Stochastic Timed Games Revisited
Stochastic timed games (STGs), introduced by Bouyer and Forejt, naturally generalize both continuous-time Markov chains and timed automata by providing a partition of the locations between those controlled by two players (Player Box and Player Diamond) with competing objectives and those governed by stochastic laws. Depending on the number of players - 2, 1, or 0 - subclasses of stochastic timed games are often classified as 2 1/2-player, 1 1/2-player, and 1/2-player games where the 1/2 symbolizes the presence of the stochastic "nature" player. For STGs with reachability objectives it is known that 1 1/2-player one-clock STGs are decidable for qualitative objectives, and that 2 1/2-player three-clock STGs are undecidable for quantitative reachability objectives. This paper further refines the gap in this decidability spectrum. We show that quantitative reachability objectives are already undecidable for 1 1/2 player four-clock STGs, and even under the time-bounded restriction for 2 1/2-player five-clock STGs. We also obtain a class of 1 1/2, 2 1/2 player STGs for which the quantitative reachability problem is decidable
MeGARA: Menu-based Game Abstraction and Abstraction Refinement of Markov Automata
Markov automata combine continuous time, probabilistic transitions, and
nondeterminism in a single model. They represent an important and powerful way
to model a wide range of complex real-life systems. However, such models tend
to be large and difficult to handle, making abstraction and abstraction
refinement necessary. In this paper we present an abstraction and abstraction
refinement technique for Markov automata, based on the game-based and
menu-based abstraction of probabilistic automata. First experiments show that a

Compositional Verification and Optimization of Interactive Markov Chains
Interactive Markov chains (IMC) are compositional behavioural models
extending labelled transition systems and continuous-time Markov chains. We
provide a framework and algorithms for compositional verification and
optimization of IMC with respect to time-bounded properties. Firstly, we give a
specification formalism for IMC. Secondly, given a time-bounded property, an
IMC component and the assumption that its unknown environment satisfies a given
specification, we synthesize a scheduler for the component optimizing the
probability that the property is satisfied in any such environment
Different Approaches on Stochastic Reachability as an Optimal Stopping Problem
Reachability analysis is the core of model checking of time systems. For
stochastic hybrid systems, this safety verification method is very little supported mainly
because of complexity and difficulty of the associated mathematical problems. In this
paper, we develop two main directions of studying stochastic reachability as an optimal
stopping problem. The first approach studies the hypotheses for the dynamic programming
corresponding with the optimal stopping problem for stochastic hybrid systems.
In the second approach, we investigate the reachability problem considering approximations
of stochastic hybrid systems. The main difficulty arises when we have to prove the
convergence of the value functions of the approximating processes to the value function
of the initial process. An original proof is provided
Hypergraph conditions for the solvability of the ergodic equation for zero-sum games
The ergodic equation is a basic tool in the study of mean-payoff stochastic
games. Its solvability entails that the mean payoff is independent of the
initial state. Moreover, optimal stationary strategies are readily obtained
from its solution. In this paper, we give a general sufficient condition for
the solvability of the ergodic equation, for a game with finite state space but
arbitrary action spaces. This condition involves a pair of directed hypergraphs
depending only on the ``growth at infinity'' of the Shapley operator of the
game. This refines a recent result of the authors which only applied to games
with bounded payments, as well as earlier nonlinear fixed point results for

Maximal Cost-Bounded Reachability Probability on Continuous-Time Markov Decision Processes
In this paper, we consider multi-dimensional maximal cost-bounded
reachability probability over continuous-time Markov decision processes
(CTMDPs). Our major contributions are as follows. Firstly, we derive an
integral characterization which states that the maximal cost-bounded
reachability probability function is the least fixed point of a system of
integral equations. Secondly, we prove that the maximal cost-bounded
reachability probability can be attained by a measurable deterministic
cost-positional scheduler. Thirdly, we provide a numerical approximation
algorithm for maximal cost-bounded reachability probability. We present these
results under the setting of both early and late schedulers
