    Line-of-sight-stabilization and tracking control for inertial platforms

    Nowadays, line of sight stabilization and tracking using inertially stabilized platforms (ISPs) are still challenging engineering problems. With a growing demand for high-precision applications, more involved control techniques are necessary to achieve better performance. In this work, kinematic and dynamic models for a three degrees-of-freedom ISP are presented. These models are based in the vehicle-manipulator system (VMS) framework for modeling of robot manipulators operating in a mobile base (vehicles). The dynamic model follows the Euler-Lagrange formulation and is implemented by numeric simulations using the iterative Newton-Euler method. Two distinct control strategies for both stabilization and tracking are proposed: (i) computed torque control and (ii) sliding mode control using the recent SuperTwisting Algorithm (STA) combined with a High-Order Sliding Mode Observer (HOSMO). Simulations using data from a simulated vessel allow us to compare the performance of the computed torque controllers with respect to the commonly used P-PI controller. Besides, the results obtained for the sliding mode controllers indicate that the Super-Twisting algorithm offers ideal robustness to the vehicle motion disturbances and also to parametric uncertainties, resulting in a stabilization precision of approximately 0,8 mrad.Hoje em dia, a estabilização e o rastreamento da linha de visada utilizando plataformas inerciais continuam a constituir desafiadores problemas de engenharia. Com a crescente demanda por aplicações de alta precisão, técnicas de controle complexas são necessárias para atingir melhor desempenho. Neste trabalho, modelos cinemáticos e dinâmicos para uma plataforma mecânica de estabilização inercial são apresentados. Tais modelos se baseiam no formalismo para sistemas veículo-manipulator para a modelagem de manipuladores robóticos operando em uma base móvel (veículo). O modelo dinâmico apresentado segue a formulação analítica de Euler-Lagrange e é implementado em simulações numéricas através do método iterativo de Newton-Euler. Duas estratégias de controle distintas para estabilização e rastreamento são propostas: (i) controle por torque-computado e (ii) controle por modos deslizantes utilizando o recente algoritmo Super-Twisting combinado com um observador baseado em modos deslizantes de alta ordem. Simulações utilizando dados de movimentação de um navio simulado permitem comparar o desempenho dos controladores por torque computado em relação a um tipo comum de controlador linear utilizado na literatura: o P-PI. Além disso, os resultados obtidos para o controle por modos deslizantes permitem concluir que o algoritmo Super-Twisting apresenta rejeição ideal a perturbações provenientes do movimento do veículo e também a incertezas paramétricas, resultando em precisão de estabilização de aproximadamente 0,8 mrad

    New robust bounded control for uncertain nonlinear system using mixed backstepping and lyapunov redesign

    This paper presents a new robust bounded control law to stabilize uncertain nonlinear system with time varying disturbance. The design idea comes from the advantages of backstepping with Lyapunov redesign, which avoid the needs of fast switching of discontinuous control law offered by its counterpart - a variable structure control. We reduce the conservatism in the design process where the control law can be flexibly chosen from Lyapunov function, hence avoiding the use of convex optimization via linear matrix inequality (LMI) in which the feasibility is rather hard to be obtained. For this work, we design two type control algorithms namely normal control and bounded control. As such, our contribution is the introduction of a new bounded control law that can avoid excessive control energy, high magnitude chattering in control signal and small oscillation in stabilized states. Computation of total energy for both control laws confirmed that the bounded control law can stabilize with less enegry consumption. We also use Euler's approximation to compute average power for both control laws. The robustness of the proposed controller is achieved via saturation-like function in Lyapunov redesign, and hence guaranting asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system

    Fixed-time rendezvous control of spacecraft with a tumbling target under loss of actuator effectiveness

    This paper investigates the fixed-time fault-tolerant control problem of spacecraft rendezvous and docking with a freely tumbling target in the presence of external disturbance and thruster faults. More specifically, based on the attitude of the target spacecraft, a line-of-sight coordinate frame is defined first, and the dynamical equations relative to the tumbling target are derived to describe the relative position (not six degrees of freedom). Then two fixed-time position controllers are proposed to guarantee that the closed-loop system is stable in finite time in the sense of a fixed-time concept, even in the presence of simultaneous external disturbance and thruster faults. Numerical simulations illustrate that the chaser spacecraft can successfully perform the rendezvous using the proposed controllers

    Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Linear Sampled Data Systems and a Class of Nonlinear Systems

    This thesis deals with the fault diagnosis design problem both for dynamical continuous time systems whose output signal are affected by fixed point quantization,\ud referred as sampled-data systems, and for two different applications whose dynamics are inherent high nonlinear: a remotely operated underwater vehicle and a scramjet-powered hypersonic vehicle.\ud Robustness is a crucial issue. In sampled-data systems, full decoupling of disturbance terms from faulty signals becomes more difficult after discretization.\ud In nonlinear processes, due to hard nonlinearity or the inefficiency of linearization, the “classical” linear fault detection and isolation and fault tolerant control methods may not be applied.\ud Some observer-based fault detection and fault tolerant control techniques are studied throughout the thesis, and the effectiveness of such methods are validated with simulations. The most challenging trade-off is to increase sensitivity to faults and robustness to other unknown inputs, like disturbances. Broadly speaking, fault detection filters are designed in order to generate analytical diagnosis functions, called residuals, which should be independent with respect to the system operating state and should be decoupled from disturbances. Decisions on the occurrence of a possible fault are therefore taken on the basis such residual signals

    Decentralized Output Sliding-Mode Fault-Tolerant Control for Heterogeneous Multiagent Systems

    This paper proposes a novel decentralized output sliding-mode fault-tolerant control (FTC) design for heterogeneous multiagent systems (MASs) with matched disturbances, unmatched nonlinear interactions, and actuator faults. The respective iteration and iteration-free algorithms in the sliding-mode FTC scheme are designed with adaptive upper bounding laws to automatically compensate the matched and unmatched components. Then, a continuous fault-tolerant protocol in the observer-based integral sliding-mode design is developed to guarantee the asymptotic stability of MASs and the ultimate boundedness of the estimation errors. Simulation results validate the efficiency of the proposed FTC algorithm
