    The Six Pillars of Knowledge Economics

    The purpose of this paper is to extend our earlier work on the contributions to the mini-track on Knowledge Economics at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). In the present work, we analyze 16 contributions from 2012 to 2016 and based on our analysis, we propose the Six Pillars of Knowledge Economics framework. The proposed framework articulates that six elements are essential to generate knowledge outputs: Innovation Capability, Leadership, Human Capital, Information Technology Resources, Financial Resources, and Innovation Climate. Additional major findings are that organizations are the most common unit of analysis, while the individual level is hardly considered. Journals represent the major source of citations. Conference proceedings were less cited, though more current. We recommend major conferences to be indexed by services like Scopus and provide open access to peer-reviewed proceedings

    Social media and emerging mobile technologies have forever changed the landscape of human interaction. Furthermore, they already play a pivotal role also in enterprises as a part of the organisational Knowledge Management System. Almost all large organisations have already implemented at least one Enterprise Social Media tool since they enable collaboration, provide easy access to information, and are available at reasonable costs. The effects of the decoupling of the real and the virtual world (as a result of Social Media use) on the construct knowledge and on knowledge management are still not sufficiently investigated. Against this background, the paper presents an exploratory approach of the development of a specific morphological tableau as an instrument for the analysis of employees’ behavior in context of knowledge management related ESM use. Furthermore, the application of the tableau is exemplary illustrated and further research steps are explained

    Enterprise Content Management - A Literature Review

    Managing information and content on an enterprise-wide scale is challenging. Enterprise content management (ECM) can be considered as an integrated approach to information management. While this concept received much attention from practitioners, ECM research is still an emerging field of IS research. Most authors that deal with ECM claim that there is little scholarly literature available. After approximately one decade of ECM research, this paper provides an in-depth review of the body of academic research: the ECM domain, its evolution, and main topics are characterized. An established ECM research framework is adopted, refined, and explained with its associated elements and working definitions. On this basis, 68 articles are reviewed, classified, and concepts are derived. Prior research is synthesized and findings are integrated in a concept-centric way.     The present state of world economy urges managers to look for new methods, which can help to start the economic growth. To achieve this goal, managers use standard as well as new procedures. The fundamental prerequisite of the efficient decision-making processes are actual and right information. Managers need to monitor past information and current actual information to generate trends of future development based on it. Managers always should define strictly what do they want to know, how do they want to see it and for what purpose do they want to use it. Only in this case they can get right information applicable to efficient decision-making. Generally, managers´ decisions should lead to make the customers´ decision-making process easier. More frequently than ever, companies use e-commerce systems for the support of their business activities. In connection with the present state and future development, cross-border online shopping growth can be expected. To support this, companies will need much better systems providing the managers adequate and sufficient information. This type of information, which is usually multidimensional, can be provided by the Business Intelligence (BI) technologies. Besides special BI systems, some of BI technologies are obtained in quite a few of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. One of the crucial questions is whether should companies and firms buy or develop special BI software, or whether they can use BI tools contained in some ERP systems. In respect of this, there is a question if the modern ERP systems can provide the managers sufficient possibilities relating to ad-hoc reporting, static and dynamic reports and OLAP analyses. A one of the main goals of this article is to show and verify Business Intelligence tools of Microsoft Dynamics NAV for the support of decision-making in terms of the cross-border online purchasing. Pursuant to above-mentioned, in this article authors deal with problems relating to managers´ decision-making, customers´ decision-making and a support of its using the BI tools contained in ERP system Microsoft Dynamics NAV.     Where is the Wisdom We Have Lost in Technology?

    Wisdom has been at the heart of practical, philosophical, and theological interest since antiquity but is now attracting interdisciplinary scientific interest from academic researchers in diverse disciplines. Practical wisdom is important from the IS perspective because we have built information tools and technologies that can harm or benefit us in various ways and it is important that we understand the implications of these technologies. The purpose of this panel is to start and stimulate conversations with the IS community on a broad array of individual, organizational and societal issues at the intersection of wisdom and technology. The hope is to take the first steps to bring together disparate notions on wisdom in an IS context and to explore new frameworks to advance research in this emerging area representing wisdom-based IS. Broadly, this panel will explore topics relating to extending knowledge management concepts for wisdom; making meaningful distinctions between knowledge, wisdom, ethics, and other related concepts in the context of information systems teaching, research, and practice; the design, management, use, and implications of technologies for consciously discovering, creating, sharing, and supporting wisdom in individuals, organizations, and societies; interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary understanding of the nature of wisdom in a technology-driven world; and mindful living with and connected by technologies for personal, professional, and societal well-being
