This paper explores the problem of protecting a site on the Internet against hostile external Java applets while allowing trusted internal applets to run. With careful implementation, a site can be made resistant to current Java security weaknesses as well as those yet to be discovered. Maintenance and Continued Development of the IISTPS Transportation Information System, TRANSWEB, MTI Report 99-01

The Norman Y. Mineta International Institute for Surface Transportation Policy Studies (IISTPS) at San José State University (SJSU) conducted this project to maintain and continue development of a transportation information system entitled TransWeb . The project elements included: 1) the maintenance and continued development of a World Wide Web site for IISTPS (TransWeb); 2) development and maintenance of a library resource database; and 3) a survey of transportation professionals, primarily in California, regarding their use of the Internet and TransWeb. Site statistics reported here show the extent to which the transportation community uses TransWeb. Standard maintenance procedures are employed, including a weekly review and update by student assistants. The report’s conclusions and recommendations focus on continued maintenance and updating of equipment, features and content to reflect the growing importance of World Wide Web for transportation professionals, researchers, and students

The Hypertext Internet Connection: E-mail, Online Search, Gopher

In this paper we show how to handle and organize the large amount of information accessible through the Internet or other public communication networks in a hypertext environment. The C(K)onstance-Hypertext-System (KHS) uses typed units to indicate the differences and the content and structure of information, comprising text, forms, images pointers to external information. We show how to imbed Internet services, which usual require rather different interaction styles, such as point-to-point communication (e-mail query formulation (online databases) or browsing (Gopher) into the uniform interaction model of the KHS. SNS programming environment user's guide

The computing environment is briefly described for the Supercomputing Network Subsystem (SNS) of the Central Scientific Computing Complex of NASA Langley. The major SNS computers are a CRAY-2, a CRAY Y-MP, a CONVEX C-210, and a CONVEX C-220. The software is described that is common to all of these computers, including: the UNIX operating system, computer graphics, networking utilities, mass storage, and mathematical libraries.
