Frequency Domain Hybrid-ARQ Chase Combining for Broadband MIMO CDMA Systems
In this paper, we consider high-speed wireless packet access using code
division multiple access (CDMA) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO).
Current wireless standards, such as high speed packet access (HSPA), have
adopted multi-code transmission and hybrid-automatic repeat request (ARQ) as
major technologies for delivering high data rates. The key technique in
hybrid-ARQ, is that erroneous data packets are kept in the receiver to
detect/decode retransmitted ones. This strategy is refereed to as packet
combining. In CDMA MIMO-based wireless packet access, multi-code transmission
suffers from severe performance degradation due to the loss of code
orthogonality caused by both interchip interference (ICI) and co-antenna
interference (CAI). This limitation results in large transmission delays when
an ARQ mechanism is used in the link layer. In this paper, we investigate
efficient minimum mean square error (MMSE) frequency domain equalization
(FDE)-based iterative (turbo) packet combining for cyclic prefix (CP)-CDMA MIMO
with Chase-type ARQ. We introduce two turbo packet combining schemes: i) In the
first scheme, namely "chip-level turbo packet combining", MMSE FDE and packet
combining are jointly performed at the chip-level. ii) In the second scheme,
namely "symbol-level turbo packet combining", chip-level MMSE FDE and
despreading are separately carried out for each transmission, then packet
combining is performed at the level of the soft demapper. The computational
complexity and memory requirements of both techniques are quite insensitive to
the ARQ delay, i.e., maximum number of ARQ rounds. The throughput is evaluated
for some representative antenna configurations and load factors to show the
gains offered by the proposed techniques.Comment: Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (Apr 2009
Alamouti OFDM/OQAM systems with time reversal technique
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing with Offset Quadrature Amplitude
Modulation (OFDM/OQAM) is a multicarrier modulation scheme that can be
considered as an alternative to the conventional Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM) with Cyclic Prefix (CP) for transmission over multipath
fading channels. In this paper, we investigate the combination of the OFDM/OQAM
with Alamouti system with Time Reversal (TR) technique. TR can be viewed as a
precoding scheme which can be combined with OFDM/OQAM and easily carried out in
a Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) context such as Alamouti system. We
present the simulation results of the performance of OFDM/OQAM system in SISO
case compared with the conventional CP-OFDM system and the performance of the
combination Alamouti OFDM/OQAM with TR compared to Alamouti CP-OFDM. The
performance is derived by computing the Bit Error Rate (BER) as a function of
the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
Space Frequency Codes from Spherical Codes
A new design method for high rate, fully diverse ('spherical') space
frequency codes for MIMO-OFDM systems is proposed, which works for arbitrary
numbers of antennas and subcarriers. The construction exploits a differential
geometric connection between spherical codes and space time codes. The former
are well studied e.g. in the context of optimal sequence design in CDMA
systems, while the latter serve as basic building blocks for space frequency
codes. In addition a decoding algorithm with moderate complexity is presented.
This is achieved by a lattice based construction of spherical codes, which
permits lattice decoding algorithms and thus offers a substantial reduction of
complexity.Comment: 5 pages. Final version for the 2005 IEEE International Symposium on

SGD Frequency-Domain Space-Frequency Semiblind Multiuser Receiver with an Adaptive Optimal Mixing Parameter
A novel stochastic gradient descent frequency-domain (FD) space-frequency (SF) semiblind multiuser receiver with an adaptive optimal mixing parameter is proposed to improve performance of FD semiblind multiuser receivers with a fixed mixing parameters and reduces computational complexity of suboptimal FD semiblind multiuser receivers in SFBC downlink MIMO MC-CDMA systems where various numbers of users exist. The receiver exploits an adaptive mixing parameter to mix information ratio between the training-based mode and the blind-based mode. Analytical results prove that the optimal mixing parameter value relies on power and number of active loaded users existing in the system. Computer simulation results show that when the mixing parameter is adapted closely to the optimal mixing parameter value, the performance of the receiver outperforms existing FD SF adaptive step-size (AS) LMS semiblind based with a fixed mixing parameter and conventional FD SF AS-LMS training-based multiuser receivers in the MSE, SER and signal to interference plus noise ratio in both static and dynamic environments
