How to promote knowledge sharing in cross-functional NPD teams
This paper investigates the common issues that may arise in cross-functional new product development (NPD) teams from a Knowledge Management perspective. The study has been built around a contextualized trigger, where several factors were preventing a new-born NPD team from performing effectively. The purpose of this paper is to give insights of the main dynamics involved in the knowledge sharing process throughout the application of a systematic problem-solving approach to the case investigated by the authors. Due to the impossibility of building a universal recipe suitable for every team in every situation, this work represents a compromise trying to exemplify how to prioritise interventions in a given context, in order to provide a benchmark for similar circumstances. This paper, using an action research method within a single case context, takes shape around the advises and suggestions made by authors to Electronic Connected Ltd (disguised name), a small-medium enterprise (SME) in a situation of NPD paralysis. In particular, the paper emphasizes the importance of effective leadership and supporting environment in facilitating communication, enhancing cohesiveness, fostering joint commitment and giving direction in order to enable knowledge sharing and to leverage capabilities to conclusively deliver new products
New trends in education: the use of ICT in different ways
In the 21st century and due to the exponential growth of the Internet and Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT), people live in a technological age, in all areas and in all contexts, we have daily
contact with technology, with access to Information. This dynamic requires a constant update of the
services and technological tools that change the method that we study, work, communicate and socialize
on an unprecedented scale. These constant changes force everyone, regardless of age, gender or
profession, to possess a range of functional and critical thinking skills, such as information literacy,
media literacy and technological literacy. The evolution of technologies, forces the promoters of
education, to always be aware of the changes that society is introducing outside the classroom. Today,
students don't have the same pattern as before, regardless of age, they are very active and are no
longer the same introverted child who studied a few years ago in the classroom. According to this,
students are eager for different forms of motivation inside and outside the classroom, they need the
learning and teaching process to move along with changes in society and ICT. To ensure the success
of today's students, it is important to provide them with the technological skills to make the correct use
of ICTs, to perform tasks essential to their learning process, such as researching and selecting
information, creating content, information sharing, use of collaboration tools or environment simulation
tools. The main objective of this chapter is to show how ICT tools that can be used in educational
environments to help students, helping them develop key skills in their training process, is also relevant
to show how these tools can help teachers achieve these goals in daily activities with their students
Valorificarea capitalului intelectual - criteriu pentru performanta manageriala in societatea bazata pe cunoastere
If we can see the knowledge society as an essential part of the âexternal environmentâ of the firm management, that brings with it some specific opportunities and threats, we have to consider the intellectual capital â that integrates the two basic resources: knowledge and human â a key ingredient for the âinternal environmentâ of the firm management, which determines some strengths and/or weaknesses that lead to the success or the failure of the managerial effort of the firm operating under the circumstances given by the emergency of three processes with global spread: the economic globalization, the managerial revolution and the knowledge-based society. Having as starting point the premise that Peter Drucker emphasized years ago: the managerial revolution represents the third essential change into the dynamics of knowledge, when knowledge is applied to knowledge itself, we have to accept the priority of the human factor â which generates, uses and valorizes knowledge in a never ending process of interaction with the environment. By continuing with this logic, we can not ignore that, even if there is no unanimously recognized approach about the meaning of the intellectual capital, it appears recently a quasi-unanimous recognized opinion regarding the first place that the intellectual capital has to take as source for the competitive advantage of the firm and strategic resource for its management. More than that, in a time when knowledge becomes the strategic resource for any of the human activities, firms shift through a new managerial paradigm that characterize âthe civilized businessâ and promote management intellectualization. The development of absorptive capacity-based innovation in a construction SME
Traditionally, construction has been a transaction-oriented industry. However, it is changing from the design-bid-build process into a business based on innovation capability and performance management, in which contracts are awarded on the basis of factors such as knowledge, intellectual capital and skills. This change presents a challenge to construction-sector SMEs with scarce resources, which must find ways to innovate based on those attributes to ensure their future competitiveness. This paper explores how dynamic capability, using an absorptive capacity framework in response to these challenges, has been developed in a construction-based SME. The paper also contributes to the literature on absorptive capacity and innovation by showing how the construct can be operationalized within an organization. The company studied formed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership using action research over a two-year period with a local university. The aim was to increase its absorptive capacity and hence its ability to meet the changing market challenges. The findings show that absorptive capacity can be operationalized into a change management approach for improving capability-based competitiveness. Moreover, it is important for absorptive capacity constructs and language to be contextualized within a given organizational setting (as in the case of the construction-based SME in the present study)
A Multi-Dimensional View Of Socio-Technical Information Systems Research And Technochange
Technical change is almost always the catalyst for organization change. Technochange is the use of information technology to drive improvements in organizational performance. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to continue the movement from socio-technical thinking to technochange thinking by analyzing the socio-technical research on information technology projects from different viewpoints. This is accomplished by using a multi-dimensional framework that delivers a fresh research perspective into the information technology, human and organization aspects of technochange. The results are a socio-technochange conceptual frame for the types of statistical analysis employed, the level of analysis conducted, the logical relationships between the causes and the outcomes, and the impact on the organization. This provides a coherent synopsis of the tools and interpretations needed to give us sufficient background to better understand technochange and its relationship to improved organizational performance
Internet of things security implementation using blockchain for wireless technology
Blockchain is a new security system which group many data into a block or so called classifying the data into a block. The block can have many types and each of them content data and security code. By using a decentralize mechanism, one security code protect all the data. That could happen at the server. In this research, a network of wireless sensor technology is proposed. The transmission of sensor data is via the Internet of things (Internet of Thing) technology. As many data transmitted, they have to classified and group them into a block. All the blocks are then send to the central processing unit, like a microcontroller. The block of data is then processed, identified and encrypted before send over the internet network. At the receiver, a GUI or Apps is developed to open and view the data. The Apps or GUI have an encrypted data or security code. User must key in the password before they can view the data. The password used by the end user at the Apps or GUI must be equivalent to the one encrypted at the sensor nodes. This is to satisfy the decentralized concept used in the Blockchain. To demonstrate the Blockchain technology applied to the wireless sensor network, a MATLAB Simulink function is used. The expected results should show a number of block of data in cryptography manner and chain together. The two set of data. Both have the data encrypted using hash. The black dots indicate the data has been encrypted whereas the white dot indicate indicates the data is not encrypted. The half white and half black indicates the data is in progress of encrypted. All this data should arrange in cryptography order and chain together in a vertical line. A protocol called block and chain group the data into the block and then chain then. The data appears in the blocks and send over the network. As seen in the simulation results, the yellow color represents the user data. This data has a default amplitude as 1 or 5. The data is chained and blocked to produce the Blockchain waveform

Perspectives on reusing codified project knowledge: a structured literature review
Project documentation represents a valuable source of knowledge in project-based organizations. The practical reality is, however, that the knowledge codified in project documents is hardly re-used in future projects. A central problem in this context is the extensive amount of usually textual material. As a consequence, computer-assisted processes are indispensable in order to analytically manage the constantly growing and evolving databases of available project documents. The goal of this study is to summarize the current research focusing on the computer-assisted reuse of textually codified project knowledge and to define the corresponding state-of-the-art in this this specific field of information systems research. As a result of a literature review, this study structures the body of research contributions and outlines what kinds of computer-assisted techniques are incorporated, what practical application areas these solutions address, and in what business domains they are applied. In particular, this should point out research opportunities and thereby make a contribution to the further development of knowledge management in project environments
