    Get PDF
Purpose– Customization is a difficult task for many organizations implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new framework based on customers’ requirements to examine the ERP customization choices for the enterprise. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique has been applied complementarily with this framework to prioritize ERP customization choices. \ud \ud Design/methodology/approach– Based on empirical literature, the paper proposed an ERP customization framework anchored on the customer's requirements. A case study research method was used to evaluate the applicability of the framework in a real-life setting. In a case study with 15 practitioners working on the vendor's and the client's sides in an ERP implementation, the paper applied the framework jointly with the AHP technique to prioritize the feasible customization choices for ERP implementation. \ud \ud Findings– The paper demonstrates the applicability of the framework in identifying the various feasible choices for the client organization to consider when they decide to customize their selected ERP product. \ud \ud Research limitations/implications– Further case studies need to be carried out in various contexts to acquire knowledge about the generalizability of the observations. This will also contribute to refining the proposed ERP customization framework. \ud \ud Practical implications– Very few literature sources suggest methods for exploring and evaluating customization options in ERP projects from requirements engineering perspective. The proposed framework helps practitioners and consultants anchor the customization decisions on the customer's requirements and use a well-established prioritization technique, AHP, to identify the feasible customization choices for the implementing enterprise. \ud \ud Originality/value– No previously published research studies provide an approach to prioritize customization choices for ERP anchored on the customer's requirements

ERP-ORE: A Framework to Measure Organizational Risk during ERP Systems Evolution in a Distribution Business

    Get PDF
Enterprise Resource Planning systems evolution initiatives often represent the single largest investment (and therefore risk) for distribution corporations yet there exist few management frameworks in the literature to help decision makers measure risk during this organization-wide change process. We have customized our original ORE framework as a multi-criteria, relative risk, condition consequence management decision framework enabling executive decision makers in distribution businesses to calculate and compare risk evolution at fixed points of the ERP change cycle. The framework emphasizes the political and process dimensions of evolution and utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process to enable management to make structured and balanced risk mitigation decisions. This paper describes the development of ORE into ERP-ORE and illustrates the application of the framework through a case study description of a medical supplies distributor implementing an ERP system

Due to the complexity of modern industrial plants introduced by Industry 4.0, it has become increasingly difficult to manage physical assets maintenance without the support of a specialized information system, often referred to as Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). CMMS implementation brings several benefits such as cost reduction, increased productivity and better planning and scheduling. Nevertheless, selecting the most suitable one is not an easy task due to the large amount of CMMS available in the market. This paper presents a multicriteria decision-making method based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) applied for comparative evaluation of different CMMS alternatives. This method allows the evaluation of CMMS quality level based on a set of functional and non-functional features defined according to ISO/IEC 25010:2011 and distributed into a hierarchical structure of 5 criteria and 16 sub-criteria. This study shows the application of the proposed method in a synthetic foam production company, where it allowed a detailed comparison of three possible CMMS candidates and the selection of the most appropriate according to this organization' specific needs and requirements. It was observed that the differences in the global quality levels of the three CMMS alternatives were practically unnoticeable, requiring a cost-benefit analysis to complete the decision process. The method proposed has shown to be easily applied in an industrial context, leading to a reduction of the probability of failure often faced by organizations at the time of CMMS implementation. This work has been supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/2020

Supply Chain Management (SCM) has proven to be an effective tool that aids companies in the development of competitive advantages. SCM Systems are relied on to manage warehouses, transportation, trade logistics and various other issues concerning the coordinated movement of products and services from suppliers to customers. Although in today’s fast paced business environment, numerous supply chain solution tools are readily available to companies, choosing the right SCM software is not an easy task. The complexity of SCM systems creates a multifaceted issue when selecting the right software, particularly in light of the speed at which technology evolves. In this paper, we use the approach of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine which SCM software best meets the needs of a company. The AHP approach outlined in this paper can be easily transferred to the comparison of other SCM software packages

Nowadays, HR management is a vital element for any business area in the world. For large scale companies, having a central tool to execute and approve all personnel data changes (including hiring and transferring employees) allows them to easily keep data up to date and reduce costs; all of this by using a global standard process. The purpose of this dissertation is to prove how SAP HCM Processes & Forms (HCM P&F) can be used to create an interactive web application to manage all HR processes within a company (supporting any technology in the front-end) and how it compares to legacy applications that hold their own business logic instead of leveraging SAP ERP rules and functionalities. Consequently, this document will describe in detail an implementation of HCM P&F developed by Konkconsulting, to show how it stands out in comparison to other application models. This implementation is currently used by a multinational corporation and supports over 10 types of HR processes with 200 fields.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) adoption is very important for companies to sustain and stay competitive in market particularly to the organizations that involving from design to manufacturing. Many companies are struggling whether to adopt PLM because implementing PLM involves very extensive changes in intra and inter-organizational practices. PLM assessment is an important activity in the pre-implementation stage to determine the scope of implementation. However, the requirements and scope of implementation are always influenced by the users’ paradigm of “needs” instead of the company’s current PLM maturity level. This research covered the PLM assessment in using Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) focused in PLM technology components. The research was based on case study approach conducted in an Industrial Equipment company. The scope of assessment was to investigate the technology components in respect to data, process and methodology. The empirical results showed PLM technology components prioritization determined through the hierarchy analysis could provide more consistent output compared to user’s direct judgement. The authors argue that PLM assessment in technology components prioritization requires consideration of its maturity level because the outcomes provide a better guideline to define a strategic roadmap for PLM implementation
