    UPT. Library of College Management of Informatika Computer (STMIK) Wicida Samarinda East Kalimantan, representing peripatetic library in the field of loaning of books library of which can support student science. All activity at library still conducted manually, that is by noting every activity at one particular jotter. Information system is a structure system which consists of components which is interaction to support activities to present information at one particular organization. Applying of information system at library can assist to facilitate activity of library, especially activity related to presentation of information at library. Waterfall represent a model taking activity of elementary process like specification, development, validation, and evolution, and him as different process phases like specification of conditions, scheme of software, implementation, examination, and so on. Applying of model of waterfall at library information system expected can facilitate in activity of library especially in activity of loaning transaction and return of library book. Library book given by label of code (NIPUS) and membership card given by member number to facilitate process identify member and book at time of activity of loaning transaction and return. This research is expected can be made as media to water down activity at library, especially at UPT.     An evaluation of the development and use of a microcomputer assisted system for planning individualised adult literacy programmes in an adult basic education unit

    The thesis describes the development, implementation and evaluation of a computer assisted system for planning individualised adult literacy programmes in an adult basic education (ABE) unit located in an English College of Further Education. After examining past and current developments of Computer Based Applications in Education, both in general and in Literacy Teaching Applications, conclusions as to the appropriate use of computer-based learning in the proposed context are drawn. Human and hardware resources available in the ABE unit are detailed and appropriate aims for a proposed system based on the earlier conclusions are set out. A possible system instructional model is discussed via details of the current teaching, monitoring and evaluation activities of the unit. An examination of the current theory, practice and literature relating to literacy and adult literacy teaching enables a conclusion that a student-centred approach, in a real world context, using a common core curriculum, is most suitable. A detailed common-core curriculum model for teaching adult literacy is then proposed, following which a Warnier-Orr design exercise of a computer-based system known as MALCM, using the model, is described, from initial considerations through to system testing. The implementation and evaluation of the MALCM system in the setting of the ABE Unit is then described in the form of a case study. The reported and observed experiences of staff involved are analysed and the appropriateness of the case study as a means for evaluation is discussed. The thesis concludes by endorsing the potential for a system such as MALCM but underlines the need for user involvement in any CBL learning management development; It suggests that further development of the MALCM system as currently constituted is non-viable without considerable refinements to take account of developments in the field of hardware and intelligent knowledge-based systems

    Analysis of Economic Motives in the Individual Choice of Educational Paths

    The authors consider the economic motivations when individuals choose an educational path. This line of research is relevant from both, the point of view of science — research of economic behavior of an individual, and the point of view of practice — allows to increase efficiency of investments in a human capital. The authors have developed the economic and mathematical model of choice of optimum educational paths by individuals. The model is realized in the software and approved on real data on more than 5,5 thousand students. For the analysis of the importance of rational economic expectations when an educational path has to be chosen, the paths chosen by students is compared and the educational paths optimum from the point of view of economic rationality are calculated. The analysis of the results has showed that mainly, the choice of educational paths happens according to the economic motivations. On the considered selection, 66 % of prospective students have chosen an optimum path from the point of view of economic preferences. The most significant factor providing development of optimum educational paths is an expectation of higher income upon completion of education — 22 % of all educational paths, and a possibility of cost-cutting of educating or state-subsidized education — 12 %. In our opinion, one of the most important practical results of the research of optimum educational path is the need to consider expectations of students and prospective student when developing a state policy of investment in human capital

    Bayesian nonparametric Plackett-Luce models for the analysis of preferences for college degree programmes

    In this paper we propose a Bayesian nonparametric model for clustering partial ranking data. We start by developing a Bayesian nonparametric extension of the popular Plackett-Luce choice model that can handle an infinite number of choice items. Our framework is based on the theory of random atomic measures, with the prior specified by a completely random measure. We characterise the posterior distribution given data, and derive a simple and effective Gibbs sampler for posterior simulation. We then develop a Dirichlet process mixture extension of our model and apply it to investigate the clustering of preferences for college degree programmes amongst Irish secondary school graduates.
