    Why Does The System Usage Differ Between Organizational Units? - A Case Study In A Knowledge-Intensive Project Organization

    This paper seeks to examine how a case company exploits new staffing procedures and enterprise system (ES) functionalities in order to improve allocation and control of project resources. The paper relies on qualitative data collected through an in-depth case study in a large European high-tech company over a period of one and a half years. In order to understand the system usage in the case company the paper employs institutional theory and Orton and Weick’s concept of coupling. By combining the concept of coupling with the elements of system usage - work assignment, user, and system –, the paper explains why system usage differs between organizational units. Findings show how the use of new ES functionalities is influenced by features of organizational unit, features of work assignment, individual characteristics as well as target customer. The paper also recommends selective system use in a knowledge-intensive project organization

    The effective management of knowledge as capital is considered essential to the success of engineering product/service systems. As Knowledge Management (KM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) practice gain industrial adoption, the question of functional overlaps between both the approaches becomes evident. This article explores the interoperability between PLM and Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) as a strategy for engineering KM. The opinion of key KBE/PLM practitioners are systematically captured and analysed. A set of ranked business functionalities to be fulfiled by the KBE/PLM systems integration is elicited. The article provides insights for the researchers and the practitioners playing both the user and development roles on the future needs for knowledge systems based on PLM

The Sourcing Capability Maturity Model for service (e-SCM) is a capability model for offshore outsourcing services between clients and providers that offers appropriate strategies to enhance Cloud Computing implementation. It intends to achieve the required quality of service and develop an effective working relationship between clients and providers. Moreover, quality evaluation framework is a framework to control the quality of any product and/or process. It offers a tool support that can generate software artifacts to manage any type of product and service efficiently and effectively.     Conceptual Design and Analysis of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for Command and Control of Space Assets

    The mission-unique model that has dominated the DoD satellite Command and Control community is costly and inefficient. It requires repeatedly “reinventing” established common C2 components for each program, unnecessarily inflating budgets and delivery schedules. The effective utilization of standards is scarce, and proprietary, non-open solutions are commonplace. IT professionals have trumpeted Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) as the solution to large enterprise situations where multiple, functionally redundant but non-compatible information systems create large recurring development, test, maintenance, and tech refresh costs. This thesis describes the current state of Service Oriented Architectures as related to satellite operations and presents a functional analysis used to classify a set of generic C2 services. By assessing the candidate services’ suitability through a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis, several C2 functionalities are shown to be more ready than others to be presented as services in the short term. Lastly, key enablers are identified, pinpointing the necessary steps for a full and complete transition from the paradigm of costly mission-unique implementations to the common, interoperable, and reusable space C2 SOA called for by DoD senior leaders

    Implementing Disruptive Technologies: What Have We Learned?

    Rich research opportunities lie ahead for scholars interested in building a theory to explain why and how some organizations succeed while others fail in implementing disruptive technologies. As a complex socio-technical process, implementing disruptive technologies represents an endeavor fraught with challenges. Leaders need tools to assess whether implementing a potentially disruptive technology will succeed or fail; planners need a road map to navigate the implementation’s potential stepping-stones and stumbling blocks. Disruptive technology implementation scholarship is rich, has eclectic roots and conflicting findings, but lacks a success theory. To advance such a theory and guide scholars and practitioners, we conducted a structured and systematic literature review, and examined 139 empirical articles published between 1983 and 2020 in leading management and information systems journals. We focused our attention on answering two questions: How do incumbent organizations implement disruptive technologies successfully? How does the implementation of disruptive digital technologies differ from the implementation of other disruptive technologies? We employed a mixed-method approach using three criteria: technological category, challenges to successful implementation, and degree of implementation success. We identified strategic and technical implementation challenges, developed a technology implementation framework, and advanced propositions that together provide a current disruptive technology implementation success theory pending further testing

This research involves modeling an information system in the form of a web application for the administrative content management of a sports club, ensuring the efficient organization and availability of all its information.     Emerging Role of Enterprise System in Radical Organizational Change

    In this paper we analyze the role of Enterprise Systems (ES) in shaping a company’s transformation process by conducting an in-depth case study in a large European high-tech company. Although there are previous studies concerning organizational transformation and ES implementation process, the role of ES as an instrument for de-institutionalization is not well understood. By drawing on the framework of neo-institutional theory we seek to understand how ES facilitates discarding of the old ways of doing things and the simultaneous forming of the new institutional arrangements. This paper seeks to provide valuable insights into the de-institutionalization process and the role of ES in a company’s re-organization. The findings show how ES in use serves as an agent and a platform for de-institutionalization and later as a powerful force in forming the new institutional arrangement
