journal articleAs another facet in a long-term analysis of the birds of Utah, an avifaunal survey was made in the northwestern corner of the state. Here the principal physiographic feature is the Raft River Mountains. The main axis of this range runs in an east-west direction paralleling the Utah-Idaho border immediately to the north. To the southwest lie the lower and less prominent Grouse Creek Mountains and in the extreme northwest corner of the state there is another, smaller range, the Goose Creek Mountains. The Grouse Creek Mountains run in a north-south direction, while the main portion of the Goose Creek Range runs essentially northeast and southwest and then tails off to the south along the Utah-Nevada border. Just west of the Grouse Creek Mountains is Grouse Creek Valley, which runs north and south in Utah parallel to the Utah-Nevada border. While nearly all parts of the region were visited, the Raft River Mountains received most of the attention, especially the north slope in the vicinity of the towns of Yost, Standrod, and Nafton

In 2004, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration cosigned the Memorandum of Agreement on Observer Safety. This document aims to improve the at-sea safety of National Marine Fisheries Service observers who regularly document catch on commercial fishing vessels. Through data analyses and interviews, we determined whether or not the expectations of the agreement have been met. Results of this project will potentially assist the USCG in continuing their mission of improving marine safety

Supporting Learner-Content Interaction on Autodidactic Field Trips through Mobile Learning Applications

The increasing number of university students in Europe leads to an increasing student-to-lecturer ratio which finally results in a lower quality of studying experience. Thus, lecturers have to find new possibilities to adapt to the changing circumstances. This is particularly important in disciplines of natural sciences, as they integrate field trips in their curriculum, which require small groups of students. To be able to offer field trips in the future, one possible solution is to combine them with mobile learning application to enable autodidactic field trips. As prior research already showed that mobile learning applications can support autodidactic activities in education, the aim of this study is to design and develop a mobile learning application to support field trips. The existing research about designing such applications is limited, especially regarding needed requirements. With the aim of deducing meta-requirements and design principles for such applications, we apply the design science approach

The findings of prehistoric logboats, dugout canoes and other vessels all over the world mark the beginning of shipbuilding and transportation traditions. The part of this important world heritage landscape is also Ljubljansko barje. This great story of transportation on water, which is closely linked to man’s traditional coexistence with water and his life in aquatic environments, has a strong symbolic meaning since the vast majority of humanity lives near the seas, lakes and rivers. In the general story of shipping traditions, shipbuilding and vessel typology in the framework of world heritage, the simple prehistoric vessels as logboats, canoe, basket boats, reed boats, bamboo rafts, etc. are, have not been paid enough attention so far, although they definitely deserve it, as they represent the origins of the mankind’s navigational tradition
