    Less-than-truckload is a transport modality that includes many practical variations to convey a number of transportation-requests from the origin locations to their destinations by using the possibility of goods-transshipments on the carrier?s terminals-network. In this way logistics companies are required to consolidate shipments from different suppliers in the outbound vehicles at a terminal of the network. We present a methodology for finding near-optimal solutions to a less-than-truckload shipping modality used for cargo consolidation and distribution through a terminals-network.     AbstractThis paper reviews the logistics challenges of a decentralization strategy in Singapore. The main purpose of an urban decentralization, where the commercial hubs and retail clusters are distributed in several regional centers is to relieve congestion from the city center and to move business closer to home. However, this approach can also create congestion in regional centers due to the rapid flow of public, private and freight vehicles in and out of regional centers. This paper identifies three major challenges and proposes Retail Precinct Management (RPM) which consists of four inter-related components to overcome these challenges

    Optimizing Multi Modal Transportation Networks for Sustainable Urban Freight Delivery, Case Study Southwest Nigeria

    Urban freight transportation enables economic productivity but contributes to congestion, emissions, and safety issues degrading livability. This paper investigates optimizing urban freight in Lagos, Nigeria using a multivariate regression model analyzing survey data on delivery costs across varying vehicles, routes, distances and frequencies. The model had low explanatory power, indicating complex contextual interactions impact costs. Spatial network analysis and logistics simulation are proposed to further evaluate infrastructure, vehicle technology, routing, coordination and policies holistically. Transitioning to electric vehicles, leveraging real-time traffic data, freight consolidation and policy incentives can balance efficiency, sustainability and equity in urban freight systems

    INTERCONTINENTAL FLIGTHS FROM EUROPEAN AIRPORTS: TOWARDS HUB CONCENTRATION OR NOT?

    This paper empirically analyzes changes in the supply of non-stop intercontinental flights from European airports. We take advantage of OAG data for air services from a rich sample of European airports to intercontinental destinations in the period 2004-2008. Results of the empirical analysis indicate a tendency towards a more balanced distribution of intercontinental flights across European airports. We also find that the demographic size of a region, its sector specialization, the political role of its central city and the proportion of connecting traffic explain the amount of and changes in long-haul air services supplied from European airports.airports, air transportation, intercontinental flights

    Simulation and optimization methods for logistics pooling in the outbound supply chain

This communication proposes a conceptual framework for logistics and transportation pooling systems, as well as a simulation method for strategic planning optimization.     Consolidation through resourcing in last-mile logistics

    This paper assesses how various ways of organizing last-mile logistics impact resource utilization, and, in turn, opportunities for consolidating goods. The paper combines a conceptualization of resourcing and consolidation derived from the literature with an analysis of contemporary last-mile logistics options in the Swedish retail market. Based on the analysis of three forms of last-mile logistics - consumer logistics, retailer logistics, and hybrid logistics - the paper discusses how resourcing for fixed, mobile, and coordination resources can enable consolidation in terms of time, place, and form. Drawing from the Swedish context, the paper calls for additional research combining country-specific studies while examining similarities and differences in last-mile logistics, particularly concerning factors that enable or hinder consolidation as well as how such potentials are realized in practice. Although consolidation clearly appears in the rich literature on last-mile logistics, this paper focuses on how consolidation can be achieved through resourcing and offers additional insights into current frameworks for last-mile logistics in retailing
