    Role of sentiment classification in sentiment analysis: a survey

    Through a survey of literature, the role of sentiment classification in sentiment analysis has been reviewed. The review identifies the research challenges involved in tackling sentiment classification. A total of 68 articles during 2015 – 2017 have been reviewed on six dimensions viz., sentiment classification, feature extraction, cross-lingual sentiment classification, cross-domain sentiment classification, lexica and corpora creation and multi-label sentiment classification. This study discusses the prominence and effects of sentiment classification in sentiment evaluation and a lot of further research needs to be done for productive results

    Stock market sentiment lexicon acquisition using microblogging data and statistical measures

    Lexicon acquisition is a key issue for sentiment analysis. This paper presents a novel and fast approach for creating stock market lexicons. The approach is based on statistical measures applied over a vast set of labeled messages from StockTwits, which is a specialized stock market microblog. We compare three adaptations of statistical measures, such as pointwise mutual information (PMI), two new complementary statistics and the use of sentiment scores for affirmative and negated con- texts. Using StockTwits, we show that the new lexicons are competitive for measuring investor sentiment when compared with six popular lexicons. We also applied a lexicon to easily produce Twitter investor sentiment indicators and analyzed their correlation with survey sentiment indexes. The new microblogging indicators have a moderate correlation with popular Investors Intelligence (II) and American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) indicators. Thus, the new microblogging approach can be used alternatively to traditional survey indicators with advantages (e.g., cheaper creation, higher frequencies).This work was supported by FCT - Funda ção para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the Project Scope UID/CEC/00319/201

    SENTIMENT ANALYSIS OF CHINESE MICROBLOG MESSAGE USING NEURAL NETWORK-BASED VECTOR REPRESENTATION FOR MEASURING REGIONAL PREJUDICE

    Regional prejudice is prevalent in Chinese cities in which native residents and migrants lack a basic level of trust in the other group. Like Twitter, Sina Weibo is a social media platform where people actively engage in discussions on various social issues. Thus, it provides a good data source for measuring individuals’ regional prejudice on a large scale. We find that a resentful tone dominates in Weibo messages related to migrants. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, named DKV, for recognizing polarity and direction of sentiment for Weibo messages using distributed real-valued vector representation of keywords learned from neural networks. Such a representation can project rich context information (or embedding) into the vector space, and subsequently be used to infer similarity measures among words, sentences, and even documents. We provide a comprehensive performance evaluation to demonstrate that by exploiting the keyword embeddings, DKV paired with support vector machines can effectively recognize a Weibo message into the predefined sentiment and its direction. Results demonstrate that our method can achieve the best performances compared to other approaches

    Leveraging writing systems changes for deep learning based Chinese affective analysis

    Affective analysis of social media text is in great demand. Online text written in Chinese communities often contains mixed scripts including major text written in Chinese, an ideograph-based writing system, and minor text using Latin letters, an alphabet-based writing system. This phenomenon is referred to as writing systems changes (WSCs). Past studies have shown that WSCs often reflect unfiltered immediate affections. However, the use of WSCs poses more challenges in Natural Language Processing tasks because WSCs can break the syntax of the major text. In this work, we present our work to use WSCs as an effective feature in a hybrid deep learning model with attention network. The WSCs scripts are first identified by their encoding range. Then, the document representation of the text is learned through a Long Short-Term Memory model and the minor text is learned by a separate Convolution Neural Network model. To further highlight the WSCs components, an attention mechanism is adopted to re-weight the feature vector before the classification layer. Experiments show that the proposed hybrid deep learning method which better incorporates WSCs features can further improve performance compared to the state-of-the-art classification models. The experimental result indicates that WSCs can serve as effective information in affective analysis of the social media text

    Abstract-Recent years, big data has attracted increasing interest. Sentiment analysis from microblog as one kind of big data also receive great attention. Some recent research works are not suitable for sentiment analysis as the result that users prefer to express their feelings in individual ways. In this paper, a framework is proposed to calculate sentiment for aspects of event. Based on some state of art technologies, we build up one flowchart to get sentiment for aspects of event. During the process, name entities with the same meaning are clustered and sentiment carrier are filtered. In this way sentiment can be got even user express feeling for the same object with different words
