The VEX-93 environment as a hybrid tool for developing knowledge systems with different problem solving techniques
The paper describes VEX-93 as a hybrid environment for developing
knowledge-based and problem solver systems. It integrates methods and
techniques from artificial intelligence, image and signal processing and
data analysis, which can be mixed. Two hierarchical levels of reasoning
contains an intelligent toolbox with one upper strategic inference engine
and four lower ones containing specific reasoning models: truth-functional
(rule-based), probabilistic (causal networks), fuzzy (rule-based) and
case-based (frames). There are image/signal processing-analysis capabilities
in the form of programming languages with more than one hundred primitive
functions.
User-made programs are embeddable within knowledge basis, allowing the
combination of perception and reasoning. The data analyzer toolbox contains
a collection of numerical classification, pattern recognition and ordination
methods, with neural network tools and a data base query language at
inference engines's disposal.
VEX-93 is an open system able to communicate with external computer programs
relevant to a particular application. Metaknowledge can be used for
elaborate conclusions, and man-machine interaction includes, besides windows
and graphical interfaces, acceptance of voice commands and production of
speech output.
The system was conceived for real-world applications in general domains, but
an example of a concrete medical diagnostic support system at present under
completion as a cuban-spanish project is mentioned.

Valuations in Nilpotent Minimum Logic
The Euler characteristic can be defined as a special kind of valuation on
finite distributive lattices. This work begins with some brief consideration on
the role of the Euler characteristic on NM algebras, the algebraic counterpart
of Nilpotent Minimum logic. Then, we introduce a new valuation, a modified
version of the Euler characteristic we call idempotent Euler characteristic. We
show that the new valuation encodes information about the formul{\ae} in NM
propositional logic
Representations through a monoid on the set of fuzzy implications
Fuzzy implications are one of the most important fuzzy logic connectives. In this work, we conduct a systematic algebraic study on the set II of all fuzzy implications. To this end, we propose a binary operation, denoted by ⊛, which makes (I,⊛I,⊛) a non-idempotent monoid. While this operation does not give a group structure, we determine the largest subgroup SS of this monoid and using its representation define a group action of SS that partitions II into equivalence classes. Based on these equivalence classes, we obtain a hitherto unknown representations of the two main families of fuzzy implications, viz., the f- and g-implications
On the Use of F-transform on the Reduction of Concept Lattices
In this paper, we show that F-transform can be used to re- duce relational databases. Subsequently, we show that the respective concept lattice is reduced significantly as well. New features of the fuzzy logic development environment Xfuzzy
The characteristics of the new version of the fuzzy systems development environment Xfuzzy is presented. The environment covers the aspects related to the specification, verification, adjustment and implementation of fuzzy systems. It is an open environment (in the sense that the user can define many functional and structural aspects) and a free distribution tool that allows proving new formalisms and helps the definition and implementation of complex systems
The posterity of Zadeh's 50-year-old paper: A retrospective in 101 Easy Pieces – and a Few More
International audienceThis article was commissioned by the 22nd IEEE International Conference of Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE) to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lotfi Zadeh's seminal 1965 paper on fuzzy sets. In addition to Lotfi's original paper, this note itemizes 100 citations of books and papers deemed “important (significant, seminal, etc.)” by 20 of the 21 living IEEE CIS Fuzzy Systems pioneers. Each of the 20 contributors supplied 5 citations, and Lotfi's paper makes the overall list a tidy 101, as in “Fuzzy Sets 101”. This note is not a survey in any real sense of the word, but the contributors did offer short remarks to indicate the reason for inclusion (e.g., historical, topical, seminal, etc.) of each citation. Citation statistics are easy to find and notoriously erroneous, so we refrain from reporting them - almost. The exception is that according to Google scholar on April 9, 2015, Lotfi's 1965 paper has been cited 55,479 times
