A comparative survey of integrated learning systems
This paper presents the duction framework for unifying the three basic forms of inference - deduction, abduction, and induction - by specifying the possible relationships and influences among them in the context of integrated learning. Special assumptive forms of inference are defined that extend the use of these inference methods, and the properties of these forms are explored. A comparison to a related inference-based learning frame work is made. Finally several existing integrated learning programs are examined in the perspective of the duction framework
An Editor for Helping Novices to Learn Standard ML
This paper describes a novel editor intended as an aid in the learning of the functional programming language Standard ML. A common technique used by novices is programming by analogy whereby students refer to similar programs that they have written before or have seen in the course literature and use these programs as a basis to write a new program. We present a novel editor for ML which supports programming by analogy by providing a collection of editing commands that transform old programs into new ones. Each command makes changes to an isolated part of the program. These changes are propagated to the rest of the program using analogical techniques. We observed a group of novice ML students to determine the most common programming errors in learning ML and restrict our editor such that it is impossible to commit these errors. Applying Data Mining Research Methodologies on Information Systems
In this paper we considered several frameworks for data mining. These frameworks are
based on different approaches, including inductive databases approach, the reductionist statistical
approaches, data compression approach, constructive induction approach and some others. We
considered advantages and limitations of these frameworks. We presented the view on data
mining research as continuous and never- ending development process of an adaptive DM
system towards the efficient utilization of available DM techniques for solving a current problem
impacted by the dynamically changing environment. We discussed one of the traditional
information systems frameworks and, drawing the analogy to this framework, we considered a
data mining system as the special kind of adaptive information system. We adapted the information

Problems with Using Evolutionary Theory in Philosophy
Does science move toward truths? Are present scientific theories (approximately) true? Should we invoke truths to explain the success of science? Do our cognitive faculties track truths? Some philosophers say yes, while others say no, to these questions. Interestingly, both groups use the same scientific theory, viz., evolutionary theory, to defend their positions. I argue that it begs the question for the former group to do so because their positive answers imply that evolutionary theory is warranted, whereas it is self-defeating for the latter group to do so because their negative answers imply that evolutionary theory is unwarranted
Perspectives for proof unwinding by programming languages techniques
In this chapter, we propose some future directions of work, potentially
beneficial to Mathematics and its foundations, based on the recent import of
methodology from the theory of programming languages into proof theory. This
scientific essay, written for the audience of proof theorists as well as the
