s new interdisciplinary curriculum in Microelectronics Process Engineering is described. This baccalaureate program emphasizes hands-on thin-film fabrication experience, manufacturing methods such as statistical process control, and fundamentals of materials science and semiconductor device physics. Each course of the core laboratory sequence integrates fabrication knowledge with process engineering and manufacturing methods. The curriculum development process relies on clearly defined and detailed program and course learning objectives. We also briefly discuss our strategy of making process engineering experiences accessible for all engineering students through both Lab Module and Statistics Module series
Adaptive digital signal processing Java teaching tool
This publication presents a JAVA program for teaching the rudiments of adaptive digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and techniques. Adaptive DSP is on of the most important areas of signal processsing, and provides the core algorithmic means to implement applications ranging from mobile telephone speech coding, to noise cancellation, to communication channel equalization. Over the last 30 years adaptive digital signal processing has progressed from being a strictly graduate level advanced class in signal processing theory to a topic that is part of the core curriculum for many undergraduate signal processing classes. The JAVA applet presented in this publication has been devised for students to use in combination with lecture notes and/or one of the recognised textbooks such that they can quickly and conveniently simulate algorithms such as the LMS (least mean squares), RLS (recursive least squares) and so on in a variety of applications without requiring to write programs or scripts or using any special purpose software. By the very nature of the JAVA code therefore, the applet can be run from any browser, even over a low bandwidth modem connection

An OpenSHMEM Implementation for the Adapteva Epiphany Coprocessor
This paper reports the implementation and performance evaluation of the
OpenSHMEM 1.3 specification for the Adapteva Epiphany architecture within the
Parallella single-board computer. The Epiphany architecture exhibits massive
many-core scalability with a physically compact 2D array of RISC CPU cores and
a fast network-on-chip (NoC). While fully capable of MPMD execution, the
physical topology and memory-mapped capabilities of the core and network
translate well to Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) programming models
and SPMD execution with SHMEM.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, OpenSHMEM 2016: Third workshop on OpenSHMEM and

The effect of core-shell engineering on the energy product of magnetic nanometals.
Solution-based growth of magnetic FePt-FeCo (core-shell) nanoparticles with a controllable shell thickness has been demonstrated. The transition from spin canting to exchange coupling of FePt-FeCo core-shell nanostructures leads to a 28% increase in the coercivity (12.8 KOe) and a two-fold enhancement in the energy product (9.11 MGOe)
The Craft of Incentive Prize Design: Lessons from the Public Sector
In the last five years, incentive prizes have transformed from an exotic open innovation tool to a proven innovation strategy for the public, private and philanthropic sectors. This report offers practical lessons for public sector leaders and their counterparts in the philanthropic and private sectors to help understand what types of outcomes incentive prizes help to achieve, what design elements prize designers use to create these challenges and how to make smart design choices to achieve a particular outcome. It synthesizes insights from expert interviews and analysis of more than 400 prize
