    Multipole Extraction: A novel, model independent method

    A novel method for extracting multipole amplitudes in the nucleon resonance region from electroproduction data is presented. The method is based on statistical concepts and it relies heavily on Monte Carlo and simulation techniques; it produces precise identification and determination of the contributing multipole amplitudes in the resonance region and for the first time a rigorous determination of the associated experimental uncertainty. The results are demonstrated to be independent of any model bias. The method is applied in the reanalysis of the Q2=0.127GeV2/c2Q^{2}=0.127 GeV^2/c^2 Bates and Mainz N→ΔN\to \Delta data.Comment: Proceedings, "Shape of Hadrons" Workshop, 27-29 April 2006, Athens, GREEC

    Visible Light Communications towards 5G

    5G networks have to offer extremely high capacity for novel streaming applications. One of the most promising approaches is to embed large numbers of co-operating small cells into the macro-cell coverage area. Alternatively, optical wireless based technologies can be adopted as an alternative physical layer offering higher data rates. Visible light communications (VLC) is an emerging technology for future high capacity communication links (it has been accepted to 5GPP) in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum (~370–780 nm) utilizing light-emitting diodes (LEDs) simultaneously provide data transmission and room illumination. A major challenge in VLC is the LED modulation bandwidths, which are limited to a few MHz. However, myriad gigabit speed transmission links have already been demonstrated. Non line-of-sight (NLOS) optical wireless is resistant to blocking by people and obstacles and is capable of adapting its’ throughput according to the current channel state information. Concurrently, organic polymer LEDs (PLEDs) have become the focus of enormous attention for solid-state lighting applications due to their advantages over conventional white LEDs such as ultra-low costs, low heating temperature, mechanical flexibility and large photoactive areas when produced with wet processing methods. This paper discusses development of such VLC links with a view to implementing ubiquitous broadcasting networks featuring advanced modulation formats such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or carrier-less amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) in conjunction with equalization techniques. Finally, this paper will also summarize the results of the European project ICT COST IC1101 OPTICWISE (Optical Wireless Communications - An Emerging Technology) dealing VLC and OLEDs towards 5G networks

    Magnetic resonance imaging is established as a recognizable tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of multiple sclerosis patients. In the present, among multiple sclerosis centers, there are different magnetic resonance imaging sequences and protocols used to study multiple sclerosis that may hamper the optimal use of magnetic resonance imaging in multiple sclerosis. In this context, the Group of Studies of Multiple Sclerosis and the Portuguese Society of Neuroradiology, after a joint discussion, appointed a committee of experts to create recommendations adapted to the national reality on the use of magnetic resonance imaging in multiple sclerosis.     A Specialized Dance/Movement Therapy Assessment and Proposed Plan for Addressing the Physical and Emotional Well-being of Line Workers

    This capstone thesis utilized qualitative methods to explore the experiences of National Grid linemen for the purposes of creating a dance/movement therapy warm-up. Information was gathered through individual meetings, where questions about participants’ physical, mental, and emotional health were discussed in relation to their specific occupation. From the information gathered, six themes were identified. To address the recognized issues, eight proposed warm-ups were created. The warm-ups, specifically crafted from participants’ firsthand accounts, are rooted in both Laban Movement Analysis principles and Bartineff Fundamentals. Sessions are intended to be run by a licensed dance/movement therapist at the beginning of each workday and would last for approximately 15 minutes. Future implications include further research, which would explore the effectiveness and perceived benefits of created sessions with line workers to further explore the benefits of dance/movement therapy with those who comprise this hard-working population
