Web 2.0 VDS : social networking as a facilitator of design education
In 2009, Deakin University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong trailed the use of Web 2.0 technologies to enhance learning outcomes in a third year architectural design studio that was modelled on the Virtual Design Studios (VDS) of past decades. The studio developed the VDS further by integrating a social learning environment into the blended learning experience. The Web 2.0 VDS utilised the social networking sites Ning.com, YouTube and Skype; various 3D modelling and video- and/or image-processing software; plus chat-software. These were used in combination to deliver lectures, communicate learning goals, disseminate learning resources, submit work, and provide feedback and comments on various design works in assessing students’ outcomes. This paper centres on issues of learning and teaching associated with the development of a Social Network VDS (SNVDS).<br /

â Exploring artistic abilities and creativity perceptions for the enrolled architectural engineering students
Architecture is considered one of the most significant human arts aims creativity in design. Therefore, it requires certain artistic skills and certain knowledge and perception from students. Architects are expected to have graphical communication skills enable them to translate their thoughts and ideas to sketching, drawing, model making, coloring, and rendering. The staff of first stage noticed the inadequate level of knowledge and shortfall in studentsâ abilities throughout years of education. Therefore, this paper aims to explore artistic abilities and creativity perceptions for the enrolled architectural engineering students. The research focuses on the first-grade students in Architectural Engineering Departments of University of Mosul. Mixed approaches were adopted for data collection including two surveys and ten in-depth interviews with the students after one month from their enrollment in university. The survey includes 68 questions serve four main axes, particularly, explores personal characteristics and abilities, traces studentsâ knowledge, investigates studentsâ artistic abilities and creativity perceptions, and tackles the role of school in developing artistic abilities and creativity for students. Findings reveal lack of studentâs experience in artistic skills including sketching, drawing, or coloring, basic knowing about international or local architecture. This low qualification refers to underestimate art subject and lack of basic knowledge of architecture gained during studentsâ secondary education
Molecular Docking Study of Nutmeg (Myristica Fragrans) Constituents as Anti-Skin Cancer Agents
Molecular docking analysis was carried out to understand better the interaction between DHODH and inhibitor from nutmeg in this series. The nutmeg constituent binding orientations in the active site of DHODH was seen in a molecular docking analysis and helped design a potentially new inhibitor. This work aimed to study the molecular docking of nutmeg constituents with the DHODH inhibitor using a computer-aided drug design. Molecular docking using AutoDock 4.2 was done to explore the models of binding complexes. The 3D structure was derived using Discovery Studio to investigate the essential chemical interaction of complex structures. Dihydroguaiaretic acid was the most potent ligand having a docking score of -9.3 kcal/mol. This value was better than the standard drug 5-FU. The dihydroguaiaretic acid structure interacted with Tyr365 and Thr63 through a hydrogen bond similar to the native ligand. These results suggest that nutmeg seed could serve as the lead compound for potent DHODH inhibitors against skin
Yuanming Yuan Garden: Space Arrangement Principles among Italy and China in Eighteenth Century
