    Deep Learning based Recommender System: A Survey and New Perspectives

    With the ever-growing volume of online information, recommender systems have been an effective strategy to overcome such information overload. The utility of recommender systems cannot be overstated, given its widespread adoption in many web applications, along with its potential impact to ameliorate many problems related to over-choice. In recent years, deep learning has garnered considerable interest in many research fields such as computer vision and natural language processing, owing not only to stellar performance but also the attractive property of learning feature representations from scratch. The influence of deep learning is also pervasive, recently demonstrating its effectiveness when applied to information retrieval and recommender systems research. Evidently, the field of deep learning in recommender system is flourishing. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of recent research efforts on deep learning based recommender systems. More concretely, we provide and devise a taxonomy of deep learning based recommendation models, along with providing a comprehensive summary of the state-of-the-art.     Enhancing cross domain recommendation with domain dependent tags

    © 2016 IEEE. One challenge in recommender system is to deal with data sparsity. To handle this issue, social tags are utilized to bring disjoint domains together for knowledge transfer in cross-domain recommendation. The most intuitive way is to use common tags that present in both source and target domains. However, it is difficult to obtain a strong domain connection by exploiting a small amount of common tags, especially when the tagging data in target domain is too scarce to share enough common tags with source domain. In this paper we propose a novel framework, called Enhanced Tag-induced Cross Domain Collaborative Filtering (ETagiCDCF), to integrate the rich information contained in domain dependent tags into recommendation procedure. We perform experiments on two public datasets and compare with several single and cross domain recommendation approaches, the results demonstrate that ETagiCDCF can effectively address data sparseness and improve recommendation performance

    A Survey on Cross-domain Recommendation: Taxonomies, Methods, and Future Directions

    Traditional recommendation systems are faced with two long-standing obstacles, namely, data sparsity and cold-start problems, which promote the emergence and development of Cross-Domain Recommendation (CDR). The core idea of CDR is to leverage information collected from other domains to alleviate the two problems in one domain. Over the last decade, many efforts have been engaged for cross-domain recommendation. Recently, with the development of deep learning and neural networks, a large number of methods have emerged. However, there is a limited number of systematic surveys on CDR, especially regarding the latest proposed methods as well as the recommendation scenarios and recommendation tasks they address. In this survey paper, we first proposed a two-level taxonomy of cross-domain recommendation which classifies different recommendation scenarios and recommendation tasks. We then introduce and summarize existing cross-domain recommendation approaches under different recommendation scenarios in a structured manner. We also organize datasets commonly used. We conclude this survey by providing several potential research directions about this field
