Contextualization: no passing fad

Originally prepared for an international conference on the churches and China attended by Chinese patriotic Christians, this paper focuses on the processes of indigenization and contextualization. Asian discussions of these processes are related to two Canadian illustrations: the development of indigenous structures by the Lutheran church in America-Canada Section; and the struggle of Canada\u27s northern natives to preserve their past and to shape their future in the face of a proposed pipeline across their land. Asian and feminist conclusions are affirmed: contextualization is the way towards, rather than a threat to, catholicity, universality and transcendence

Goal-based self-contextualization

Abstract. System self-contextualizability is the system ability to autonomously adapt its behavior to the uncontrollable relevant context to keep its objectives satisfied. Self-contextualizable system must have alternative behaviors each fitting to a set of contexts. We propose to start considering context at the level of requirements engineering, adopting Tropos goal model to express requirements and complementing it with our proposed context analysis. We define variation points on goal model where a context-based decision might need to be taken, and propose constructs to analyze context. While goal analysis provides constructs to hierarchically analyze goals and discover alternative sets of tasks to be executed to satisfy a goal, our proposed context analysis provides constructs to hierarchically analyze context and discover alternative sets of facts to be monitored to verify a context.

ACE’s Contextualization for Healthcare Workers

There is a well-established causative relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and pathology. Despite strong supporting evidence, some healthcare workers are unaware of how deep this relationship is. Strategic Design through Brand Contextualization

Providing meaningful customer experience is at the core of any successful business activity. Brands can function as vehicles to bundle the ingredients of experience together and give them structure by which consumers are able to understand and interpret products and services. To complement the technical and functional reality and experience, brands create particular narratives around products and services, within the realm of their use experience. This paper aims to contribute to understanding of strategic design and brand contextualization by looking thoroughly into a research-driven student project. The product-service design assignment given to seven teams of four to five post-graduate students was to design a new bike-sharing system, serving the sustainable urban mobility needs of the city of Gothenburg in Sweden. The task was accompanied by a request to create a fictive brand case and specific brand narrative, based on a thorough analysis of pre-selected existing brands. The paper discusses how the teams crafted their brand narratives and how different design and service elements were used to create specific and meaningful brand experiences. In addition to the contribution of the paper to design research and practice, we present a process that might be more widely useful for the education of strategic design and brand management

Embedding Quantum into Classical: Contextualization vs Conditionalization

We compare two approaches to embedding joint distributions of random variables recorded under different conditions (such as spins of entangled particles for different settings) into the framework of classical, Kolmogorovian probability theory. In the contextualization approach each random variable is "automatically" labeled by all conditions under which it is recorded, and the random variables across a set of mutually exclusive conditions are probabilistically coupled (imposed a joint distribution upon). Analysis of all possible probabilistic couplings for a given set of random variables allows one to characterize various relations between their separate distributions (such as Bell-type inequalities or quantum-mechanical constraints). In the conditionalization approach one considers the conditions under which the random variables are recorded as if they were values of another random variable, so that the observed distributions are interpreted as conditional ones. This approach is uninformative with respect to relations between the distributions observed under different conditions, because any set of such distributions is compatible with any distribution assigned to the conditions.Comment: PLoS One 9(3): e92818 (2014
