Art in the Age of Networks - Networks as a Way of Thinking
The theme-based and material-based units (with lessons and lesson sequences) propose a curriculum for one academic semester in an undergraduate visual arts school (for sophomore, 2nd year, or junior, 3rd year students). However the lessons could be modified and tailored to any age group developmentally. This curricular framework aims to foster collaboration (within individuals, materials and disciplines), explore networked pedagogy and networks in pedagogy as a collaborating force through and with the visual arts and explore the materiality of the code and the digital media. The course also engages with new media theory and literature, investigates the materiality of the digital media as collaborators, mediators and metaphors and reflects on how technology affects pedagogy and allows students to tailor projects according to their own interests. The course content is flexible in its approach with plenty of elbowroom. The 3rd Unit of the suggested curriculum also seeks to advocate for social justice; students cultivate perspectives about the power of digital media to address social issues, they probe into matters of social justice or injustice with the featured artists and make connections with the artistic processes and goals of the artists (listed in the lessons) to reflect on the sociopolitical context of their own art making. The students also think about networks as an abstract or tangible concept (digital, social, physical, and biological networks) and create works in an open-ended, student-centric environment that encourages critical thinking, independent decision-making and enables them to chose their own nature/ track of projects.https://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/cstae_resource_higher_education/1002/thumbnail.jp
Contextual impacts on industrial processes brought by the digital transformation of manufacturing: a systematic review
The digital transformation of manufacturing (a phenomenon also known as "Industry 4.0" or "Smart Manufacturing") is finding a growing interest both at practitioner and academic levels, but is still in its infancy and needs deeper investigation. Even though current and potential advantages of digital manufacturing are remarkable, in terms of improved efficiency, sustainability, customization, and flexibility, only a limited number of companies has already developed ad hoc strategies necessary to achieve a superior performance. Through a systematic review, this study aims at assessing the current state of the art of the academic literature regarding the paradigm shift occurring in the manufacturing settings, in order to provide definitions as well as point out recurring patterns and gaps to be addressed by future research. For the literature search, the most representative keywords, strict criteria, and classification schemes based on authoritative reference studies were used. The final sample of 156 primary publications was analyzed through a systematic coding process to identify theoretical and methodological approaches, together with other significant elements. This analysis allowed a mapping of the literature based on clusters of critical themes to synthesize the developments of different research streams and provide the most representative picture of its current state. Research areas, insights, and gaps resulting from this analysis contributed to create a schematic research agenda, which clearly indicates the space for future evolutions of the state of knowledge in this field
Piensa globalmente, actúa localmente: mapeo de la cultura libre en un sistema mediático híbrido
From the nineties, the Internet has been providing new political hybrid action forms. At the
same time, some communities make a disruptive use of technologies aiming to subvert
network power relationships at the current capitalized and centralized cyberspace.
Addressing a collaborative mapping, we identified 290 free culture communities in
Spain. Their characteristics suggest the relevance of offline spaces and local areas to
deliberate, propose and perform political participation towards a neutral, centralised
and free Internet.

Issues and Path Selection of Artificial Intelligence Design Talents Training in applied Undergraduate Universities in Smart City
The widespread popularity and application of artificial intelligence technology requires technological innovation, of which talent training is an important content. The lack of professional talents has greatly restricted the development of the artificial intelligence industry to some extent. How to train industrial design talents with comprehensive qualities of artificial intelligence design talents in universities has now become the most important topic. Carry out university teacher training based on the industrial design profession, carry out the collaborative education innovation model based on university-enterprise-government , innovative ability and awareness training curriculum system, and use artificial intelligence talent training goals and curriculum system for the construction and practice of goals. Analyze the current plight of artificial intelligence design talent training in applied general universities, clarify the current types and status quo of artificial intelligence design talents, and propose specific ways to solve the current artificial intelligence design talent training. There are few relevant talents for artificial intelligence design professionals who can combine their ideas and technology in actual production. The lack of design talents has greatly limited the development of their industries to some extent. The current application-oriented undergraduates Colleges and universities should explore specific paths for the training of artificial intelligence design talents, and the construction and practice of related curriculum systems should also be gradually revised during practical exploration, so as to realize innovative education through educational innovation
China's absorptive State: research, innovation and the prospects for China-UK collaboration
China's innovation system is advancing so rapidly in multiple directions that the UK needs to develop a more ambitious and tailored strategy, able to maximise opportunities and minimise risks across the diversity of its innovation links to China. For the UK, the choice is not whether to engage more deeply with the Chinese system, but how.
This report analyses the policies, prospects and dilemmas for Chinese research and innovation over the next decade. It is designed to inform a more strategic approach to supporting China-UK collaboration

Manufacturing “Culture”: The Promotion of Intellectual Property Rights in China
This research examines China’s persistent effort to promote intellectual property rights (IPR) since the 1980s. Laws of intellectual property were among the first batch of legislations in China’s market reform. Since the mid-1980s, the state propaganda apparatus launched nationwide campaigns in five-year cycles to “educate” Chinese people on the Party’s new market-oriented law and policy, including laws of IPR. When intellectual property became core state policy in the 2000s, new initiatives emerged under law promotion campaigns to “raise awareness” of intellectual property. Starting the late 2000s, the promotion of IPR became stand-alone endeavors devoted to an innovation-friendly “culture” of intellectual property that facilitated compliance with the law and promoted industrial growth in cultural and media sectors.
The notion of “IPR culture” played a key role in governmental promotion endeavors after China developed its national IPR strategy in the mid-2000s. In official discourse, “IPR culture” is instrumental and serves to shape mind-sets and regulate behaviors. It seeks to extensively use the Leninist media system to impose top-down pre-packaged understanding of intellectual property. While engaging actively with Western theories and corporate practices, IPR propaganda in China marginalizes and represses bottom-up challenges to the official stance in protection of private cultural property.
China’s intellectual property propaganda campaigns are part of the state’s efforts to legitimate and facilitate the market-oriented reform. Since the late 1970s, the market reform proceeded side-by-side with ruthless repression of bottom-up resistance. IPR stood out in the state’s reform scheme at a time when China’s (re)insertion into global capitalist political economy took place concurrently with communication industries playing a key role to propel growth and IPR systems serving as the cornerstone for the market. The state-led campaign to engineer a pro-market IPR culture manifests China’s adoption of the logic of the global IPR regime, which will only subject China to the hegemonic power of Western IPR discourse and distance the state’s cultural project from grassroots dynamics of meaning making
