    Now a day wireless networks are mostly preferred over wired networks because wireless networks are flexible and required no wire. If we talk about successful communication then end to end delivery of message is very important. In a heavy loaded networks scheduling of packets are key, by the proper scheduling of packets we can improve the guarantee ratio hence overall performance of the network is improved. If we focus on real time communication then real time packet scheduling plays an important role for enhance the performance of the system. In any network security plays a vital role, to protect the data from intruder and many security threats proper security of data is very important. So we can say that overall performance of the system is a combination of security and scheduling. In this paper we talk about real time packet scheduling in wireless networks. Here we use Dynamic Secure-Aware Real-Time Scheduling Algorithm for Packet Switched Network [DSASA]. This is a dynamic real time packet scheduling technique which reduce packets drop, increase guarantee ratio of data traffic and provide security for data packets

    Characteristics of agent-based hierarchical diff-EDF schedulability over heterogeneous real-time Packet networks

    Packet networks are currently enabling the integration of heterogeneous traffic with a wide range of characteristics that extend from video traffic with stringent QoS requirements to best-effort traffic requiring no guarantees. QoS guarantees can be provided in packet networks by the use of proper packet scheduling algorithms. In this paper, we propose a new priority assignment scheduling algorithm, Hierarchical Diff-EDF, which can meet the real-time needs while continuing to provide best effort service over heterogeneous network traffic environment. The Hierarchical Diff-EDF service meets the flow miss rate requirements through the combination of single step hierarchal scheduling for the different network flows and the admission control mechanism that detects the overload conditions to adjust packets' priorities. To examine the proposed scheduler, we introduced an attempt to provide an exact analytical solution. The attempt showed that the solution was apparently very complicated due to the high interdependences between the system queues' service. Hence, the use of simulation seems inevitable. A multi-agent simulation that takes the inspiration from object-oriented programming is adopted. The simulation itself is aimed to the construction of a set of elements which, when fully elaborated, define an agent system specification. When evaluating our proposed scheduler, it was extremely obvious that the Hierarchical Diff-EDF scheduler performs over both of the EDF and Diff-EDF schedulers

    Scheduling soft real-time jobs over dual non-real-time servers

    In this paper, we consider soft real-time systems with redundant off-the-shelf processing components (e.g., CPU, disk, network), and show how applications can exploit the redundancy to improve the system's ability of meeting response time goals (soft deadlines). We consider two scheduling policies, one that evenly distributes load (Balance), and one that partitions load according to job slackness (Chop). We evaluate the effectiveness of these policies through analysis and simulation. Our results show that by intelligently distributing jobs by their slackness amount the servers, Chop can significantly improve real-time performance. ©1996 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

    Scheduling in CDMA-based wireless packet networks.

The scheduler plays an important role in enabling a network to meet all these requirements. In wired networks a large amount of research has been performed on various schedulers, most of which belong to the family of General Processor Sharing (GPS) schedulers. In this dissertation we briefly discuss the work that has been done on a range of wired schedulers, which all attempt to differentiate between heterogeneous traffic. In the world of wireless communications the scheduler plays a very important role, since it can take channel conditions into account to further improve the performance of the network. The main focus of this dissertation is to introduce schedulers, which attempt to meet the Quality of Service requirements of various data types in a wireless environment. Examples of schedulers that take channel conditions into account are the Modified Largest Weighted Delay First (M-LWDF), as well as a new scheduler introduced in this dissertation, known as the Wireless Fair Largest Weighted Delay First (WF-LWDF) algorithm. The two schemes are studied in detail and a comparison of their throughput, delay, power, and packet dropping performance is made through a range of simulations. The results are compared to the performance offour other schedulers. The fairness ofM-LWDF and WFLWDF is determined through simulations. The throughput results are used to establish Chernoff bounds of the fairness of these two algorithms. Finally, a summary is given of the published delay bounds of various schedulers, and the tightness of the resultant bounds is discussed

    Polymorphic computing abstraction for heterogeneous architectures

    Integration of multiple computing paradigms onto system on chip (SoC) has pushed the boundaries of design space exploration for hardware architectures and computing system software stack. The heterogeneity of computing styles in SoC has created a new class of architectures referred to as Heterogeneous Architectures. Novel applications developed to exploit the different computing styles are user centric for embedded SoC. Software and hardware designers are faced with several challenges to harness the full potential of heterogeneous architectures. Applications have to execute on more than one compute style to increase overall SoC resource utilization. The implication of such an abstraction is that application threads need to be polymorphic. Operating system layer is thus faced with the problem of scheduling polymorphic threads. Resource allocation is also an important problem to be dealt by the OS. Morphism evolution of application threads is constrained by the availability of heterogeneous computing resources. Traditional design optimization goals such as computational power and lower energy per computation are inadequate to satisfy user centric application resource needs. Resource allocation decisions at application layer need to permeate to the architectural layer to avoid conflicting demands which may affect energy-delay characteristics of application threads. We propose Polymorphic computing abstraction as a unified computing model for heterogeneous architectures to address the above issues. Simulation environment for polymorphic applications is developed and evaluated under various scheduling strategies to determine the effectiveness of polymorphism abstraction on resource allocation. User satisfaction model is also developed to complement polymorphism and used for optimization of resource utilization at application and network layer of embedded systems

    Predictable Real-Time Wireless Networking For Sensing And Control

    Towards the end goal of providing predictable real-time wireless networking for sensing and control, we have developed a real-time routing protocol MTA that predictably delivers data by their deadlines, and a scheduling protocol PRKS to ensure a certain link reliability based on the Physical-ratio-K (PRK) model, which is both realistic and amenable for distributed implementation, and a greedy scheduling algorithm to deliver as many packets as possible to the sink by a deadline in lossy multi-hop wireless sensor networks. Real-time routing is a basic element of closed-loop, real-time sensing and control, but it is challenging due to dynamic, uncertain link/path delays. The probabilistic nature of link/path delays makes the basic problem of computing the probabilistic distribution of path delays NP-hard, yet quantifying probabilistic path delays is a basic element of real-time routing and may well have to be executed by resource-constrained devices in a distributed manner; the highly-varying nature of link/path delays makes it necessary to adapt to in-situ delay conditions in real-time routing, but it has been observed that delay-based routing can lead to instability, estimation error, and low data delivery performance in general. To address these challenges, we propose the Multi-Timescale Estimation (MTE) method; by accurately estimating the mean and variance of per-packet transmission time and by adapting to fast-varying queueing in an accurate, agile manner, MTE enables accurate, agile, and efficient estimation of probabilistic path delay bounds in a distributed manner. Based on MTE, we propose the Multi-Timescale Adaptation (MTA) routing protocol; MTA integrates the stability of an ETX-based directed-acyclic-graph (DAG) with the agility of spatiotemporal data flow control within the DAG to ensure real-time data delivery in the presence of dynamics and uncertainties. We also address the challenges of implementing MTE and MTA in resource-constrained devices such as TelosB motes. We evaluate the performance of MTA using the NetEye and Indriya sensor network testbeds. We find that MTA significantly outperforms existing protocols, e.g., improving deadline success ratio by 89% and reducing transmission cost by a factor of 9.7. Predictable wireless communication is another basic enabler for networked sensing and control in many cyber-physical systems, yet co-channel interference remains a major source of uncertainty in wireless communication. Integrating the protocol model\u27s locality and the physical model\u27s high fidelity, the physical-ratio-K (PRK) interference model bridges the gap between the suitability for distributed implementation and the enabled scheduling performance, and it is expected to serve as a foundation for distributed, predictable interference control. To realize the potential of the PRK model and to address the challenges of distributed PRK-based scheduling, we design protocol PRKS. PRKS uses a control-theoretic approach to instantiating the PRK model according to in-situ network and environmental conditions, and, through purely local coordination, the distributed controllers converge to a state where the desired link reliability is guaranteed. PRKS uses local signal maps to address the challenges of anisotropic, asymmetric wireless communication and large interference range, and PRKS leverages the different timescales of PRK model adaptation and data transmission to decouple protocol signaling from data transmission. Through sensor network testbed-based measurement study, we observe that, unlike existing scheduling protocols where link reliability is unpredictable and the reliability requirement satisfaction ratio can be as low as 0%, PRKS enables predictably high link reliability (e.g., 95%) in different network and environmental conditions without a priori knowledge of these conditions, and, through local distributed coordination, PRKS achieves a channel spatial reuse very close to what is enabled by the state-of-the-art centralized scheduler while ensuring the required link reliability. Ensuring the required link reliability in PRKS also reduces communication delay and improves network throughput. We study the problem of scheduling packet transmissions to maximize the expected number of packets collected at the sink by a deadline in a multi-hop wireless sensor network with lossy links. Most existing work assumes error-free transmissions when interference constraints are complied, yet links can be unreliable due to external interference, shadow- ing, and fading in harsh environments in practice. We formulate the problem as a Markov decision process, yielding an optimal solution. However, the problem is computationally in- tractable due to the curse of dimensionality. Thus, we propose the efficient and greedy Best Link First Scheduling (BLF) protocol. We prove it is optimal for the single-hop case and provide an approach for distributed implementation. Extensive simulations show it greatly enhances real-time data delivery performance, increasing deadline catch ratio by up to 50%, compared with existing scheduling protocols in a wide range of network and traffic settings
