Optimization of a wifi wireless network that maximizes the level of satisfaction of users and allows the use of new technological trends in higher education institutions
The campus wireless networks have many users, who have different roles and network requirements, ranging from the use of educational platforms, informative consultations, emails, among others. Currently due to the inefficient use of network resources and little wireless planning, caused by the growth of the technological infrastructure (which is often due to daily worries, rather than to a lack of preparation by those in charge of managing the network), There are two essential factors that truncate the requirement of having a stable and robust net-work platform. First, the degradation of the quality of services perceived by users, and second, the congestion caused by the high demand for convergent traffic (video, voice, and data). Both factors imply great challenges on the part of the administrators of the network, which in many occasions are overwhelmed by per-manent incidences of instability, coverage, and congestion, as well as the diffi-culty of maintaining it economically. The present investigation seeks to propose a process of optimization of the infrastructure and parameters of the configuration of a wireless network, that allows maximizing the level of satisfaction of the users
in Higher Education Institutions. In the first place, it is expected to determine an adequate methodology to estimate the level of satisfaction of the users (defining a mathematical criterion or algorithm based on the study variables [1], character-ize the environment in which the project will be developed, making a complete study of the wireless conditions and implement optimization strategies with soft-ware-defined networks (SDN). SDN is a concept in computer networks that al-lows network management to be carried out efficiently and flexibly, separating the control plane from the data plane into network devices. SDN architecture consists of an infrastructure layer which is a collection of network devices con-nected to the SDN Controller using protocol (OpenFlow) as a protocol [2]. Also, SDN will study traffic patterns on the network as a basis for optimizing network device usage [3]. The phases of the research will be carried out following the life cycle defined by the Cisco PPDIOO methodology (Prepare, Plan, Design, Imple-ment, Operate, Optimize) [4].Institución Universitaria ITSA, Corporación Universitaria Reformada CUR, Corporación Universitaria Latinoamericana CUL, Universidad de la Costa CUC, Universitaria Minuto de Dios UNIMINUTO, Universidad Libre
Transition to online learning by a teacher education program with limited 4IR affordances
This study used the community of inquiry (CoI) framework and the affordances of Internet of things (IoT) to explore how the faculty of education of a rural campus of a university transitioned from face-to-face to online modes of instruction. In this qualitative interpretive study, data were collected through open-ended questionnaires from four purposely selected teacher educators and five final-year bachelor of education preservice teachers. Thematic content analysis techniques were used to analyze the data collected. The findings indicated the tensions experienced by the teacher educators as they negotiated the limited IoT affordances to ensure effective teaching, cognitive, and social presence in the newly formed online classrooms. Some of the tensions included the choices that were made on whether to use synchronous or asynchronous modes of instruction and the selection of effective communication modes. The teacher educators used a combination of the official learning management system (LMS) tools of the university and a social media platform as way of navigating the limited 4IR environments experienced by the preservice teachers
Corruption and Informality: Complements or Substitutes? Qualitative Evidence from Barranquilla, Colombia
We present results of a qualitative study based on interviews with informal vendors and experts on informality carried out in Barranquilla, Colombia, in order to investigate whether corruption and informality are complements or substitutes. It was found that it is necessary to distinguish between bureaucratic and political corruption when examining the relation with informality, as the results can be opposite. In Barranquilla, bureaucratic corruption and informality seem to be substitutes, while political corruption and informality complement each other
Reterritorializing conflicting urban natures : Socio-ecological inequalities and the politics of spatial planning in Bogotá
This doctoral dissertation analyzes a set of contemporary environmental conflicts around spatial planning and urban nature in Bogotá, Colombia (1990–present day). In this research I ask what the relations are between the spatial planning processes of recent history and contemporary urban environmental conflicts. To answer this, I focus on three questions. What have the specific roles of the government authorities, civil society, and different social actors been in the processes of urban planning and environmental concerns in Bogotá in recent decades? What have the environmental and social impacts of planning policies in Bogotá’s ecosystems been during the same timeframe? How have socio-ecological inequalities in the city been linked with Bogota’s spatial planning? This dissertation therefore analyzes the dialectic between conflict and spatial planning, exploring how urban nature and spatial planning processes are a source of environmental conflict related to socio-ecological inequalities in Bogotá. In this study I scrutinize environmental conflict as a key notion for identifying more productive ways of approaching such a dialectic in the production of urban territory. Although Bogotá’s region has faced several environmental challenges and inequalities, the possibility of reimagining a more just urban nature along with the conflicts and through situated knowledge has been alive in the last three decades among different social groups in planning practices. This research is situated in the Political Ecology of Urbanization (PEU) and adopts some elements of urban environmental history, establishing a dialogue between the analysis of qualitative research material with existing information from fields such as ecology and physical geography. Therefore, this doctoral dissertation introduces a historical reconstruction about the conflicting visions around urban nature in Bogotá in the last decades. The documentation of the visions over urban nature offers an empirical basis for the design of an alternative roadmap for the understanding and management of environmental conflicts related to (spatial) planning and urban nature in the Bogotá region and beyond.Finlandi

Small Scale/Global Ambition: Strategies of Architectural Production and Global Urban Competitiveness in MedellÃn, Colombia
Globalization and the hegemony of neoliberalism has created a situation in which cities compete with other cities for business, wealthy residents, and tourism. This global urban competition spans national borders, and has exacerbated levels of inequality. Cities often employ strategies of architectural production, typically monumental, highly symbolic urban design projects to create a city image and brand that is attractive to global capital. Medellin, Colombia focused instead on building small scale, yet iconic, urban design projects in marginalized communities, primarily to reduce poverty, crime, and inequality under Mayor Sergio Fajardo (2004-2007). These projects, known as Integral Urban Projects (Proyectos Urbanos Integrales, or PUI), have raised the international profile of Medellin as a city reinventing its image using innovative strategies to raise the quality of living for its most disadvantaged citizens. Over the last ten years, however, the city’s priorities have begun to shift as it receives more international media attention and recognition. Does Medellin’s ability to leverage small-scale, peripheral strategy of architectural production represent a more egalitarian approach to attracting capital, inviting tourism, and generating influence, or do the pressures of global capitalism nullify the city’s efforts to reduce inequality
