Electron wavepacket propagation and entanglement in a chain of coupled quantum dots
We study the coherent dynamics of one- and two-electron transport in a linear
array of tunnel-coupled quantum dots. We find that this system exhibits a rich
variety of coherent phenomena, ranging from electron wavepacket propagation and
interference to two-particle bonding and entanglement. Our studies, apart from
their relevance to the exploration of quantum dynamics and transport in
periodic structures, are also aimed at possible applications in future quantum
computation schemes.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
A Quantum Tweezer for Atoms
We propose a quantum tweezer for extracting a desired number of neutral atoms
from a reservoir. A trapped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is used as the
reservoir, taking advantage of its coherent nature, which can guarantee a
constant outcome. The tweezer is an attractive quantum dot, which may be
generated by red-detuned laser light. By moving with certain speeds, the dot
can extract a desired number of atoms from the BEC through Landau-Zener
tunneling. The feasibility of our quantum tweezer is demonstrated through
realistic and extensive model calculations.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures Revised versio
Quantized charge transport through a static quantum dot using a surface acoustic wave
We present a detailed study of the surface acoustic wave mediated quantized
transport of electrons through a split gate device containing an impurity
potential defined quantum dot within the split gate channel. A new regime of
quantized transport is observed at low RF powers where the surface acoustic
wave amplitude is comparable to the quantum dot charging energy. In this regime
resonant transport through the single-electron dot state occurs which we
interpret as turnstile-like operation in which the traveling wave amplitude
modulates the entrance and exit barriers of the quantum dot in a cyclic fashion
at GHz frequencies. For high RF powers, where the amplitude of the surface
acoustic wave is much larger than the quantum dot energies, the quantized
acoustoelectric current transport shows behavior consistent with previously
reported results. However, in this regime, the number of quantized current
plateaus observed and the plateau widths are determined by the properties of
the quantum dot, demonstrating that the microscopic detail of the potential
landscape in the split gate channel has a profound influence on the quantized
acoustoelectric current transport.Comment: 9 page
Dangling-bond charge qubit on a silicon surface
Two closely spaced dangling bonds positioned on a silicon surface and sharing
an excess electron are revealed to be a strong candidate for a charge qubit.
Based on our study of the coherent dynamics of this qubit, its extremely high
tunneling rate ~ 10^14 1/s greatly exceeds the expected decoherence rates for a
silicon-based system, thereby overcoming a critical obstacle of charge qubit
quantum computing. We investigate possible configurations of dangling bond
qubits for quantum computing devices. A first-order analysis of coherent
dynamics of dangling bonds shows promise in this respect.Comment: 17 pages, 3 EPS figures, 1 tabl
