    International audienceLe présent document contient les actes du 11ème Atelier en Évaluation des Performances qui s'est tenu les 15-17 Mars 2016 au LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse. L’Atelier en Évaluation de Performances est une réunion destinée à faire s’exprimer et se rencontrer les jeunes chercheurs (doctorants et postdoctorants) dans le domaine de la Modélisation et de l’Évaluation de Performances, une discipline consacrée à l’étude et l’optimisation de systèmes dynamiques stochastiques et/ou temporisés apparaissant en Informatique, Télécommunications, Productique et Robotique entre autres. La présentation informelle de travaux, même en cours, y est encouragée afin de renforcer les interactions entre jeunes chercheurs et préparer des soumissions de nouveaux projets scientifiques. Des exposés de synthèse sur des domaines de recherche d’actualité, donnés par des chercheurs confirmés du domaine renforcent la partie formation de l’atelier

    Modeling and analysis to improve the quality of healthcare services

    For many healthcare services or medical procedures, patients have extensive risk of complication or face death when treatment is delayed. When a queue is formed in such a situation, it is very important to assess the suffering and risk faced by patients in queue and plan sufficient medical capabilities in advance to address the concerns. As the diversity of care settings increases, congestion in facilities causes many patients to unnecessarily spend extra days in intensive care facilities. Performance evaluation of current healthcare service systems using queueing theory gains more and more importance because of patient flows and systems complexity. Queueing models have been used in handsome number of healthcare studies, but the incorporation of blocking is still limited. In this research work, we study an efficient two-stage multi-class queueing network system with blocking and phase-type service time distribution to analyze such congestion processes. We also consider parallel servers at each station and first-come-first-serve non-preemptive service discipline are used to improve the performance of healthcare service systems

    Some topics in web performance analysis

    This thesis consists of four papers on web performance analysis. In the first paper we investigate the performance of overload control through queue length for two different web server architectures. The simulation result suggests that the benefit of request prioritization is noticeable only when the capacities of the sub-systems match each other. In the second paper we present an M/G/1/K*PS queueing model of a web server. We obtain closed form expressions for web server performance metrics such as average response time, throughput and blocking probability. The model is validated through real measurements. The third paper studies a queueing system with a load balancer and a pool of identical FCFS queues in parallel. By taking the number of servers to infinite, we show that the average waiting time for the system is not always minimized by routing each customer to the expected shortest queue when the information used for decision is stale. In the last paper we consider the problem of admission control to an M/M/1 queue under periodic observations with average cost criterion. The problem is formulated as a discrete time Markov decision process whose states are fully observable. A proof of the existence of the average optimal policy by the vanishing discounted approach is provided. We also show that the optimal policy is nonincreasing with respect to the observed number of customers in the system
