    A New Leadership Development Model for Nursing Education

    Background Leadership competency is required throughout nursing. Students have difficulty understanding leadership as integral to education and practice. A consistent framework for nursing leadership education, strong scholarship and an evidence base are limited. Purpose To establish an integrated leadership development model for prelicensure nursing students that recognizes leadership as a fundamental skill for nursing practice and promotes development of nursing leadership education scholarship. Method Summarizing definitions of nursing leadership, conceptualizing leadership development capacity through reviewing trends, and synthesizing existing leadership theories through directed content analysis. Discussion Nine leadership skills form the organizing structure for the Nursing Leadership Development Model. Leadership identity development is supported via dimensions of knowing, doing, being and context.     Theory borrowing in IT-rich contexts : lessons from IS strategy research

    While indigenous theorizing in information systems has clear merits, theory borrowing will not, and should not, be eschewed given its appeal and usefulness. In this article, we aim at increasing our understanding of modifying of borrowed theories in IT-rich contexts. We present a framework in which we discuss how two recontextualization approaches of specification and distinction help with increasing the IT-richness of borrowed constructs and relationships. In doing so, we use several illustrative examples from information systems strategy. The framework can be used by researchers as a tool to explore the multitude of ways in which a theory from another discipline can yield the understanding of IT phenomena

    Culture in international business research: a bibliometric study in four top IB journals

    Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to conduct a study on the articles published in the four top international business (IB) journals to examine how four cultural models and concepts – Hofstede’s (1980), Hall’s (1976), Trompenaars’s (1993) and Project GLOBE’s (House et al., 2004) – have been used in the extant published IB research. National cultures and cultural differences provide a crucial component of the context of IB research. Design/methodology – This is a bibliometric study on the articles published in four IB journals over the period from 1976 to 2010, examining a sample of 517 articles using citations and co-citation matrices. Findings – Examining this sample revealed interesting patterns of the connections across the studies. Hofstede’s (1980) and House et al.’s (2004) research on the cultural dimensions are the most cited and hold ties to a large variety of IB research. These findings point to a number of research avenues to deepen the understanding on how firms may handle different national cultures in the geographies they operate. Research limitations – Two main limitations are faced, one associated to the bibliometric method, citations and co-citations analyses and other to the delimitation of our sample to only four IB journals, albeit top-ranked.     We address the problem of unsustainable business in the consumerist society with a reframing of the purpose of business, in recognition of the power of higher purpose for the company and contribution to society as the primary stakeholder. In this, the business model operated is crucial, but is generally under-invested, both conceptually unclear and usually more implicit than explicit, and thus lacking in guiding influence on the way a company performs. Despite the apparent significance of why and how a business operates, business model design is only in its infancy. A framework for business model design is outlined.     Effects of service experience on customer responses to the hotel chain

    This paper analyses customer experience in a hotel and its impact on the customer attitudes to both the individual hotel and the hotel chain. Specifically, the study focuses on the effects on emotions, satisfaction, attitude to hotel chain, intention to return, skepticism to negative information and WOM. In order to test the hypotheses, an empirical study was carried out in a sample of 300 individuals. Data was analysed through structural equation modelling, and results show that customer experiences in an individual hotel determine not only their responses to the hotel but also their responses to the hotel chain.     Investigating antecedents and consequences of corporate communication management

    This paper analyses the influences of managerial communication, marketing communication and organizational communication on corporate communication. In addition, this paper shows how corporate communication management influences organizational performance. This research also investigates the role of corporate leadership in moderating the relationship between corporate communication and organizational performance. Three categories of antecedents, namely, management communication, marketing communication and organizational communication are gathered from the literature. Direct consequences and indirect consequences through relevant mediators are identified. Future research directions are also offered. The compendium of antecedents and consequences of Corporate Communication Management (CCM) can be used by corporate communication practitioners for their segmentation and target stakeholders
