Money for Nothing and Your Chips for Free? The Anatomy of the PC Wage Differential

    Get PDF
The role of the computer at the workplace is examined in determining the wage structure in Germany. It is shown that the wage premium attributed to using a computer at work using cross-sectional results for 1997 is 7%. To control for unmeasured individual effects, we use a random effects and fixed effects estimator. The coefficient for computer usage at the workplace did NOT remain stable and although just barely significant, was reduced to mere 1% with individual fixed effects. We conclude that there are no computer usage wage differentials worth speaking of, once one controls adequately for unobserved individual heterogeneity.

A real-time digital program for estimating aircraft stability and control parameters from flight test data by using the maximum likelihood method

    Get PDF
A computer program (Langley program C1123) has been developed for estimating aircraft stability and control parameters from flight test data. These parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood estimation procedure implemented on a real-time digital simulation system, which uses the Control Data 6600 computer. This system allows the investigator to interact with the program in order to obtain satisfactory results. Part of this system, the control and display capabilities, is described for this program. This report also describes the computer program by presenting the program variables, subroutines, flow charts, listings, and operational features. Program usage is demonstrated with a test case using pseudo or simulated flight data

Skylab mission planning support through the use of a hybrid simulation

    Get PDF
The manner in which a hybrid simulation was used in support of Skylab operations in the area of dynamics and control is described. Simulation results were used in the development of acceptable vehicle maneuvers and in the verification of acceptability when the maneuvers were integrated into daily flight plans. The criterion of acceptability was based on vehicle controllability and the minimization of thruster system propellant usage. A simulation of a representative daily flight plan containing three experimental maneuvers is included, along with thruster attitude control system propellant usage tables which show predicted and actual usage for each mission. The inherent characteristics of quick turnaround and flexibility afforded by the hybrid computer proved invaluable in the operations support required throughout the Skylab mission

The focal plane reception pattern calculation for a paraboloidal antenna with a nearby fence

    Get PDF
A computer simulation program is described which is used to estimate the effects of a proximate diffraction fence on the performance of paraboloid antennas. The computer program is written in FORTRAN. The physical problem, mathematical formulation and coordinate references are described. The main control structure of the program and the function of the individual subroutines are discussed. The Job Control Language set-up and program instruction are provided in the user's instruction to help users execute the present program. A sample problem with an appropriate output listing is made available as an illustration of the usage of the program

Reduction of computer usage costs in predicting unsteady aerodynamic loadings caused by control surface motions: Analysis and results

    Get PDF
Results of theoretical and numerical investigations conducted to develop economical computing procedures were applied to an existing computer program that predicts unsteady aerodynamic loadings caused by leading and trailing edge control surface motions in subsonic compressible flow. Large reductions in computing costs were achieved by removing the spanwise singularity of the downwash integrand and evaluating its effect separately in closed form. Additional reductions were obtained by modifying the incremental pressure term that account for downwash singularities at control surface edges. Accuracy of theoretical predictions of unsteady loading at high reduced frequencies was increased by applying new pressure expressions that exactly satisified the high frequency boundary conditions of an oscillating control surface. Comparative computer result indicated that the revised procedures provide more accurate predictions of unsteady loadings as well as providing reduction of 50 to 80 percent in computer usage costs

Reduction of computer usage costs in predicting unsteady aerodynamic loadings caused by control surface motions: Computer program description

    Get PDF
A digital computer program was developed to calculate unsteady loadings caused by motions of lifting surfaces with leading edge and trailing edge controls based on the subsonic kernel function approach. The pressure singularities at hinge line and side edges were extracted analytically as a preliminary step to solving the integral equation of collocation. The program calculates generalized aerodynamic forces for user supplied deflection modes. Optional intermediate output includes pressure at an array of points, and sectional generalized forces. From one to six controls on the half span can be accomodated

An Examination Of The Factor Structure Of The Computer Anxiety Rating Scale

    Get PDF
This study updates prior research and examines the stability of the factors underlying computer anxiety across time and with a different population of subjects.  A factor analysis revealed four distinct factors in the computer anxiety construct: general anxiety toward computer usage, confidence in learning ability, motivation to learn, and power or control of usage. These results validate prior research that found computer anxiety to be a multi-dimensional construct

Implementasi Dan Analisa Per Connection Queue (Pcq) Sebagai Kontrol Penggunaan Internet Pada Laboratorium Komputer

This aims to implement control and manage internet bandwidth USAge in computer networks. Distribution of bandwidth evenly on all hosts (computers) connected to a computer network. Reducing excessive bandwidth USAge when using media downloader hosts like Internet Download Manager (IDM). This study uses an experimental research. In this research, experimentation and implementation of the performance of the method per connection queue with queue (PCQ). The results of further experiments are documented for analysis to produce appropriate recommendations for bandwidth management with per connection queue (PCQ) untun control the use of the Internet in the laboratory. From the results of this analysis will come to the conclusion about the benefits and functions in more detail than the method using the per connection queue queue (PCQ) in controlling the use of the Internet on a computer network in a computer lab. The results of this study indicate that that the bandwidth management with per connection queue (PCQ) to control internet USAge is very significant changes. By utilizing this method of data traffic internet USAge can be set according to the amount of bandwidth available on the network. In addition to control Internet USAge, this method is also useful to limit the traffic rate is downloaded when a client using a download manager like IDM. By applying this method, between one client and another client will not get excessive bandwidth, so the use of the internet will be more stable and controllable
