    Business Case and Technology Analysis for 5G Low Latency Applications

    A large number of new consumer and industrial applications are likely to change the classic operator's business models and provide a wide range of new markets to enter. This article analyses the most relevant 5G use cases that require ultra-low latency, from both technical and business perspectives. Low latency services pose challenging requirements to the network, and to fulfill them operators need to invest in costly changes in their network. In this sense, it is not clear whether such investments are going to be amortized with these new business models. In light of this, specific applications and requirements are described and the potential market benefits for operators are analysed. Conclusions show that operators have clear opportunities to add value and position themselves strongly with the increasing number of services to be provided by 5G.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure

    Supply Chain Resource Planning Systems: A Scenario of Future Enterprise Systems

    To envisage possible future enterprise systems, we describe four scenarios that all respond to the increasing need for better supply chain-wide coordination of resource allocation decisions. We use two drivers to derive these scenarios; namely “normal form of providing corporate computing resources” and “stance of regulators towards explicit forms of industry-wide coordination”, the latter of which includes cooperation among competitors. While three of our scenarios are familiar to contemporary readers, the fourth, supply chain resource planning (SCRP) systems, marks a radical break with current practice. We describe the operating principle of SCRP systems and discuss possible governance structures for organizations supporting SCRP systems. We hope to encourage discussion about the future of enterprise systems that moves beyond extrapolating past and current trends. The paper concludes by outlining four areas for promising future research

    Open semantic service networks

    Online service marketplaces will soon be part of the economy to scale the provision of specialized multi-party services through automation and standardization. Current research, such as the *-USDL service description language family, is already defining the basic building blocks to model the next generation of business services. Nonetheless, the developments being made do not target to interconnect services via service relationships. Without the concept of relationship, marketplaces will be seen as mere functional silos containing service descriptions. Yet, in real economies, all services are related and connected. Therefore, to address this gap we introduce the concept of open semantic service network (OSSN), concerned with the establishment of rich relationships between services. These networks will provide valuable knowledge on the global service economy, which can be exploited for many socio-economic and scientific purposes such as service network analysis, management, and control

    The financial services industry is believed to be on the verge of a dramatic [r]evolution. A substantial redesign of its value chains aimed at reducing costs, providing more efficient and flexible services and enabling new products and revenue streams is imminent. But there seems to be no clear migration path nor goal which can cast light on the question where the finance industry and its various players will be and should be in a decade from now. The mission of the E-Finance Lab is the development and application of research methodologies in the financial industry that promote and assess how business strategies and structures are shared and supported by strategies and structures of information systems. Important challenges include the design of smart production infrastructures, the development and evaluation of advantageous sourcing strategies and smart selling concepts to enable new revenue streams for financial service providers in the future. Overall, our goal is to contribute methods and views to the realignment of the E-Finance value chain. ..

    SaaS adoption in Swedish manufacturing markets

    The purpose of this research is to understand factors that affect to cloud computing adoption and deployment in Swedish manufacturing markets. Cloud computing is a method to provide IT services through the Internet. The research is done by studying largest manufacturing companies in Sweden that have over 300 m. € revenue. A semi-structured survey was sent to 186 top managers in SCM related positions by web survey and telephone calls. The questions are focusing on success factors in cloud computing adoption and deployment. This thesis used mixed research design. The core of this mixed research is quantitative research. Mean, standard deviation and confidence intervals were calculated. The core was supplemented with qualitative analysis. Themes that arose from open questions were categorized and summed and mixed with quantitative research. Total 6 valid responses were gathered. Even as the results are not generalizable due small sample size, indications can be made. For the core part, statistically the most significant findings were trust between the cloud provider and client organization and client communicating cloud benefits to employees have both positive affect on cloud deployment. Qualitative analysis revealed that sharing and communication, flexibility, reduced costs, convenience, improved performance, references, client need comprehension and big data usages were themes that benefit cloud computing adoption and deployment.
