    Video matching using DC-image and local features

    This paper presents a suggested framework for video matching based on local features extracted from the DCimage of MPEG compressed videos, without decompression. The relevant arguments and supporting evidences are discussed for developing video similarity techniques that works directly on compressed videos, without decompression, and especially utilising small size images. Two experiments are carried to support the above. The first is comparing between the DC-image and I-frame, in terms of matching performance and the corresponding computation complexity. The second experiment compares between using local features and global features in video matching, especially in the compressed domain and with the small size images. The results confirmed that the use of DC-image, despite its highly reduced size, is promising as it produces at least similar (if not better) matching precision, compared to the full I-frame. Also, using SIFT, as a local feature, outperforms precision of most of the standard global features. On the other hand, its computation complexity is relatively higher, but it is still within the realtime margin. There are also various optimisations that can be done to improve this computation complexity

    An automatic video quality (AVQ) metric system for evaluating the quality of processed video and deriving an estimate of a subjectively determined function called Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). The AVQ system has a blockiness metric, a streakiness metric, and a blurriness metric. The blockiness metric can be used to measure compression artifacts in processed video. The streakiness metric can be used to measure network artifacts in the processed video. It also can cause longer loading time. These conditions make it did not suitable to be applied in image catalogue approach via internet environment. With compression techniques, the image size can be reduced and the quality of the image is still guaranteed without much changes. This report is paying attention to one of the image compression technique using wavelet technology. Wavelet technology is much batter than any other image compression technique nowadays. As a result, the compressed images applied to a system called Map Online that used Internet-based Image Catalogue approach. This system allowed user to buy map online. User also can download the maps that had been bought besides using the searching the map. Map searching is based on several meaningful keywords. As a result, this system is expected to be used by Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM) in order to make the organization vision is implemented

In this perspective, several video watermarking approaches are proposed but, based on our knowledge, there is no method which verified the compromise between invisibility and robustness against all usual attacks. In our previous work, we proposed a new video watermarking approach based on feature region generated from mosaic frame and multi-frequential embedding. This approach allowed obtaining a good invisibility and robustness against the maximum of usual attacks. In our future work, we propose to optimize the choice of the region of interest by using crowdsourcing technique. The consumer can now benefit from hardware and software which was considered state-of-the-art several years ago. The advantages offered by the digital technologies are major but the same digital technology opens the door for unlimited piracy. Copying an analogue VCR tape was certainly possible and relatively easy, in spite of various forms of protection, but due to the analogue environment, the subsequent copies had an inherent loss in quality. This was a natural way of limiting the multiple copying of a video material. With digital technology, this barrier disappears, being possible to make as many copies as desired, without any loss in quality whatsoever. Digital watermarking is one of the best available tools for fighting this threat. The aim of the present work was to develop a digital watermarking system compliant with the recommendations drawn by the EBU, for video broadcast monitoring. Since the watermark can be inserted in either spatial domain or transform domain, this aspect was investigated and led to the conclusion that wavelet transform is one of the best solutions available. Since watermarking is not an easy task, especially considering the robustness under various attacks several techniques were employed in order to increase the capacity/robustness of the system: spread-spectrum and modulation techniques to cast the watermark, powerful error correction to protect the mark, human visual models to insert a robust mark and to ensure its invisibility. The combination of these methods led to a major improvement, but yet the system wasn't robust to several important geometrical attacks. In order to achieve this last milestone, the system uses two distinct watermarks: a spatial domain reference watermark and the main watermark embedded in the wavelet domain. By using this reference watermark and techniques specific to image registration, the system is able to determine the parameters of the attack and revert it. Once the attack was reverted, the main watermark is recovered. The final result is a high capacity, blind DWr-based video watermarking system, robust to a wide range of attacks.BBC Research & Developmen

    Aggregation signature for small object tracking

    Small object tracking becomes an increasingly important task, which however has been largely unexplored in computer vision. The great challenges stem from the facts that: 1) small objects show extreme vague and variable appearances, and 2) they tend to be lost easier as compared to normal-sized ones due to the shaking of lens. In this paper, we propose a novel aggregation signature suitable for small object tracking, especially aiming for the challenge of sudden and large drift. We make three-fold contributions in this work. First, technically, we propose a new descriptor, named aggregation signature, based on saliency, able to represent highly distinctive features for small objects. Second, theoretically, we prove that the proposed signature matches the foreground object more accurately with a high probability. Third, experimentally, the aggregation signature achieves a high performance on multiple datasets, outperforming the state-of-the-art methods by large margins. Moreover, we contribute with two newly collected benchmark datasets, i.e., small90 and small112, for visually small object tracking.
