Language resources and linked data: a practical perspective
Recently, experts and practitioners in language resources
have started recognizing the benefits of the linked data (LD) paradigm
for the representation and exploitation of linguistic data on the Web.
The adoption of the LD principles is leading to an emerging ecosystem of
multilingual open resources that conform to the Linguistic Linked Open
Data Cloud, in which datasets of linguistic data are interconnected and
represented following common vocabularies, which facilitates linguistic
information discovery, integration and access. In order to contribute to
this initiative, this paper summarizes several key aspects of the representation
of linguistic information as linked data from a practical perspective.
The main goal of this document is to provide the basic ideas and
tools for migrating language resources (lexicons, corpora, etc.) as LD on
the Web and to develop some useful NLP tasks with them (e.g., word
sense disambiguation). Such material was the basis of a tutorial imparted
at the EKAW’14 conference, which is also reported in the paper
Reusing computer-oriented lexica as foreign-language electronic dictionaries

Planning non existent dictionaries
In 2013, a conference entitled Planning non-existent dictionaries was held at the University of Lisbon. Scholars and lexicographers were invited to present and submit for discussion their research and practices, focusing on aspects that are traditionally perceived as shortcomings by dictionary makers and dictionary users. This book contains a collection of papers divided in three sections.
The first section is devoted to heritage dictionaries, referring to lexicographic projects that aim to register all the documented words in a language, particularly those that can be described as early linguistic evidence. The second section is devoted to dictionaries for special purposes and it gathers papers that describe innovative lexicographic projects. The last section in this volume provides an overview of contemporary e- lexicography projects.publishe
Proceedings of the Conference on Natural Language Processing 2010
This book contains state-of-the-art contributions to the 10th
conference on Natural Language Processing, KONVENS 2010
(Konferenz zur Verarbeitung natĂĽrlicher Sprache), with a focus
on semantic processing.
The KONVENS in general aims at offering a broad perspective
on current research and developments within the interdisciplinary
field of natural language processing. The central theme
draws specific attention towards addressing linguistic aspects
ofmeaning, covering deep as well as shallow approaches to semantic
processing. The contributions address both knowledgebased
and data-driven methods for modelling and acquiring
semantic information, and discuss the role of semantic information
in applications of language technology.
The articles demonstrate the importance of semantic processing,
and present novel and creative approaches to natural
language processing in general. Some contributions put their
focus on developing and improving NLP systems for tasks like
Named Entity Recognition or Word Sense Disambiguation, or
focus on semantic knowledge acquisition and exploitation with
respect to collaboratively built ressources, or harvesting semantic
information in virtual games. Others are set within the
context of real-world applications, such as Authoring Aids, Text
Summarisation and Information Retrieval. The collection highlights
the importance of semantic processing for different areas
and applications in Natural Language Processing, and provides
the reader with an overview of current research in this field
