Rooted Elements A Kinesthetic Approach Connecting Our Children to Their Inner and Outer World

    Get PDF
Rooted Elements is a thematic naturalistic guide for classroom teachers to design engaging lessons focused in the earth elements. It serves as a tool to pick out emotional or physical struggles for individuals or whole groups as they relate to the element characteristics. The practice is then designed around earth, water, fire or air qualities while teaching about a specific theme and what can be learned from that topic. The lessons are all geared towards an open space without desks and can be used with all students including students struggling with behavioral and/or academic challenges who need interventions. Rooted Elements is practical and easy to use. It provides a base for teachers to spark inspiration and creativity with hundreds of engaging games and activities flowing from places of stillness to high energy. This curriculum teaches children ways to reduce anxiety and stress while building self-confidence and a sense of well-being. It is geared towards creating positive relationships with ourselves and our environment. The focus embodies being part of a whole intricate process and not separating ourselves from the web of life. The lessons are directed with an intention of listening and learning from the plants, animals and natural phenomena that surround us because our world will teach us everything we need to know if we allow it. The principles of Rooted Elements are centered in an eclectic yoga philosophy including the earth elements, animal totems and Reiki. A basic lesson format wheel and lesson outline is provided with several ideas to fill in the blanks, which allows the teacher to create a meaningful practice driven by intention and categorized by element features. Sample lessons are provided to exemplify the basic concept of the program. Rooted Elements fosters respect, coordination, and self-confidence while nourishing the mind, body and spirit

A Study of Overseas Construction of China National Image in Architecture Writing of Lin Yutang

    Get PDF
Lin Yutang’s writing of Chinese architecture in My Country and My People is a short chapter, but it reflects his unique studies into Chinese personality and national spirit. Through the study of Lin Yutang’s architectural writing, we can see the Chinese national spirit and image overseas. Many scholars have studied My Country and My People from different dimensions. However, literary writing of Chinese architrave hasn’t been conducted so much since the popularity of Fan Zhongyan’s Notes of Yueyang Tower. And therefore Lin’s writing is conceived to be of high significance through which the Chinese personality has been analyzed thorougly. By conparison and contrast, based on the thoughts of Chinese sages, this paper aims to (1) analyze the marrow of Chinese national spirit through Lin Yutang’s architectural writing and (2) argue how Lin Yutang through his particular English expression of architecture has successfully delivered the image of China overseas, which has thus exerted a far-reaching impact on its overseas transmission. Through exploration and interpretation of Lin Yutan’s writing, the authors aim to excavate Lin’s appropriate in-depth interpretation of Chinese spirit embedded in Chinese architecture abroad in order to modify certain misunderstandings and mistaken cognition with the expectation to gain deeper comprehension of Chinese spirit internationally

Informed microarchitecture design space exploration using workload dynamics

    Get PDF
Program runtime characteristics exhibit significant variation. As microprocessor architectures become more complex, their efficiency depends on the capability of adapting with workload dynamics. Moreover, with the approaching billion-transistor microprocessor era, it is not always economical or feasible to design processors with thermal cooling and reliability redundancy capabilities that target an application’s worst case scenario. Therefore, analyzing complex workload dynamics early, at the microarchitecture design stage, is crucial to forecast workload runtime behavior across architecture design alternatives and evaluate the efficiency of workload scenariobased architecture optimizations. Existing methods focus exclusively on predicting aggregated workload behavior. In this paper, we propose accurate and efficient techniques and models to reason about workload dynamics across the microarchitecture design space without using detailed cyclelevel simulations. Our proposed techniques employ waveletbased multiresolution decomposition and neural network based non-linear regression modeling. We extensively evaluate the efficiency of our predictive models in forecasting performance, power and reliability domain workload dynamics that the SPEC CPU 2000 benchmarks manifest on high-performance microprocessors with a microarchitecture design space that consists of 9 key parameters. Our results show that the models achieve high accuracy in revealing workload dynamic behavior across a large microarchitecture design space. We also demonstrate that the proposed techniques can be used to efficiently explore workload scenario-driven architecture optimizations. 1
