Face image super-resolution using 2D CCA
In this paper a face super-resolution method using two-dimensional canonical correlation analysis (2D CCA) is presented. A detail compensation step is followed to add high-frequency components to the reconstructed high-resolution face. Unlike most of the previous researches on face super-resolution algorithms that first transform the images into vectors, in our approach the relationship between the high-resolution and the low-resolution face image are maintained in their original 2D representation. In addition, rather than approximating the entire face, different parts of a face image are super-resolved separately to better preserve the local structure. The proposed method is compared with various state-of-the-art super-resolution algorithms using multiple evaluation criteria including face recognition performance. Results on publicly available datasets show that the proposed method super-resolves high quality face images which are very close to the ground-truth and performance gain is not dataset dependent. The method is very efficient in both the training and testing phases compared to the other approaches. © 2013 Elsevier B.V
An Efficient Algorithm for Video Super-Resolution Based On a Sequential Model
In this work, we propose a novel procedure for video super-resolution, that
is the recovery of a sequence of high-resolution images from its low-resolution
counterpart. Our approach is based on a "sequential" model (i.e., each
high-resolution frame is supposed to be a displaced version of the preceding
one) and considers the use of sparsity-enforcing priors. Both the recovery of
the high-resolution images and the motion fields relating them is tackled. This
leads to a large-dimensional, non-convex and non-smooth problem. We propose an
algorithmic framework to address the latter. Our approach relies on fast
gradient evaluation methods and modern optimization techniques for
non-differentiable/non-convex problems. Unlike some other previous works, we
show that there exists a provably-convergent method with a complexity linear in
the problem dimensions. We assess the proposed optimization method on {several
video benchmarks and emphasize its good performance with respect to the state
of the art.}Comment: 37 pages, SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences, 201
Compressive Sensing for PAN-Sharpening
Based on compressive sensing framework and sparse reconstruction technology, a new pan-sharpening method, named Sparse Fusion of Images (SparseFI, pronounced as sparsify), is proposed in [1]. In this paper, the proposed SparseFI algorithm is validated using UltraCam and WorldView-2 data. Visual and statistic analysis show superior performance of SparseFI compared to the existing conventional pan-sharpening methods in general, i.e. rich in spatial information and less spectral distortion. Moreover, popular quality assessment metrics are employed to explore the dependency on regularization parameters and evaluate the efficiency of various sparse reconstruction toolboxes
Lensless wide-field fluorescent imaging on a chip using compressive decoding of sparse objects.
We demonstrate the use of a compressive sampling algorithm for on-chip fluorescent imaging of sparse objects over an ultra-large field-of-view (>8 cm(2)) without the need for any lenses or mechanical scanning. In this lensfree imaging technique, fluorescent samples placed on a chip are excited through a prism interface, where the pump light is filtered out by total internal reflection after exciting the entire sample volume. The emitted fluorescent light from the specimen is collected through an on-chip fiber-optic faceplate and is delivered to a wide field-of-view opto-electronic sensor array for lensless recording of fluorescent spots corresponding to the samples. A compressive sampling based optimization algorithm is then used to rapidly reconstruct the sparse distribution of fluorescent sources to achieve approximately 10 microm spatial resolution over the entire active region of the sensor-array, i.e., over an imaging field-of-view of >8 cm(2). Such a wide-field lensless fluorescent imaging platform could especially be significant for high-throughput imaging cytometry, rare cell analysis, as well as for micro-array research
An Improved Observation Model for Super-Resolution under Affine Motion
Super-resolution (SR) techniques make use of subpixel shifts between frames
in an image sequence to yield higher-resolution images. We propose an original
observation model devoted to the case of non isometric inter-frame motion as
required, for instance, in the context of airborne imaging sensors. First, we
describe how the main observation models used in the SR literature deal with
motion, and we explain why they are not suited for non isometric motion. Then,
we propose an extension of the observation model by Elad and Feuer adapted to
affine motion. This model is based on a decomposition of affine transforms into
successive shear transforms, each one efficiently implemented by row-by-row or
column-by-column 1-D affine transforms.
We demonstrate on synthetic and real sequences that our observation model
incorporated in a SR reconstruction technique leads to better results in the
case of variable scale motions and it provides equivalent results in the case
of isometric motions
