Class-specific synthesized dictionary model for Zero-Shot Learning
Zero-Shot Learning (ZSL) aims at recognizing unseen classes that are absent during the training stage. Unlike the existing approaches that learn a visual-semantic embedding model to bridge the low-level visual space and the high-level class prototype space, we propose a novel synthesized approach for addressing ZSL within a dictionary learning framework. Specifically, it learns both a dictionary matrix and a class-specific encoding matrix for each seen class to synthesize pseudo instances for unseen classes with auxiliary of seen class prototypes. This allows us to train the classifiers for the unseen classes with these pseudo instances. In this way, ZSL can be treated as a traditional classification task, which makes it applicable for traditional and generalized ZSL settings simultaneously. Extensive experimental results on four benchmark datasets (AwA, CUB, aPY, and SUN) demonstrate that our method yields competitive performances compared to state-of-the-art methods on both settings
Structure propagation for zero-shot learning
The key of zero-shot learning (ZSL) is how to find the information transfer
model for bridging the gap between images and semantic information (texts or
attributes). Existing ZSL methods usually construct the compatibility function
between images and class labels with the consideration of the relevance on the
semantic classes (the manifold structure of semantic classes). However, the
relationship of image classes (the manifold structure of image classes) is also
very important for the compatibility model construction. It is difficult to
capture the relationship among image classes due to unseen classes, so that the
manifold structure of image classes often is ignored in ZSL. To complement each
other between the manifold structure of image classes and that of semantic
classes information, we propose structure propagation (SP) for improving the
performance of ZSL for classification. SP can jointly consider the manifold
structure of image classes and that of semantic classes for approximating to
the intrinsic structure of object classes. Moreover, the SP can describe the
constrain condition between the compatibility function and these manifold
structures for balancing the influence of the structure propagation iteration.
The SP solution provides not only unseen class labels but also the relationship
of two manifold structures that encode the positive transfer in structure
propagation. Experimental results demonstrate that SP can attain the promising
results on the AwA, CUB, Dogs and SUN databases
Automatic Discovery, Association Estimation and Learning of Semantic Attributes for a Thousand Categories
Attribute-based recognition models, due to their impressive performance and
their ability to generalize well on novel categories, have been widely adopted
for many computer vision applications. However, usually both the attribute
vocabulary and the class-attribute associations have to be provided manually by
domain experts or large number of annotators. This is very costly and not
necessarily optimal regarding recognition performance, and most importantly, it
limits the applicability of attribute-based models to large scale data sets. To
tackle this problem, we propose an end-to-end unsupervised attribute learning
approach. We utilize online text corpora to automatically discover a salient
and discriminative vocabulary that correlates well with the human concept of
semantic attributes. Moreover, we propose a deep convolutional model to
optimize class-attribute associations with a linguistic prior that accounts for
noise and missing data in text. In a thorough evaluation on ImageNet, we
demonstrate that our model is able to efficiently discover and learn semantic
attributes at a large scale. Furthermore, we demonstrate that our model
outperforms the state-of-the-art in zero-shot learning on three data sets:
ImageNet, Animals with Attributes and aPascal/aYahoo. Finally, we enable
attribute-based learning on ImageNet and will share the attributes and
associations for future research.Comment: Accepted as a conference paper at CVPR 201
