DECORATIVE CONCRETE SURFACE DESIGN
Buildings are created as a result of the combination and interaction of
various materials. The appearance, finish, and plasticity of materials are
essential for providing a general impression. Each
material has a special formal language to be used by the designer. The form
of concrete/cast stone is determined by formwork. Plastic concrete can
take almost any shapes before solidification. Work with this material
requires the architect to have high-level professional skills and
imagination as well as self-control at the same time since this versatile
material has practically unlimited possibilities for use.
The design of decorative concrete surfaces involves the exploitation of both
the constructive (structural) features and the variations of shaping the
material. Surface structures - shiny/dull, smooth/coarse, rough/fine, just
to mention some of the endless line of variations - all depend on the
material concerned. These structures result from the interaction of
different materials or show certain components of the same type of material.
Structures may strengthen or weaken the formal language of buildings, but
they certainly interact with each other, determining the optical impression,
which can be further refined by using various colours. Surface embossment
endows fa\ccades with interesting light and shade effects.
Surface structures can also be created by the extraordinary shaping of
certain architectural details (e.g. joints). The selected component
structure should always harmonize with the immediate surroundings of the
building; and what is even more important, with the impact of urban design
SISTEM PENJUALAN IKAN HIAS PADA GALERI RAMA DAN RENA BERBASIS WEB
ABSTRACT : As technology advances today, especially in information systems, the use of computers has become a necessity in the business world and in daily life. The use of information systems for the process of recording sales data that functions to support buying and selling processes, analysis of information systems based on system development data based on promotional activities and sales data of decorative fish gallery, application design systems by adjusting the needs of users based on gallery promotion activities, sales data and results from interviews with the head of decorative fish gallery at Rama dan Rhena Shop, the results of the application design are applied in the design of the sales system application. From the design process to the implementation of the system that has been carried out the sales system of decorative fish gallery at Rama Dan Rhena Shop, the following conclusions can be drawn: a. Sales system of decorative fish gallery at Rama dan Rhena Shop has become a website application that can be accessed flexibly by both users and admins/campus parties, only with an internet connection. b. This sales information system of decorative fish gallery at Rama dan Rhena Shop can be used to record the purchase of stock products at Rama dan Rhena Shop. c. Discussion on Exhibition and Decorative Design of Museum
The work of museum exhibition and decorative design isa part of the important daily work of the museum, but also a relatively basic part. With the continuous development of China's economy, the museum has been promotedto devel-op, which enriches our lives and culture. However, with the development of society, the museum exhibition and decora-tion design has encountered a lot of problems with respect to actual construction. In general, attention to the museum exhibition and decorative design needs improving, including theoretical and practical aspects of construction. In order to further promote the construction of the museum, we need to optimize the relevant construction work of the muse-um. Next, I will combine my own practical activities to have a discussion from the point of view of the museum exhibi-tion and decorative design, hoping to have certain reference significance for relevant personnel
Taste and morality at Plymouth Grove: Elizabeth Gaskell’s home and its decoration
In 2010 Manchester Historic Buildings Trust appointed Crick Smith Conservation to analyse the paint and decorative finishes of the Gaskell’s House at 84 Plymouth Grove, Ardwick, Manchester. The purpose of this commission was to inform the Trust of the way that decorative surfaces were treated during the period of the Gaskell family occupancy and to make recommendations for the reinstatement of the decorative scheme. This article will examine Elizabeth Gaskell’s attitude towards taste and interior decoration and then explain how the techniques of architectural paint research can be used to establish an authoritative account of the decorative scheme implemented at Plymouth Grove during her lifetime. We will argue that this enhanced understanding of how Gaskell handled the decoration and furnishing of her home can contribute towards our understanding of the author’s life and work
Production and evaluation of (multimodal) answers to medical questions
This paper describes two experiments carried out to investigate the production and evaluation of multimodal answer presentations in the context of a medical question answering system. In a production experiment participants had to produce answers to different types of questions. The results show that about one in four produced answers using multiple media. In an evaluation experiment, users had to evaluate different types of multimodal answer presentations. Answers with an informative visual were evaluated as more informative and more attractive than answers with a mere illustrative visual
The 19th entury iron architecture of industrial buildings. A formal and constructive comparison between two case studies
The paper analyzes the features of the 19th century industrial architecture and the application of metallic structures combined with formal and architectural expressions that frequently concealed or mitigated their presence. The mix of engineering features for the
industrial purpose and familiar perceptions of the traditional architecture is one of the characteristics of this typology. The cases - both belonging to the mining industry of the 1800s - feature both the structural innovations in the use of metallic - masonry structures and formalism that recall the Eclectic and aesthetic motifs as a mean to enhance the industrial function and the technological expression. The metallic elements are in fact frequently employed in the most important sections of the buildings and testify the influences of both the technical advance of the constructive theories and the stylistic formulas that, although belonging
to a more aulic architecture, intensify the productivity and the performances. Finally a proposal of reuse for one of the case study aims to valorize the duplicity of the formal and the technological approach for this typology in order to give a new purpose to this symbol of the industrial epopee.Peer ReviewedPreprin
